Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

today was a wounderful day. :yahoo: I went whole 12 hours without taking pain pills and in that time I was able to drive and be able to go to a sewing shop.:dancy: However tonight I am hurting. :tantrum2: I think that I made a new turn toward getting better. I'm finding that I am now going thru my sewing and trying to get it ready for sewing with friends. I have to have a quilt done by next month, hope I can get it done. It so good to wake up with a postive feeling and ready to take on the day. :doggieshmooze::yahoo:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia, how wonderful that you had a lovely day browsing your sewing shop and planning the new quilt.

You are doing so well with your computer skills, you will have to post a photo of the quilt when it is finished... love to see it :)

Keep up the fun stuff Tash :)

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

I'm glad you're feeling better! But....Tashia......what are you doing "waking up" at 1:30 in the morning???!!!! Or was that when you were heading to bed?

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

I have found my sleeping patterns are all mixed up sometime I go to bed early and wake up in early morning or I go to bed late. I have most of my life been a night person however I have stared setting a alarm at 8;30 am and getting up and starting the day. Most of time it works and some days it doesn't . My depression is getting better and I am having more positive thinking and getting back in thinking about sewing and getting a rescue dog. My apartment sometime pretty empty. I do know it would get me walking more and pacing myself better.:doggieshmooze::yahoo:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

You're right...pets are excellent to boost spirits and help with recovery.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

today I found myself sleeping almost the whole day, almost the same as yesterday. I got all the tests back from my new doctor about my stomach and all are normal. Thats great because he check me for stuff that could mean trouble. Now I stil am having trouble with my stomach and I can't fiqure out why. The last two days my knees have really been hurting and when I am in pain my stomach hurts, maybe thats it. Today I feel disapointed I sleep so long. Was hoping to get some work done and be able to drive today. I have shared this with my daughter and she remined me that it took a long time to recover from the knee replacement. what see doesn't understand I was driving a month after the knee. However I know my :friends:here understand my frustration which is so nice. Next week I see a pain speclist. I wish I could find a way to stop misspelling. oh, well thats the way it goes. Isn't great not to be perfect? Today would of be a perfact to go for a walk, Of couse knowing me I would of walked to far. I know I am really picking on myself bu that is the mood I'm in. I need to get of my chest. Now that is said I do feel better. Tomarrow I need to finish going into my home and then I will hopfurly never have to ago there again. I don't like the neighborhood. Is there any good ideas for a upset stomach other blad food. It is a beautyful day and I plan to go thru my sewing and get it ready for sewing. However I promise I will get a :sleep:if I need it. Well take care and I truely hope everyone is well. :doggieshmooze:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

tashia if you are sleeping your body is healing. Don't worry about the length of time. Your body needs sleep to recover.

Sorry about your stomach problems. Ginger ale or a cola drink can settle an upset tummy. But I am concerned you are in so much pain that it is upsetting you. Have you stopped all your pain meds?

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Jaycey, Yes I still take some. I did go to the doctor and he did check it for some problems and they all came out negative which is good. In the past five years I had loss of stress. Starting with being told I had Cancer. I was wounding talking about that. I was very ill after the surgrey and was in a coma and had no food in my stomach for a month because of me being asleep for such a long time. When I did put food in my stomach for the fist time it hurt so band I almost curled up. It was liquid, but my stomach wasn't use of working. Ever since then it doen't take much to set if off. Now i need to see what I can do with it. My right hip is doing great but not the left. I did find out that it is the muscle around the joint that is mess up so I need to work on trying to calm the muscle down. Swimming was mentioned, so I will have to pull my swimming suit, however the thought of going swimming in a outside pool in the winter is not on the top of my list of, :yahoo:lets go and do it. Well that is enough for now. Oh, there is one more thing,:feedback: I still have lots of sweats. It started after surgrey and is still happing many time a day. Is there something I can do to head it off?

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia,

Please try and be gentle with yourself. I am realizing each day that healing takes a lot of energy, time and patience. Especially since you have been through so much with your health. I have had 3 surgeries and 4 hospitalizations within the past 11 months so it is OK if I sleep a lot and nap and rest. It is frustrating at times but I know you can't rush this recovery. So, I am giving myself permission to let things go and take it easy if I need to. Life will be there waiting for us when we are 100% again (or close to it!) don't know about the sweating thing although I did also a lot early in my recovery. Some of it was a new pain med. I was on. Once I was back on hydrocodone it stopped for me.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Thanks Dianemarie, I am very impatience, however I forgot that six weeks before hip surgry I had to have my hand operated. So my body wasn't ready for another but I did what I did. Since I live by myself I need this family to tell me to ease back. I did have a physical today and I got to see my x-rays and my left knee is going have to be address in this year no dought. I have offen thought that if I would get a dog I would be more patience because they do have a very calming effect on me. Do take care and again thank you for the post.:doggieshmooze::yay:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hey Tash honey....

How is your sewing going?

Yep, gotta be kind to yourself.... Take a leaf out of my book..... if that job doesn't get done right now will it matter in 50 years time? :hysterical:

Look after yourself babe, you are doing fantastically :thumb:

And how good are you now with the computer skills. - well done :yay:

Lots of love xxx Sandy

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Sandy, thank you for saying just what I need to hear. My sewing isn't going the best but when I'm ready I will get in gear and pump the quilts out. However the thought of making aprons have really been on my mind because it would take less time and get me back into sewing. I saw a doctor today and I have mess up my muscles because i do push too hard. I have a caregiver in three times a week to help me and today She said " Sit down I'm to do this, not you." It is interesting how everyone here knows I push to much. Take care and remember to lay down when you need to. :doggieshmooze::friends::flowerysmile:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Today was a very lazy day. I found myself sleeping a lot. the last couple of nights I was wroke up with pain and had to move around to get my hips from feeling so stiff while I was waiting for the pain pills to kick in so I could get put of pain. I did see my new doctor and we talked about the amont of pain I'm still in. He thinks that it is because of the cold weather and the fact that six weeks before I have hip surgrey, I had hand surgry and with the two so close together its going to take longer time for me to heal. I was just sleeping and now fully awake so I thought I would write and say Hi to everyone. I still don't think I should be in this much pain. It not in the high points but still in the 4 or sometime 5 zone. Mostly in the left hip not the one which had the operation. The xray we enlarged and the hip does look ok but the the left knee looks real bad ( I think I said this before). I wish I had Smja attitude but with being a widow and having to do all the stuff by myself I find myself not able to take a easy as I should. the pain and medicine is wearing me down.. I need to do some heavy work but I know not to and its starting to get to me. My daughter and her husband aren't able to come and help me so I have to try ot paceing myself and do the unpacking by myself. My stomach is getting a slight better and I am now eating better. I realized I forgot to celebrate by five years of being Cancer clean and so hopfully I will do it Sunday. I still have time with BMs which really surprises me because I haven't ever had to deal with it. I hope everyone is doing better and getting further along on the road of recovery. Unfortaly I feel I have slip a little relating that but I will get better as recover does has it's up and down. Well I better sign off now. :doggieshmooze::sigh::frown:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia! I agree with your surgeon - you have been through alot. Your body needs rest. Please don't worry about sleeping during the day.

And please don't do too much unpacking at this point. You don't want to set your recovery back. Lifting, bending and twisting may cause you more pain.

A big WELL DONE on your five year anniversary. That is a huge milestone - well worth celebrating.

Tashia - although you may feel alone you are never far away from your family here at BoneSmart. We are here for you anytime!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tash

Honey, you are only six weeks and you have been through so much in that time, two lots of surgery, getting your house ready to sell, selling it, packing, sorting cleaning, time in hospital again - all while trying to recover from your THR.

I know you are alone and trying to cope with so much, but you must rest. You have been so strong all your life and survived everything that life has thrown at you, but this is your time to look after number one, yourself :)

We moved in September and have rooms still filled with unpacked boxes. We have no idea where half our stuff is, is it in this box or that. Do I need it right now or can I do without it... Our motto is WE COME FIRST.... If we don't get to do that little job today (or even tomorrow) will it matter in 50 years time?

You must be gentle on yourself, don't push so hard. Sleep... this is exactly what your body is asking for right now! It needs to recover and it is telling you to nap whenever you feel the need.

All you need to do right now, it just the essentials, the rest of life has a way of working itself out...

You have other joints that are protesting and saying to you slow down..

And you are a cancer survivor of five years, that tells me that you can survive anything that life throws at you. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS :thumb:

trust me Tash, you need to rest honey, we are all here for you. You are not alone :friends:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia,

Oh, how I wish I had a magic wand and could wave it over you to have you be gentle with yourself and just give in to the healing process. Please listen to your body and honor it...if tired sleep and rest...if feeling some energy unpack one box or one half of a box...if you feel pain, take the pain meds...sit and do nothing at all and give thanks and gratitude for your 5 years of being cancer free! You are stronger than you think or know. One thing I have learned is that you can't rush this recovery, be kind to yourself, love yourself, you are AWESOME!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

I also have kept a journal which I started about 1 month prior to my surgery of 1/18/11 and still write in it from time to time. I call it my hip journal because I only write things referring to the surgery and how I feel about it. I think the journal is also usefull if you need surgery on the other hip and will refresh your memory as to what to expect and the time frame of recovery.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia....I agree with what everyone is saying. This is a time for you to pamper yourself and only do the small things that really MUST be done. All that other stuff can wait until you are recovered and more able to handle the "heavy" chores. So....please don't feel guilty!!

And...my dear.....I notice that you now have a brand new signature! Good for you!!!! You DID IT!!!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Thank you Jamie, I really am trying to learn how to learn the computer. My daughter and her husband took to computer like fish to water but not me. With their patience I am learning. I have decided to take pain medication on a schedule to see if that controls my pain. For the last couple of nights I have been waking up in pain, in fact right now I waiting for it to take hold so I can go back to sleep.

I think I need to explain why I am so impatience with the process of healing. In 2006 I found out I had cancer. I was told it was caught in stage 1 :wow2: that's really great and when you want to find it. The surgery was to be a one night stay in the hospital and then go home and recover. Well 'the operation' was a mess. they did get the cancer but because situation beyond my control something happened and I ended having two or three more operations in order to save my life. the reason I don't know just how many surgery' I was put in a induced coma and on a breathing machine for three weeks. I have no idea what happen in that time frame.

All together a month in ICU. then another week in a another hospital room. In that room they started me walking without any aid. I couldn't believe how weak I was and how much pain I was in. When I started to walk I had to support myself which was quite a chore. I still feel that some of muscle hurt because out of that. The doctors all told me because I was at death door at least once I would take about 2 years to recover. with the help with God and my friends I was able to fully recover with some aches and pain but thats better than the other side.

Just as i was returning to normal I found my feet were really hurting. I went to the doctor and found out that a old injury had raised its ugly head. I was able to take care of it and returned to doing my traveling and started quilting. Then my knee started hurting so bad and that is were I found I needed a new knee. After the surgery I got infection in both knees which was able to be treated by pills. I waited over a year to get my hip done but my hand needed to be address because by jobs have always been very physical active and it could no longer be put off just six weeks before hip surgery. so the bottom line since 2006 have been recovering form one thing to another. I just want to return to a normal life.

During that time a pipe in my house broke and totally destroyed the inside of my house. this happened as I was waiting for knee surgry. I lost a lot of things including the whole kitchen, bathroom and every wall had to have parts of them had to be removed. What a mess. With God's help I was able to put my whole inside back together with the help of my house insurance. But it was very stressful. to be very honest to sell my house and get rid of that place was a wounderful feeling. the people that bought it got an all new inside. the one thing i found interesting was how the house looked ater I finished it. Since I didn't have anyone to ask do you like this or not, I chose all the kitchen and bathroom by myself.

I had lived back east and loved the design or at least i thought so, as my house was coming back together i realized it was completely a different direction I had never thought about. the inside of my house could be in Italy and fit right in. Boy was I surprised. Now that I live in a apartment I am wondering how this is going to turn out when I can decorate it just to see what design I chose this time. In fact I reallly enjoyed redoing my whole house with just me. Boy did I find out that I really like to be relaxed setting. So to say the least I am tired of being under the knife and having to take time recovering.

I hope I made sense because this is the first time I have told my story. I guess it time to share it so I can move on. When i hit 60 I never thought my next five years would be like this. but we all have hills to climb and What i need to do is as I get to the top of the hills I need to stop and look at the beauty of life and the beauty of Mother Nature most of all take a time and just take lots of rest and really realize no matter what happens you can get thru it. Thank you for letting me get this off my chest. Everyone take care. We can make it no matter what. And for me to take medicine if I need it. :doggieshmooze::yay::yahoo::And if I can i will take lots of :bathtub:and just enjoy life.
