THR Spring is right around the corner

Mireille, Mascaramom, Jaycey and mojo333. These are all the words of wisdom I need. I want to be prepared!

Mascaramom I realize these are muscles I have “protected” and they will have to be worked. Did your hip break down/ act up over a quick period of time? You mentioned 7 months. Mine went haywire and horrible over a period of 9 months!!! Oh, and I used Long handled razor- VERY COMICAL!

Thank you guys again! I need to find my cane and be ready to try this new hardware out!!
 
Yes! I was fine in June, and then I was sore and losing range of movement in July, and by the end of August I could hardly move my leg. I let it drag on from August to February with MRIs and Cortisone shots and lots and lots of tears.... until I FINALLY found you guys and went through with the surgery!
 
Mine started one night in March. It was HORRENDOUS groin pain. Limped along with loads of tears also until made the decision in December. I thought it took YEARS to develop. Guess it has, but nasty pain for just s few. Doctors thought it was an impingement at first. Did rigorous water therapy to stretch it but ended in tears- just made hip worse. Therapist finally said this isn’t working. Got cortisone shot in groin area and helped buy wore off too quickly. Decided to just jump and go for it.
 
Even up until surgery, my range of motion was acceptable. Shoes and socks on that leg, no but otherwise pretty good. Nurses even commented in hospital about range of motion.
 
I had lower back pain and pronounced limp and sciatica and for a year I tried PT as they were still looking at back.
Didn't sleep for two years...more than a restless few hours.
Within those two years, I kept going and got worse worse worst !
Finally sent to a neurologist who suspected hips and simple xray confirmed end stage OA.
Surgery to follow 6 weeks later.
90% good at 6 months post op...now I would say 95%
Yay, for no hip pain, no limp, and having my life back.
Slow and steady wins the race.
 
@Mojo333 i want your percentages soooo much. I have lived with hip or knee pain for over five years. Shattered my femur 5 years ago. Had to SIT for five months to let that mess mend together. A year later I had right knee replaced and two years following my right hip. I just am ready to feel I can “live” again. I am active and taught for 30 years- this has all been since I retired. Bad luck??? :heehee: I am ready to stop measuring a store in my mind to see if I could “do it”. I have passed up stopping for milk because the dairy was all the way in the back. It WILL BE BETTER STEP BY STEP.
 
You are still very early days..
So it's a very achievable goal.
At two months out, things were still pretty tenuous. Slow we go..get a good foundation.
I wondered too how long it would take and how much better I could expect to be.
I hope all keeps going well..
Patience is the hardest part!

A lot of us can identify with that @Walkinginthesand . The corner convenience store probably thinks I moved away since I haven't been in for awhile. I used to stop there for bread, milk and eggs - the prices weren't bad and I didn't have to walk very far! My son has a lizard and I talked to the owner a couple of years ago (he has knee problems and understands) so that he'd let my son use my credit card to buy the crickets each week. Anytime I went in for them, he'd have me satay by the register since the crickets were all the way in the back. You will definitely enjoy when you no longer have to make those calculations before you do anything or make plans with friends!
 
@Mireille i DID have a good day! We took our youngest daughter to lunch. I don’t like clomping into a restaurant with my walker, but I made it and we had s great lunch. Tired when we got home, when does that go away? It is 12:25 am here and I am still having trouble sleeping on my back. Ugh. Saturday, youngest daughter and her dad and I are going to see stage production of “Finding Neverland”. I will be pooped and hopefully sleep long and hard. Have a happy day @Mireille.

@Walkinginthesand - I'm creeping around the forum site today, reading recoveries and being blessed by the stories of triumph. It doesn't seem to matter how long the journey... (well, except to the one making it) ... the destinations are the same... pain-free, new life. Your body has definitely taken a beating over the past few years. Kudos to you for your perseverance.... I hope using that long handled razor made you 'feel' more like your previously 'coiffed' self :heehee: I'm afraid with the aspirin blood thinners I'm on, I'd cut myself and bleed out. :thud: Guess I'll 'get earthy' (unless I can convince my DH to slather some Nair on me.) @SaraK - Lizard? Crickets? :what: Uh boy. I raised 3 boys... sans lizards. What is Lizzy's name?

@SaraK when you said this about crickets and lizards, I was so glad once again that I raised two girls. Crying, tears and moaning sound better than bugs and lizards. :scary:
 
Actually, it's somewhat satisfying to see the crickets get completely slaughtered (luckily, none have escaped). The cats are mesmerized watching the crickets. I refuse to pick up or touch the beardie, though, and have told my son that he's going to have to find a way to sneak the 40 gallon terrarium into his dorm room when he goes off to school in a couple years. He can leave the cat, but not the lizard!

It sounds as though you've been out enjoying yourself. Great to hear!
Being tired can last for awhile. Just think of all the energy your body is using
to heal that poor traumatized leg.
Our bodies energy supply isn't limitless. So when we're in healing mode after major surgery
our energy will be used for healing first, not leaving a great reserve for all the other activity of daily life.
It is completely normal to feel tired for quite some time. How long.....most likely relates to your body's rate
of healing. Making our best effort to get adequate rest and sleep is beneficial. Our bodies do their best healing while we're sleeping. So sneak in some naps without feeling any guilt.:yawn: :sleep: You'll be doing yourself a favor.
