THR Spring is right around the corner

HIP HIP HOORAY!! Six week check up today. Everything healing nicely. I am to simply “push” my walker for a week and focus on correct walking. Been walking do wonky for so long. After that, I can use my cane. I purchased my cane long ago at a bumbershute (sp) store in london. Then I will be free!!! Just pushing the walker was so much fun. Met friends for a celebratory lunch then up to daughter’s for dinner. Oops- my legs hurt now. Ice ice baby :ice:
And happy I can now just push and focus on heel-toe. :fingersx: Let’s go hippies!!!!

:egypdance:Onward and upward...you're doing great.
Hope your weekend is sweet!

Fantastic news! You'll find that muscle soreness is nothing like that old hip pain. For one thing, it responds to ice and meds. For another, it goes away!

Great update! @Walkinginthesand
Push, push, no leaning :yes!:
You'll be on that cane in no time :yay:
I'll bet the lunch with friends and dinner with daughter made your day.
Hope your weekend is wonderful!

First major outing! Went to see the musical “Finding Neverland”. Everything I worried about DID NOT happen. We used valet parking, they stored my walker and I used cane to our seats. Play was outstanding and the grandson of a friend played the role of Peter. I am exhausted and icing but what a marvelous day!!!!! Life DOES get back to normal. :dancy:

So nice to get back to life!
Glad you are doing well.:yahoo:

Hi @Walkinginthesand
It sounds like you had a wonderful day yesterday! I'm sorry you're suffering today.
I'll bet with your game plan of rest and ice you'll bounce back quickly.
Six weeks post op is still early recovery in the entire scheme of things.
Sneak some naps in and take it easy today for sure.
Best wishes for a peaceful relaxing week!

@Layla my hip feels so tired today. More likely the muscles I haven’t used for a long time. Very wobbly walking. Glad to have my walker for support. I get up walking solid and sure and then I wear out and walk isn’t sure footed as the day wears on. Is this how most feel at early stages?

Hi @Walkinginthesand
At just a little over 6 weeks you are still in early recovery. There is an awful lot of healing happening.
Your leg was traumatized. Sawing, drilling, hammering all underneath an incision into your flesh.
It's going to take time. In some instances I've read it can take a full year.
Do you feel you are continually making progress?

If the way you're feeling today is ongoing you may consider calling your OS to adjust meds...if you're still taking them. I would continue icing and resting when you're able. You had two big outings within days of each other on Thursday and Saturday. Possibly it was too much in a short span of time?

Read this article and see if you feel it applies at all...

Give it a few days of some dedicated rest and see if it improves.
Feel better soon and have a relaxing week!

I get wobbly towards the end of the day. While I am working on walking without assistance, I keep cane handy and use it especially later in day. I get sloppy in my walk when I get tired.

Layla is right, healing does take time. My left hip was still improving at the year and a half mark when I got my right down. Outings take a lot out of us. Hope with rest today you feel better tomorrow @Walkinginthesand.

I have just sat most of the day with ice. I do have a question I could use help with- never been in this “healing” situation before. My girls and I have a tradition of going to a HUGE outside flea market type thing every year in Omaha called JUNKSTOCK. it’s the first of April and I will be almost 3 months out of surgery. I just realized, sc we were texting, I probably won’t be able to do all that walking. Thoughts???

Oh @Mascaramom JUNKSTOCK is so fun. A farmer opens his land to alllllll these sellers. The booths are shabby chic, antiques, candles, bottles-you name it! You walk for hours. Sit and have lunch at food trucks. We take my husbands big truck because my girls houses are all shabby chic. We spend the night and laugh the entire time. I want to go but those girls move FAST. A man I stood and talked to bought an original cigar store Indian. :wow: So cool.

Hi @Walkinginthesand
I'm not trying to discourage you...only suggesting some things you need to take into consideration. You'll be the best judge as to whether you can handle the event once it gets closer to the actual date.

If it's as large an event as you've described, I imagine there will be rest / refreshment areas where you could sit to take breaks, or wait for your daughters if you become too fatigued. You will need to take into consideration a car ride of any length and the distance of the walk from the car, into the venue.
I'm guessing you'll feel a lot stronger a month from now but only you will be able to decide whether you can handle any / all activity involved. I'm sure when the time comes you'll make the right decision.

Best wishes for a great week as you continue healing!

@Layla i so appreciate your suggestions. The venue is huge
A farmer opens his land to all kinds of dealers. Shabby chic, antiques, fabric goods, you name it. The terrain is farm land and right now the walk makes me nervous. I will wait and see. Don’t want to miss out on fun or let my girls down:giggle:.

You do need to consider the terrain. If it's a farmers land, we're not talking asphalt or concrete but unlevel ground.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but hate to see you stuck in a situation
where your girls are disappointed or you feel like you're holding them up etc.
If you spend a night in a hotel, is the hotel too far from the venue to drop you off there should you decide you've reached your limit at the flea market? Then allowing your daughters to go back until they've had their fill while you rest?

Where there's a will there's a way. If you put your heads together I'll bet you could come up with a plan that works for all.....
