THR Sore bottom

@KShelton92 It sounds like you might have a piriformis issue. You should go back to the main hip recovery forum and post your own thread so your question will get more attention. In the recovery forum, look for the black box that says "start a new thread" or something like that.

Hi all it's been a long time just had my second hip replacement operation last Monday 3 Dec 2018 all went well left the hospital yesterday.

@mooneguy
Welcome back. You snuck this one in...didn't even let me wish you well ahead of time!
Which hip did you get done this time?
Let us add it to your signature!

New Double Hippy in the house.
All done (aren't you happy there are only two to do?)
Hope you are doing well!

Congrats and Welcome back!
I hope you're resting comfortably and have a nice weekend.
Stay in touch.
@mooneguy

Yes quiet painful but same swelling as last year. This time right hip done 5 days ago.
Have ice on it for the swelling. Happyier than last year knowing there are no more.

Hi guys
Beside ice, elevation ,rest, is their anything your doctor can give for the swelling.Mine is worse in the evening especially around knee + thigh.

Fran. Ireland.

How often and how much are you icing? Our medical expert here recommends 45-60 minutes icing as much as possible throughout the day. Ice the knee and thigh also - all trauma from the procedure.

I'm iceing it about that maybe more.
The op was last Monday it's not too bad in the morning. but come evening its quiet swollen. im doing light walking around
The house. and the excersises the physiotherapy gave me to do 3 x per day
One set is done on the bed and the other
Is done standing total = 6 sets nothing crazy.

Hi there, mooneguy:wave: Happy One Week Anniversary!

Keep the following in mind -

BIG TIP:
Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

What one person deems as "nothing crazy" may not mean the same to another. Wondering if you're causing yourself unnecessary irritation? Also wonder if you should try laying off the PT for a time, continue icing and see if you notice an improvement...
Stay in touch, we're here for you.
@mooneguy

Thanks imGoing to half the pt from now to see how it goes I know its very early days. Love ice

I did too!:ice:

Happy lefty Hipversary!:tada:

Ice is the bomb! Be careful with the PT. Mine landed me into painful tendinitis. Not worth it! Easy does it, with ice on the side.

Hi all
Question I elevated my leg most nights
Due to swelling at days end.
My operated leg is very tender all over the front
When I get up I feel pain 3/ 4 throbbing in the tender areas for the first few minutes its not hot to touch and not painful when sleeping is this throbbing normal its like the blood flowing back in. ?? After a few minutes it eases I worry about blood clots I have cut back pt for now. i feel ok but this throbbing pulse in the thigh area of my operated leg is
On my mind it only happens for a while after I stand up. On x 2 asprin per day +
Wearing stockings .

According to your signature you are only 10 days out of surgery. All this is post op pain. Sounds like you need more than just aspirin at this stage. What were you prescribed post op? You should be taking your meds as prescribed, around the clock.

I'll repost the hip recovery articles here for you to review again.
Hip Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

Pain management and the pain chart
Healing: how long does it take?
Chart representation of THR recovery
Dislocation risk and 90 degree rule
Energy drain for THRs
Pain and swelling control: elevation is the key
Post op blues is a reality - be prepared for it
Myth busting: on getting addicted to pain meds
Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?
BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

Painkillers are called solpha-plus they contain 500mg paracetamol with 12.8mg codeine. X 2 taken every 5-6 hours

But are you taking this medication? You said earlier you are just taking aspirin.

I just mentioned the asprin
I meant to say im taking this also.
Your probably right I think they used a hammer this time to beat my thigh this time the surgical side of my operation was great they were so good.
I feel a bit better today I slept deeply for the first time in 11 days.
I had a hard time in the hospital i suffered a heat stroke episode the ward was so hot I could not stand the heat even visitors who came said it was incredible hot.
Also their was this one patient who was suffering for dementia in the six bed ward and he could not sit or stay still day or night every 5 to ten minutes he walked back and forth and was screaming at the nurses they had to hire separate staff to stay walking beside him he only slept for an hour or two i felt so sorry for him but the effect of his illness was having a big effect on some me in particular he would start fixing your bed and moving stuff around on your bed I could not get any rest after four days and nights of this at 6 am I went don't to the tv room and my temp was rocketing I was sweating and my heart my beating very fast I came down to the nurse and said to her I was having problems I have parasimal afib my heart started to palpitate due to the lying in this extreme heat for hours what bothered me the most was the uncaring attitude of the nurse she called a doctor
And he came after an hour or more he was a junior doctor I said to him what would it take for it to be a quicker response to which he replied it would have to be a crash ( heart attack)
He followed this up with I don't really care I've been up 22 hours and walked away from me he gave me a beta blocker it was 5.45 am I went back to my bed packed my case called my wife and had her collect me at 6.20am I signed myself out. I had lost faith in them.
It was the worst experience of my life i felt it would have been better to die on the side of the road than in that place.
Once I got home the palpitations went I get them if my bowels are annoyed I think between the extreme heat and the stress of not sleeping for 4- 5 days it's all got too much for me I am a strong person I know hospitals are noise at night but this was very bad.
My surgeon called me that evening to ask if everything was ok I said yes I did not go into the details of I had no more to give at this stage it was hard enough to have a hip replacement done but to have that thrown in was a step to far.
I'm getting better now I know in a way it has made me even more determined to get well both my hips are done now I was in pain for four years I'm crying now at the thoughts of walking and running my business without pain. The whole experience scared me i would be very scared to go in again.

Oh my stars..
Horrible hospital experience!
I hate that your recovery has to begin that way.
Glad that you are at home and things will definitely get better!:ok:

Double hippy now and next year will be a great year.:yes!:
Healing vibes coming your way!:friends:

Reading your post made me nervous and you lived through it! What a horrible experience, I can't imagine enduring all of that just hours into recovery from a major surgery. It sounds like a nightmare. Unbelievable you had to suffer in stifling heat with a dementia patient in your room pacing around and yelling out 22-23 hrs per day. I'm a compassionate person but I fear if he was fidgeting with my bed like that while I was overheated and struggling with pain there may have been some projectiles flying around the room and colorful language coming out of my mouth :gaah: :hairpulling: A person can only endure so much. Then add to that the rude doc with the unbelievable bedside manner reminding you how many hours he's been awake. Like understaffing is your problem? Calling your wife so you could escape the madness was a very wise decision. I'm happy to hear things have calmed down for you at home.
At a later date, I think you should make your surgeon aware of your experience in the hospital. Your experience needs to be addressed with the hope they get their act together and others don't have to suffer the same.

I wish you comfort and a peaceful weekend!

Thank you for your kindness . Operation date 03/12/18 right hip replacement.
Here is a update on my progress so far The swelling has gone down and is staying away for now I notice a lot of soreness if I touch around my operated hip leg knee area. I'm assuming this has been caused by all the swelling and trama it feels very tight when I walk around.
Will this improve with time or is there something I need to be doing. Also the tendon behind my operated knee is quiet sore to touch mostly at the knee end it's mostly the knee area thats sore the operation site area is not.
I'm pretty sure they did a lot of twisting during the operation and this caused it. It was lightly bruised on that left side rear area of the knee and along the left tendon on the knee end of the operation leg that's sore.
I'm taking less pain relief at night time now as it's not bothering me when I'm quiet.
I've been doing light pt this time round lessons learned from first hip operation.
And eating a high protein diet. Sleep is poor 3/ 4 hours here and there same as the last time I just keep waking up after short sleeps it not pain that wakes me perhaps it's from inactivity I'm used to doing a lot.
I feel a lot better this time round I would say it's beacause I did not have a general anaesthetic this time the spinal worked.
I must add the team in the operating theater were fantastic.
Ps. The weather here in ireland this Last week has been dreadful we get rain here that is hard to describe. but Christmas is coming to cheer us all up. I can't wait
To walk pain free after almost four years
Of pain I've forgotten what it's like to have one day pain free it's exciting
For the new year.
Happy Christmas to you all. It's a Great site.
Fran.
