THR Tashia's Hip is in Recovery, WOW!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

In a few minutes I am going to take a short ride. I'll probly get me a hamburger, just to see if the world still out there. What I do when I'm behind the wheel I drive around the block to see if my driving is up to my satifaction if not I turn around and come home. I have a big parking lot close by so i can test myself without going of the road. Well I will get back to you tonight and hopefully I wil have my unhealtly food. Haven't one in ages so why not. Oh I just remember I have a movie waiting for me to pick up so maybe I will have that too. Everyone take care. Tashia:doggieshmooze::yahoo:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Got back and got the hamburger. It was horrible I have been eating very good since the surgry not junk food and my tast buds Have changed very much. Good think I got a senior discount for the food. But for driving it was GREAT. I was very surprised how much I enjoyed it. I did find myself a little nerves which is so surprising. I think since the surgrey i have driven maybe five times since September. The drive was very short but did feel good like I'm getting back to normal. Will be very careful and not do it every day unless I feel very alert and physical able to drive. But :yes 4::yahoo::egypt-dance: Made my mood better. I just though of something because I live close to a big parking lot I could go there every day and get my skills up. After all i am now able to use the computer better than I every dream of so there is hope for me yet. Everyone take care do remember that if i can make it so can you. Even is some days are :hairpulling: Tashia:doggieshmooze::yes 4::flowerysmile:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia
I am so glad you got out and enjoyed it. I can imagine that after not eating a hamburger for a while would taste different. I hope you keep enjoying your driving and getting out.
I also drove yesterday the first time since my surgery. My grandson came along in case my energy level was not up to it. It was great to get out and see that there is a world out there.

Way to go Tashia! So glad you got out and about. Easy does it and drive safe!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hiya Tash, that is fantastic that you got out into the world. So thrilled for you that the driving wasn't too bad. Sorry about the hamburger... but on the other hand, I am pleased that you feel you are eating better. Good nutrition is so important to your healing.. Have you read Jo's latest entry in the library about the 5 'P''s - very good....

Lots of love, Sandy xx

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Haven't read the entry in the library about the 5 "P"s yet but i will soon.I have been in the library and read many articles. I know realize I really didn't give my knee a chance to heal before I was off to the races. No wonder its been a pain with my hip. the hip has been treated much better. Now to be kind to both knee and hip need tender loving care. I'm so lucky that the pain pills work because of all the not being taken care of. With my knee I started driving at barley 4 weeks. Then only six months later went on trip where I had to drive in the many hours without taking a break. :arghh: Now I understand while it taking so long. Come to think it hasn't been that long since the hip just a little over four months. It hasn't been 2 years yet and I have had a knee replacement, hand surgrey and a hip replacement. Well I have been put in my place. I just need lots of patience and that has never been my strong point so please bear with me. :th_heehee: Well if I get out of line everyone remind me so i can get back on my feet when I'm surpose to not on my time. Thats sad but it true. So if new people are reading this please do not do what I did. Its not worth it.
thank you for all your support and for helping me stay positive and that goes for everyone else. Take care and keep us posted on you success . I need to read it. Tashia:doggieshmooze::yes 4:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

I just got in touch with what been bugging me. I have been having caretakers come in three times a week to help me and i have been feeling guilty about it. Isn't that stupid? As i was writing about the operations in less than two years I now remember a pipe broke in my house, had to redue the whole house, put it up for sale and move. :rolleyespink: No wonder I'm so tired. I now got it. Thank you for listing to me, I needed to see all this to remind me I have been thru a lot and still climbing my hills, however this one will be done by my body telling me when to climb and when to rest. And for the caregivers they are staying to help me, they are worth it in every since of the way. Boy I can''t belive it took me so long to realize whats going on with me. I don't know what I would do without you except still being hard on myself and making my recover even worse. Thank You so much. Tashia. :doggieshmooze::yes 4:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

((((Tashia)))) Major break through there! Congratulations on your new understanding of what's been bugging you! As I was reading your thread I was amazed at all you've been through in just a short amount of time! And i was getting tired just reading about it :th_heehee: Also as you are about my age I'll tell you that these getting older bods of ours do not bounce back as quickly as they did when we were younger ..... plus there is all the emotional and mental stress and strain of going through surgeries, moving, dealing with all the many many problems and frustrations that come along with even one of those things!

I know what you mean about feeling guilty about needing and accepting help from others - it is really hard to admit when you need help - one of my neighbors put it into perspective for me though - she said she loved helping other folks and felt that she was filling her "karma bank" in case she herself ever needed help. I saw this with my own folks who were dedicated helpers just because they liked doing so .... and when they needed help from their small community WOW the out pouring of love and help was awe inspiring!

