THR Tashia's Hip is in Recovery, WOW!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Jamie, I didn't know that pain pills last about 4 hours. That information is so important to me if I had only known. Now that I had my good cry I could of gone for a short ride and then come home and take the medicine. I feel so stupid I should of known that. I'm still crying about so I'll talk to you later. Tashia:cry::doggieshmooze::arghh:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Aw Tashia, please don't feel discouraged. This is actually good news. Your doctor acknowledges the pain is the first issue to get under control. Once you do that you will be ready for more - like PT.

Take care Tashia! I know it's a slow process but you are getting there!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Jaycey, What I mean is My sewing group is very close to where I live and I could of let the pills off and still be ok to drive, then take one when i got there because it was over five hours there and I could of been around people. Almost all this time I have been totally isolated because I thought the drug was still in me pass five hours. You have not idea how lonely I've been. Thats why the tears. I haven't been hardly anywhere since since the operation. Tahsia:doggieshmooze:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Today is a cold day but a very sunny one. I do hope to get out and drive since I now know about the life of pain pills. Hopefully I will be able to attend a sewing group tonight. I need to get out. Where I live if you don't drive you don't do much. Yes I can walk which I have been doing but not being able just to go out for lunch to change pace. Everyone to take care and remember at the end of the rainbow is freedom from pain and a brand new hip that works better the old one. :doggieshmooze::hapydancsmil::flowerysmile:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia, I am glad to hear that you will be starting to get out more. It will make you feel so much better. I know hopw it feels, I live way out of town and without driving it is impossible to see people. The world will be opening up again for you.
Bea.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Drive safe Tashia! Enjoy your day out!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia, you've rather over interpreted what Jamie said - most pain pills only work on the pain for about 4 hours. They stay in your system for longer than that - probably about 5-6 hours, sometimes even longer with strong narcotics.

It's like alcohol. You can have a few drinks one evening and still be unfit to drive the next morning.

But another however is that, you having been taking them all this time means you have a certain acclimatization to them so would most likely be okay with your plan to only take a pill when you get home from your sewing circle. You're not going to do that every day, are you? So you could easily manage it once in a while. Just be very careful how you drive.

Enjoy your outings!

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia,
I am so pleased that you can get out again sometimes now. It will help. I have just sold my manual car and bought an automatic. My ability to drive just seemed to be so far off, the muscles weren't strong enough. I live in the country with no buses so have been stuck at home. It will help to keep your spirits up. What sort of things do you sew?
Best wishes

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

I'm having a very hard time getting started with doing a quilt. I'm finding that by the time I come home for the doctor app which I had today I felt so tired I came home and feel asleep. i ended up sleep over 4 hours. Then got hit with the blues. Had a good cay and now I have to say I'm still down.:doggieshmooze::gaah:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Sleeping is the best thing you can do Tash when you feel tired after activity.. there you go honey, doing well to listen to the needs of your body - good for you.

The blues will pass when the other aspects of your life sorts out. Thanks for the email xx

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Gizmo , I use to make clothes however haven't in years. now I make pillow cases for homeless boys and girls. My quilts i design and make are for the homeless, very sick mostly cancer and for the Army and Marines returning with wounds. In fact i am surpose to be designing one now and making it but I just can't get going with it. i guess my need to get out of the blues is getting in the way of being creative. I never expected that recovery would take this long or be so emotional draining. Tashia:doggieshmooze::sigh:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Hi Tashia,

If you check out my thread you will see the recipe for coconut candy that Sandy posted. Not only will it be delicious, it is healthy too. (if you don't eat the whole pan, haha!) Hope you are feeling better and can start quilting soon. I'm sure they are beautiful and the people are very lucky to get them. I'll be watching figure skating on tv, one of my favorite pasttimes.

Tash...

Try to stay positive. Keep trying to think of things you can use as a distraction.

Keep in touch.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia.....I know recovery can be tough sometimes. You are doing well just taking things one day at a time. That's the best thing to do!!

I like that you're finding things to keep your mind off your recovery....skating is great! Don't be too concerned about the tiredness sometimes. You can have bouts of that for quite a while. It just means your body is still healing and needs the rest. Embrace the nap!!!!:sleepz:

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Jamie, the weak pill had side effects concern me. It works at night but during the day it causes me to panic. I will have to call the doctor Monday. Being tired I can accept but not the panic attack. I might 1 strong one every four hours instead two every 8 hours till I talk to my doctor and forget the other meds unless it needed at night. I/m trying to stay positive but I don't have one room the way I want it. Every room has boxes and I feel so disorgaized. I found that the apartment that I moved into is awful dark during the day and with the boxes it makes me feel depressed. I have three quilts that need to be given away and I/m not able because of me not driving. They need to be washed before they are given away and becasue of there size i need to go the laundrey mat to wash. I do know that there are people are having harder time than me and I want to get to them but I can't. it makes me feel so good see their faces when they receive them. In February I start my pain classes I will try to share what I learned with you all because I feel we are all on the same planet and and sharing success is so important. I can hardly wait to read the recept i can make some. Question when any of you eat lots of sweets does it make you feel down? Everytime I get into sugar I feel down. I still plan to make the receipt because I'm use to love to cook. Maybe it will bring back the pleasure It use to make me. Well I am just rambling so I'll sign off. Everyone please take care and be greatfull that science has given a new lease on life and that is to live pain free and be able to do things we love to do without pain. I used to love baking too. My LTHR was a little over a year ago, and last night I baked my first cake since the surgery. It was a cranbery coffee cake and had a lot of steps in it. When I was done I was happy that I'm finding myself again. Also the cake came out really good. I think the blues are a big part of the post surgery process. Try and be patient, you'll get your life back again sooner than you think.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Tashia, here's a big (((((((((hug))))))))) for you! Hang in the won't you? Step by step. It's very hard to do anything when you are fighting the pain and the meds. Just rest when you need it. As Jamie says - you are still healing.

To your question about sugar and feeling down. I have always has that problem. I get low blood sugar which can bring on big time depression. You might want to ask your doctor about this. Since you were not eating right for awhile you may need some suppliments.

Re: New hip 13 September - feeling sad

Jaycey,, :goodpost: that you for the hug and telling me about how sugar effects you. The doctor has ordered a blood test and I am having trouble fasting because of my stomach. He has made a note and all I have to do is eight hours which I think I can handle. Last night I did lot of thinking on what is going on and not only with recover I have other stuff on the plate. So I decided I word make a list in the order and what is on the bottom is to put one level up each day if doesn't get done. when feeling down get on line and post of just read how everyone is doing. Everyone take care and remember everyone on this site does care about you all throughout the world. tashia:flowerysmile::doggieshmooze::yes 4:
