THR Sore bottom

Hi,

Great post. Glad you got to shower. A new lease on life. Good luck tonight. Don’t get into the over done it club. It’s easy to do. You feel fine doing what you want and then...oh no! We’ve all done it. It’s ups and downs. Hope your neighbors wished you well on your outing.

Yes they did thanks. 1 hip still to go later this year. I Was wondering is it ok as the nurse stated to leave the plaster off of the scar.

In my experience it is standard strategy to leave the wound uncovered after having the staples or sutures removed. If you had any drainage they might have had you cover it. But it should be fine uncovered.

Yep. My nurse said to leave it uncovered to get air. He said to wash all over but only let water flow over the incision. No soap, scrubbing, lotions or oils. I like a tub bath but can’t do that until my 4 week check up. No lotion until then either. I’ll get to drive after that appointment I hope. I’m bored. Is it snowy there in Ireland? It’s a beautiful day here in Virginia. I’ll take a walk later.

Walked quite a lot around the town of Naas in Co Kildare Ireland then to Lidl for the Christmas food shopping
You bad boy! did you not read all the articles I left for you in post number 5 of this thread? One of them was Activity progression for THRs and it said the following quite clearly that you shouldn't be going out shopping until at least week 6. Do please read it before you do yourself some damage (and I don't mean your hip!)

My nurse said to leave it uncovered to get air.
I once worked with a surgeon who used to do massive surgeries on people with cancer in the neck. We called them 'commandoes' for reason as the operating site looked like a battle field and rarely took less than 6 hours! But at the end, he was left with this huge wound but never put anything on it, not even plastic skin spray. He always said he left it to "God's good clean air" for healing. However, I don't suppose he'd be so happy to say that these days, hospitals being the source of so much MRSA contamination!

Happy healing and have a happy holiday.
All temporary...you'll be a pro by your next one.

Hello is it normal to have a lot of pain at the Fermerol thigh area the soft tissue around that area is quiet sore to touch some of the swelling in my leg has gone down I have not being doing much I have been using rest, ice, elevation.
Fran.

Oh @mooneguy i think it is very normal. While it may look much less swollen you can have swelling inside. And you mean you haven’t been doing much today, right? Because wasn’t it yesterday you were out walking about town for quite a bit and today you are quite sore?

You are sounding very normal to me for only 11 days out. Just focus on walking about the house on a regular basis.

You're a quick learner. Times to rest are just as important to healing.
Glad you were able to get out, but we do feel it when we have overdone it.
Hope your holiday is restful.
Healing hugs:santa hug:

Fran,
I’m sorry you were sore. I did something similar yesterday. It was a beautiful day and we have a nice woods close by. My husband and I took a walk on a gravel path. Fortunately, I don’t need a cane...just walked arm in arm (sort of romantic). I wasn’t in “terrible” pain after, but I felt some swelling and a bit of heat on my thigh. The rest of the day, I spent elevating and icing. Slept well. The effects of your outing will subside, but you better wait a while before going out again. The mantra...rest, elevate, and ice. Patience is a virtue that I don’t have. This has been quite a lesson for me and I think you, too. Yes?

Yes it's true I'm the sort of person who has not stayed still since discovering how to walk. I worked right up to the operation self employed. The surgeon used the word rotten describing my femoral head and said it was amazing I could walk at all. No damage to the socket i was i guess lucky. Since I have been paying a bit of respect to my new hip turning slower, resting, not going out Ice elevation etc the pain has subsided a lot. So now that I know what's working I will follow that I just checked all the movie times and have highlighted them up to next Wednesday. After that all going well the soft tissue soreness and swelling hopefully in a better place im going to start my excersises 4 time per day.

FRAN.

Hi Fran
Looks like someone may have been trying to get into the ODIC (Over Did It Club) :bignono:
Hey....live and learn, seems like we all take a peek into that place :kickedout:
You sound like a quick study though....behaving yourself....with all the movies you want to watch checked off. Hope that includes popcorn.

Wishing you a day of comfort and peace as you ice, elevate, watch movies and snooze   @mooneguy

Hi all hope you all had a nice Christmas. I'm happy it's over this year anyway. it has Just been a completely different Christmas, to any other year due to the operation on the 11th Dec.

Well so far I've been behaving myself I started doing the exercises, Christmas day twice a day and will increase them to four a day slowly over a week. I agree with all the advice about the slow easy way to start off with a hip replacement exercises. I have started using my treadmill on it's lowest setting flat for ten minutes walking.

I'm taking dolophine X2 about every 12 hours or longer if I have no pain. The pain I have now is a dull ache from the operation site running down my thigh. I can tolerate it better now. But now and then I get a bad pain that I noticed after lying in bed for a few hours and perhaps if I use the bathroom it can stay painful and require some painkillers.

I have noticed the muscles in my legs getting stronger again slowly each day. Also I notice my other hip is acting up but its nowhere near as bad as the one that was operated on. I'm getting the right hip done very soon. I will know when I see the surgeon in 4 weeks time.

I have a question for you guys if you have any experience with this. During first hip operation they used a spinal but it did not work so I had a general anaesthetic. Does that mean a spinal won't work on the next hip operation or was that just bad luck. I would prefer the spinal with sedation not a general anaesthetic.

This is what is causing that soreness and pain in your op leg. Go back and read the BIG TIP Jo posted for you earlier.

Really good question! I'm going to ask the expert to comment @Josephine .

It was bad luck. And it was the anaesthetist's fault it didn't work!

Did you miss this tip you were given with the recovery articles? Perhaps you did so here it is again. You should also remember (as if you need me to remind you!) that you are only 2 weeks out!

Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.