I have a house cleaner who comes once a week - she has been a true life saver for me! At first I felt guilty about needing her help and not being able to do my own chores - but now I see I am also helping her - she's a single Mom of two kids and this is how she earns her living. And she is great at it! She also has been willing to just be here with me while I try out new things - like taking first shower by myself - lol I did not need assistance with it but it sure felt good to know there was a woman in the house who could and would help if i needed it.

So relax and enjoy the help you have - it is a two way street - you really are helping them just as they are helping you!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

I had a new hip on the 13th of september and still having to use a cane and pain pills.. i still don't feel safe to drive. getting very sad.
Sorry to hear you are feeling bad. I had my THR on Oct 27'11 and I'm 61, so I'm real close to you. I had a setback this month due to my PTist's aggressive regime. Can hardly walk! I really want to feel sorry for myself but I just look at a pix of my granddaughter - playing with her is my motivation to go on. Find your motivation. Could it be shopping for quilt supplies :-) ?

CAUTION WITH EXERCISE: If you feel ANY pain STOP, and try again the next day!

SLEEP WITH A PILLOW between your legs. I still do!

Have you discovered: www.YouTube.com yet? GREAT place to visit and SEE how the exercises are supposed to be done. Just type in the SEARCH area: THR Exercises.
Be sure you only do the ones that say they are for Hip Replacement or THR.

On non-Rx drugs, I tried regular aspirin, Tyl Arth, Advil, Ibu's, both generic and branded. I found 2 BUFFERIN in the morning with a full glass of water was the only thing that helped me when I had post-op pain. Lasted most of the day. Eat first to save your tummy.

Give it time. Take it easy. And keep coming back. It WILL get better, it really will!

EARLY POST-OP: No one seems to talk about this. When you are still practicing precautions, you can bend from the waist if you put the operated leg to the BACK, [bend like you are a ballerina]. You don't have to lift the bad leg off the floor, just put it to the back being conscious of your 90o. You will be able to do far more without danger. This was the single most exciting thing I learned. 3 weeks post op. I was able to load the dryer!
> Josephine: Your blessing on this please.
Or, call your Dr for his OK first.
:-)

This is called the Golfer's Reach. There is an article here about it, along with a more detailed discussion of dislocation risk after THR, in the Library.

Actually, there are lots of great articles about joint replacement in the Library and I'd highly recommend checking them out if you get a chance. :thumb:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Well another day closer to being there back to normal. I feel stiff a storm must be coming, Thant is the weather forcast for my area. :th_heehee: I know my body is trying but going very slowly. I'm trying to stay postive, I have been trying to get sewing but most of shops are further than I can drive. Now I want to get this straight When i take my meds every eight hours i stay pretty much pain free so i am doing ok in that field. When I first wake up from naps I feel down, I have a cry then attend to business of healing and do hope to go for a very small ride. I will call a dial a ride and make arrangement for Monday to take me to a sewing place to sew. I must get out more and be around people even just for a hour. Take care Tashia:doggieshmooze::yes 4:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia -you do sound happier and more positive now. You have achieved so much and should be really proud of yourself. I am feeling happier too now that I can be out and about more.:friends:
Best wishes
Gizmo

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Gizmo, I have had my ride and was able to go to one of the sewing stores. At first I was not greeded but later they started to talk to me. I really realized how much I lost interest in sewing. I liked the company but I not sure I want to sew. In fact I almost put up one of my sewing machine up for sale. I just don't have the energy to take anything on, I want to sit and watch someone else sewing. I have had this before and in time it passed and the next thing I knew my sewing machine was hummy and putting out products. Gizmo take care and let's keep getting out so we can be more positive. Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tash

Sorry your tum is playing up tonight, can you eat fruit or alkaline veggies.. Have another look at the Nutrition Discussion read for ideas..

You know honey, you have come such a long way, you just can't see it yourself, but we can - you are our little shiny star :)

Lots of love
Sandy xx

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

thank you for telling me about fruit and veggies. I'n not sure what you call alkaline veggies. I love raw fruit, in fact it calmed it down. I had gotten upset about something, now I now say it wasn't worth it. But feeling are feeling , they aren't right or wrong, they just are. Now I'm better. You are so sweat. You always have something to say. Now I do know you have had a hard time climbing your hill, you took it on and I hope you are enjoying your view from the top. It must be wounderful but be careful not to slip off. Take care my friend. Tashia:friends::yes 4:
