THR Spring is right around the corner

I don't think any of us can tell you whether you'll be able to make the trip or not and its hard for you to know at this point. Make plans to go but Be prepared to be flexible while on the trip or cancel if you need to. You'll need more time for the trip to allow you to get out and stretch every hour or so. Have plans for times you can rest (especially on travel days) and consider a scooter if you think the walking would be too much. You've just started being able to weight bear but you'll be surprised how much you progress in the next month.

I think it's great you're an optimist. And all may work out perfectly.
You just need to take a lot into consideration and plan accordingly.
You still have time....

@hipster333, I am sort of paying today. Saw the doctor on the first of March and I guess in my warped way of thinking (I am NOT one who sits well) he was saying I was healed. Oops. So that day after my appointment I went to lunch and dinner, two days later went to the play, next day had grandkids all day took a day off and then yesterday volunteered all morning. Well...@layla and all our other senior members keep reminding me I have a longer healing ahead and today I am back in my yoga pants and T-shirt. I have slept all day. :dubious:Some of us have to learn the hard way

Most all hit the ODIC at some point
(OverDid It Club)
I did it from time to time....(still do)
Glad you are resting!
Coming up on two months...still early days.
Hope you have a peaceful evening!

@Walkinginthesand you sound like you'll probably be right back at it tomorrow. :heehee: Make sure to take time to rest. I hate sitting still too. but can't bring myself to do all of the outings yet. I can't believe you had the grandkids all day! Wow--brave woman!:angel:How old are your grandkids?

The two that were here are 3 and 7. Their mama was here too @hipster333 so it was easy. The 7 year old loves to watch cowboy movies with papa so they went into the living room with popcorn! So I really had only one to play with. They will be with us this weekend. Their dad is a music professor at Johnson county community college and they have a party to attend. Ryan is also a jazz musician here in KC and has a big gig molly wants to attend. So we get them again. It’s fun.

@Walkinginthesand JUNKSTOCK sounds fantastic! That is my favorite type of shopping! My suggestion is to be upfront with your friends about the possibility of you needing to rest through out the day or maybe end the day earlier than them. I'm sure they would understand. I also would take one of those old fashion ice packs and ask one of the vendors fill it up with ice if you need it. I do that when I travel. Have a good evening!

Whew! I have been walking with a cane now and my knees hurt, thighs too. Total knee replacements. My leg was 1/2” short and doctor made them equal now. Is pain from everything adjusting? Wow. I don’t have enough ice packs. @Layla @Mascaramom @AgilityDog @Poodles @SaraK @MammaT @Pumpkln ??!?? I am just sitting today but feel I need to walk it out. I am going to call OS tomorrow just to make sure.

You're using those muscles differently now so I would expect that you'd be sore. Any change in your gait - even for the better is going to take some adjustment. Even just moving to the cane changes how you stand and move. When you transition off the cane, there will be more adjustments again. All normal and all just a sign that you're moving towards your new normal. Eventually it all settles.

I agree with @SaraK, as we use the different muscles we get soreness. It’s been a while since I walked correctly so it is a learning process.

I have found even more of the stuff working out as I am walking with no assistive devices. I still focus on correct walking, but the twinges and soreness is really lessening. Still ice after long walk or bike session.

Everyone’s stuff settles at their own pace.

Hi @Walkinginthesand
Let us know what your OS says if you call.
I think you're waking up sleepy muscles as your gait changes once again.
Think of the ways you were compensating pre- op.
Try to concentrate on heel-toe walking as you're moving about. Heel strikes ground first, followed by toes.
A great weekend to you!

@Walkinginthesand time to buy more ice packs! Those darn muscles don't know what to do with all of the changes we put them through. :boohoo:3 and 7--what fun ages! I miss that! Glad to hear that those extra 3 weeks make such a difference. This morning I don't even want to get out of bed!

@Walkinginthesand My OS, on Monday, suggested that I was walking more correctly now and am irritating muscles that were slacking off in the past. My thigh on the right side (along with sometimes my knee) feel like traitors to the rest of my recovery! I get muscle spasms and am grateful for muscle relaxers. I take one or sometimes two a day. One in the morning for a relatively pain-free day and sometimes at night when my thigh gets grumpy.

I know I was walking funny from the way my shoe was wearing. I got new Vionic walking shoes and I have noticed a difference walking with them vs barefoot (or slippers) around the house. I want to wear the shoes all the time. Also like @Layla said heel-toe. Heel-toe. It's my mantra even if I walk across the office to get coffee.

My OS is sympathetic to pain. However, she suggested walking versus PT at least for me. I feel like such a slug when walking.

My OS said exactly what you all have said! Much better this morning after ice all evening and some heat on others. Plus a nights sleep under the covers. I knew my gait felt different but yesterday my muscles and knees TOLD me how different. It’s nice to have all you guys to just reassure all of us we are not messing up, we are getting better!

@Poodles my surgeon told me to get rid of all my shoes and start over. My walk has been so off he doesn’t want the wear on my shoes to influence my new strut. Yeshad on a new pair I bought before surgery. I have worn slippers around the house. Wonder if muscles complained with the new shoes???
