THR Spring is right around the corner

Went shopping yesterday and then met friends for dinner. Today I can’t seem to do anything. I am sooooo tired. Discouraged? Yes! I didn’t think I did that much but today I am weepy, sore and just blue. Just when you think you’ve turned a corner, you run into the wall.:boohoo:

All very normal I am afraid. I found the best strategy was to scheduled an active day followed by a rest day. Pretty soon the rest days get shorter and shorter. Patience is prescribed!

The daughters, son-in-law’s and 4 grandsons were coming over tonight. We decided it was better to cancel for tonight and do lunch tomorrow. I thought I could do it but I can’t- not today. :gaah: I love, love love the bedlam of a full house and kids playing but not today. Frustrated. :boohoo:

@Walkinginthesand Well done for setting your own limits. Disappointed but not defeated! What seems impossible one day is easy the next. Enjoy lunch tomorrow!

@Poodles I am researching “glamping.”. Looking at campers to best fit us and our truck, plus the dog. I am ready! Do you guys go a lot? Also I really enjoy genealogy. Taken my mom’s side back to Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard (they were cousins). My dad’s is more difficult because of Cherokee Indian marriages and names not matching.

Hope you and your friend found loads of information.

Any other hippies who camp, please offer suggestions. We camped IN A TENT with young kids but need beds, etc now.

Hi @Walkinginthesand
Sorry your plans to have family over changed for this evening.
I'll bet your lunch tomorrow makes up for the disappointment of today.
Hope you're doing well and that your evening is a relaxing one!

Glamping:heehee:
Love it. We just sold our camper but lived tent camping and glamping:giggle:
My dad just bought a Ford Fuse Winnebago. It's pretty awesome.
I guess it's my inheritance...most of the time he can't make it across town..:sigh:

@Mojo333 My father in law bought a motorhome a year before he passed away. He never used it even once. I hope your dad uses his. We did inherit the motorhome...and the payments. It was fine. We were good with it and had it for many years.

@Walkinginthesand We can be so spoiled and I admit Gary and I are. We did the tenting, sleeping out under the stars, sleeping the back of my Expedition, and my Excursion, tent trailer, motorhome, travel trailer and now back to the motorhome again. OH, and wilderness camping on horseback in the Cascades. I am into glamping now. I want a shower and a bathroom. I want a comfortable bed...all of the above were good EXCEPT the wilderness camping on horseback. There is no sleep during those trips as you worry about horses all night.

I hope everyone has a great week. :loveshwr: I had such an awesome, relaxing weekend and I feel like I have turned a corner in my recovery, feeling better than I have in a couple years...even with residual soreness. :happydance:

So my take away from this is we should just go for the motor home?:heehee: @Poodles that is what I keep researching.:what: I think we would go allllllll the time.

@Walkinginthesand I am happy to help you spend your money. :rotfl: It's cheaper than an airplane. And a boat...I think??

Beginning Easter weekend we will be gone every other weekend until it gets so hot we would be stuck inside it with the air conditioning :ice: on (although we could read or watch a movie). We don't go far for weekend trips, but we don't have cell service or internet at our favorite spot either. :yahoo: In the fall we go until the snow flies, then hurry up and get it winterized...hopefully, we get one trip in November. Hoping for a minimum of three weeks or longer somewhere we have never been before in the spring or fall.

My best friend and I have taken it to dog shows and she is learning to help me set up. It's big, but we like it and I don't find it intimidating to drive. Love the motorhome.

Layla, Mojo333, SaraK, Jaycey, Mascaramom and Poodles and ANYBODY ELSE please chime in. I have my 6 week appointment on Thursday. I have been really good on 25% weight bearing and hope doctor will give me my “walking papers”. What do I SORT OF look to expect? I KNOW WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT... just really nervous to try. Will it hurt to walk? Can I break it or hurt it? Will I walk with tiny little steps? Any advice will be appreciated. Sometimes the next step is hardest. Right @Mascaramom - you almost ran out before surgery? :sos:

Its hard for me to say. I'm not sure why you were limited on weight bearing. Mine was also uncemented but was able to do full weight-bearing as tolerated from day 1. I would guess, though, that it would be somewhat like others starting weight bearing right after surgery but better because you've had a lot of healing going on and have been moving around some. So, maybe take awhile to transition to full weight bearing to cane to unassisted - in each case, trying next phase a little at first and increase over time. Probably some soreness as you start to use the muscles more, but would hope not any significant increase in pain. But I'm just guessing.

Thank you! I am nervous. Did you limp and have to work on that? I am trying it a bit and it feels okay but some “work” needs to be done. I will let you know! Just don’t want to mess up everything I’ve done so far in this healing. :thankyou:

@Walkinginthesand I don't have any wisdom for you regarding weight bearing but I'm sure you're going to be just fine and your appointment is going to go well. I agree with SaraK, start with assistance and you'll be skipping in no time.

Hopefully all this patience you've displayed and a good report from OS will give you all the reassurance you need to get this new hip on the road.
I'm sure you will be have a bit more quad and other muscle soreness but if you were like me, that hip will be the only thing that isn't sore. Just don't forget to still ice especially after the new walking and I agree if you should feel you need to, keep the cane handy - for stability if nothing else. Sometimes you can get an unexpected twinge or zap as you can get on your way.
Alot of folks, including my self report initial getting up steps as stutter steps...like it takes a few to get muscles to engage and loosen.
You've got this! Good job @Walkinginthesand

You may have discomfort at first since you haven't used the muscles in that leg for awhile. Just take your time and use a walking aid until you feel totally confident. You will be fine!

Hi :)
It's scary but a good scary! I was also told weight bearing as tolerated and have been putting as much weight as possible on it since day one.
At 1st it's scary because it doesn't even feel like your leg. I think I was waiting to feel the hip pain and I Never did. It took me about 2 full weeks for it to actually feel like my leg attached to my body. It also took 2 weeks of home physical therapy for me to feel like my legs were even with each other.

I definitely felt muscle soreness, as if I had gone to the gym and worked muscles that I had never worked before. now that I think about it that's exactly what happened lol there are muscles in my body I hadn't used For 7 months at least. My un-operated leg, (is that a word?) also gets a killer workout from me climbing up the steps lol

I can't wait to hear what the Dr says!!!

Hi @Walkinginthesand
I think your visit with the OS on Thursday will offer you the reassurance you need to move forward.
This whole healing biz can feel scary and uncertain at times if we've never experienced it before.

I had a limp upon transitioning from the walker to the cane. My PT advised heel-toe walking and using the cane until the limp was gone. It takes concentration, usually due to bad habits we established while favoring our ailing hip. Let your heel strike the ground first then toes. I find I walk straighter, stronger, taller when I concentrate on it. At 8 mo post op, I STILL need to remind myself :hissy: Years of a bad habit to correct.
I hope your day is good! Will look forward to your update after the doctor visit on Thursday.
Best of luck to you!

Those are the kinds of things I want to know. Heel-toe not side of your foot and limp? Hehehe I need to find my cane. I am really looking forward to my appointment. I must be ready to move on to next step because I am getting antsy and ready to move! Thank you for your suggestions. Once you start walking, is it painful again? Thanks again, your suggestions and comments really do help. I DONT want to limp anymore if I can help it.
