Revision TKR Story of My Knees by RestAssured: Pt 3

Thank you, thank thank you! You are an honorary member just because you were so thoughtful! :happydance:[/quotefor

Thank you for making me a 'honorary member' I feel so humbled...:):heehee:

Thought you would like it.....its soooooooo shiny and new....like most of our knees, hahahaha!

Now, now..now that a fellow Canuck has found THE gavel (thanks MeT) you MUST keep up your positive attitude (and this from downer me..) Seriously, I don't understand why he thinks another surgery may be necessary...'splain please...

Randi, this has been something I knew was a possibility from when I forgot to use my walker in my room at rehab. The nurse and I both heard a loud "pop", and pain started getting worse. I saw Dr. Maale the next day, and he said he was afraid that I had popped the stitches loose to the patellar tendon he shortened. He told me that he would not do surgery immediately, opting instead for the immobilizer. That went pretty well, so he released me for three months. "Capsie" has been moving to the outside of the knee more and more frequently. We thought that strengthening the inside muscle that he did the lateral release on would take of the problem. It is getting stronger, but the kneecap is still trying to move, and Dr. Maale told my PT Katie to strengthen it as much as possible until I see him September 20th. We will have a verdict of if I need more surgery or not by then. I hope you get to feeling better! Know that I am praying for you! :happydance:

Here's hoping for no additional surgery, but if it needs to happen, at least you know exactly what you're dealing with!

Be well,

Dawn

Well, i did have something positive happen yesterday that I forgot about! :) Katie took away one crutch and said that the leg is getting a lot stronger! :happydance: I looked up patella tendon tear last night and itdoesn't fit my problem. It is still going back to the muscle on the inside being weak, so I have a c-brace I wear during workouts, to keep "Capsie" I place! I was so exhausted yesterday, but today is a new day and I am ready to whip out my thesis papers, write my artifact that is due on Friday. And the throw a party! :happydance:

^good. Sometimes you just need a day "off."

The polyps are caused in large part to heredity. My grandfather, father, uncle, 2 aunts have all had cancer, so my doctor has already been keeping an eye on me.

My sister has had polyps removed also. We just have to be vigilant,

My knee is doing well. If I could get the darned kneecap, more affectionately known as "Capsie" to cooperate, I wouldbe great! :happydance:
Great that they are keeping an eye on the polyps. Hope you can get that knee cap fixed. My recovery seems to mirror yours somewhat. Hope I can hold up half as well as you have.
Your attitude is great. Hoping you can get that knee cap figured out.

Vicki,

Thanks for the encouragement! I don't know what is going to happen with the knee yet, but I do know that Dr. Maale extended PT until I see him Sept 20 th. I am praying that strengthening the muscle on the side is all that is needed. I know this sounds crazy but, I really don't want any more surgery! People probably think to themselves, well who would, well I really DON'T. Three times on the same knee has been hard on me, my husband, and the people around me. I try to remain upbeat, but sometimes no one around me understands. My husband told me last night that if I have to go through surgery it's because of my hardheadedness! Well heis right, but right now I need support, not frustration over what happened in May. :gaah:

Sonja, you have a month plus to get this muscle to strengthen. I know your determination and the skill of Killer Kathie will get it there! Hope that it gets the message and there's no need for surgery.

Oh, me too Pooshay! The only problem Dr. Maale is worried about was the long sutures that came out soon after the knee popped! He doesn't think it is tacked down on the inside anymore. I feel the muscle getting stronger, but unless I use the c-strap brace in PT the knee shoots to the outside. Sometimes the little darn does it even with the brace on! It is very tricky you know!

I haven't even started PT since revision. I have had to keep my knee straight. No clue what I am going to have to deal with. But I know exactly what you mean about 3 surgeries. I have had 3 since June 5 and know I at least one more to take cable out of patella. Now I am dealing with major antibiotics and they are taking a toll on my body. My issues go back to me being hardheaded too. Decided to take myself to bathroom with nerve block in and had to walk accross room to get walker. Guess we are paying the price. Of course my husband is paying the price too.
Sounds like the muscle on the side should be your answer. Hope so!
