Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Well I can't believe it I fell. I caught my foot on my slacks that are two big but are warm. Well I don't think anything got hurt but my pride. As for the slacks they are now in the trash. :doggieshmooze::hairpulling:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia

Sorry to hear about falling, it is so easy to do...

Rest, ice and elevate for a day just to be sure and don't forget the pain Meds :)

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Here I am caught up in fear. The fall really scared me.

I 'm tender in the hips and knees. I have been lucky to a person who doesn't fall much and when I do I don't accept it well.

I have found that putting ice on me hurts the area more that it helps so is there any subjection on what I can use? I definitely need to get a doctor who is available and yes many of you have memtioned but I am a creature of habit and don't like change in certain parts of my life and that is getting new doctors.

I do know this everyone here I feel is in my family and I can talk to you whenever I need you. The surport is so great and I wish I had found you sooner however because the computer is something I didn't use much I am getting more and more at ease with it everytime I use it. By the way my daughter and her husband are so pleased that I am finally using it. My daughter the first time she use a computer she took to it like fish does to swimming in water. I have decided to try to find a site like this for cancer if there is one. Hearing that you can make it give lots of hope to one who is first dealing with it. I do know this is my home and I will keep posting whenever I need to or want to. Everyone take care. :doggieshmooze::doggieshmooze::doggieshmooze::doggieshmooze::doggieshmooze:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

tashia, the first time you fall is always scary! I remember my first fall post THR very well. Actually I passed out and sat down very hard on a tile floor. I was VERY sore - everything hurt for days.

The good news is you will recover very quickly. Are you wrapping your ice pack in a towel before applying it. Try two towels if you are very sensitive. Ice will decrease any swelling.

Are you taking anything for pain? You might need something to help you recover from the fall. Just over the counter if you need it.

We are here for you tashia - anytime!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Then don't use ice! It really doesn't matter - you try something, it doesn't work, move on. Fact is, a fall does more than bruise you, it jars your whole body and that can make you ache all over for days. That you're hurting is to be expected and doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your hip. In fact I can promise you there is not. Just rest, relax and try to stay calm. Give yourself some time to get over the shock of the fall. You will be fine. Absolutely fine.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia
I'm not driving yet either. It will make such a difference but I did try on the weekend. I struggled to even get in the driving seat and when I was there my foot just wouldn't go where I wanted it too. My husband took over and as we drove up the lane a driver came speeding down the other way. Had I managed to get going I'm not sure if my reactions would have been quick enough to avoid the speeding car!! I find it hard that my husband is even more frustrated than me by my inability to drive. He feels that I am imposing on people as I need help getting the children home from school. I am finding it hard to convince him that if I was up to driving I would actually be doing it. It does all take time and for safety we have to be really ready. I've had people suggest I get an automatic. I wish I had a crystal ball so I could tell how long it will be. It seems a bit early to be making that decision as I like my car and don't really want a change yet unless I have to.
All the best and a Happy New Year - this is the year our hips will go from strength to strength instead of deteoriating.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

(((Tashia))) I hope you are feeling better today from your fall! As the others have said - do what feels best - get some extra rest - and keep your chin up :)

As for the computer - I can relate - when I had to learn to use a Windows based program for my job (about 12 years ago) we started learning it in a computer lab. The instructor's first words were "right click on the mouse". My hand went up with the question - "What's a mouse?" ....... :hysterical: The more you use your computer the easier it will become! There are also many tutorial programs available (and might be built into your operating system - ask some one who knows computers to help you find it) that will show you how to do some of the basic things.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia, so sorry about your fall. I agree with Deb...get some extra naps and rest and I think that will help you feel better. Also...take something for the pain. It's only for a short time.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hang in here Tashia, and as everyone has said, just rest and take it easy.

As far as your new found computer skills, I think you are doing fantastic. - good for you :thumb: it will get easier and easier the more you use it.

It is great to see your posts and we love having you as part of the world wide web of friends here on BS :yes 4: :friends:

Lot of love xx

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia!
Hope you're feeling a whole lot better by now. And like all others have said, feeling 'blue' is just part of the process and normal. It's easier if you welcome it and embrace it as part of the healing process. The roller coaster will level out, promise! All the best to you.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia

So sorry you ended up in hospital, but probably the enforced rest did you some good, you have had so much on your plate the past few months.

Be kind to yourself and rest more, lots of love xx

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Since I got out of the hospital I have been having a lot of stomach problems. Just before my hip surgry I lost my doctor of over 25 years and been trying to find a new one I liked. Well today I think I found him and so now my stomach iissure can be address. Now if I could stop misspelling I would have it made!
As day go by I am finding places I hurt when I fell but so far no serious injuries. My left knee was hurt the worse of course this knee needs to be replaced but haven't gotten around to address it yet because I think I will have a different doctor do it. So as I to know my new doctor I will have him refer me to a new one to interview him to see which one do I want to do the hip and knee on my left side. Also i am next week going to a pain clinic for pain to see what other choices I have other than pain pills. I'm so sick of taking them. I don't like the side effects like not driving while they are in my system. Everyone take care while we all traveling on our getting well and taking on our everyday problems. My feeling of sad is slowly leaving me:yahoo::yay::doggieshmooze:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia-I do think that just being able to come to a site like this and know that everyone here has some idea of what we are going through helps on difficult days. I guess some days are going to be tough and we can't really escape it. I find its not even about what is actually happening as some days I cope with things better than others. Some days I just feel really sensitive from the start. Always though coming here helps. I am really happy that you are not feeling so sad. Just remember there are lots of even better days ahead. :cat-kittyandsmiley:
All the best Gizmo

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hello and welcome.
I had my hip done on the same date 2010! What you are experiencing is normal, please don't be sad.
It takes a while to completely heal and you'll have ups and downs along the way.
But when all is said and done, you will be so happy you had the surgery.
Patience is the key, you will heal and be back to a better life. Hang in there girl, it does get better.:thumb:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hey Gideon

Nice to hear from you... Remember me, I was part of the Octoer Feisties and got cancelled... Bit eventually talked my way into the November Nimbles.. :)

Yes, post op blues are an ongoing issue, it pops up when we least expect it, often not associated with the THR but more likely with our other life issues.... Like for me at the moment, going back to work next week.... Grrrrr!!!

Lovely to hear from you xx
