OMG, I love the bobcats, how close were you, the kingfisher is beautiful too, around here they do not let you get too close to them

I was holding my breath as I read your post, when you talked about the pop of your hip, so glad it was nothing and that you are still survey the woods and rivers of Florida. Please remember to be careful thoug, we do not want to our nature warrior down or hurt

bellaroma I'm awful at estimating distances, but I was shooting with my Canon SX40 camera, and it wasn't at maximum zoom. They certainly saw me. We laugh about the Kingfishers and how they taunt us. I have so many pictures of where the bird was, right before I clicked the shutter, or blurred images because they were so far away. Both of these pictures were just lucky, and never putting my camera away.

I don't know what happened with my hip, but I seem to be okay. I don't have any restrictions, and all I did was twist to look out the back window---I mean, when I think about all the other things I do....

So glad you're back with us!

I understand, we have kingfishers in the summer, but not as many as you have, and I have never been able to get a picture of one. Like you said they taunt, the osprey taunt me in a different way, when I am fishing in my kayak, and catching nothing, they circle over my head, dive and come up with a nice fish. They are such show offs.

Sometimes the popping sound when twisting is related to a ligament stretching across a muscle.. you did the right thing, elevate and iced :)

I am slowly getting back into my Nordic Walking after time out and find that I get a burning sensation in my groin and associated swelling even at 13 months post.. I ice and elevate, helps.

Recovery from a THR, irrespective of surgical approach is still a marathon..

xx

p.s. beautiful photos :) you have inspired me to take more - thank you xx

Poppet thanks. It was not a noise, but a popping sensation and sharp pain, that actually seems to have left me better than before:shocked: Maybe something needed to pop:spin:

I was wondering if you'd gotten back to your NW yet---good for you! I'm not surprised at the soreness. I know when I've been away from the gym for even a week or two, when I go back, I get sore. Do you do your NW in places where there is wildlife? I really enjoy the critters.

bellaroma Yesterday on the river we had a brief glimpse of an otter who was so startled to see us that he dropped a good sized fish on the bank and dove in the water. We also saw many eagles and hawks, roseate spoonbills and wood storks. Sand hill cranes.

sissy46

OK, definitely sounds like a ligament crossing a muscle.. that is a good thing, just settling :)

Today, I just walked around the local houses.. a couple of magpies is all I heard chortling away.. when we head down to our retirement house, we walk along a pathway, that goes for K's alongside the ocean.. very spectacular.. where we live/work on the weekends we often walk around a lake and there is heaps of water birds, water rats, lots of wild life.. and dare I say, lots of people.. but we go very early in the morning to try and avoid the humans... hehehe!

Sissy, you are really something (good, of course)! I think between you and Tammy you'll have all of us beat. Hmmm could there be something to that Florida stuff??? John, did you hear that way up north??

Beth, I love your name for Sissy - Nature warrior. We know Tammy is our Crossfit warrior. Poppet is the Nordic Walk warrior. Beth you're our To Heck and Back warrior, Nerdgrrl is our Hiking warrior and Dutch is our Hockey warrior. Not sure I want to be known as the Bakery warrior!?!?!?! Maybe the Inner Rule Follower warrior. Someone has to be the voice of reason sometimes. I'm willing to compromise just a little! :)

Sissy

You are truly the David Attenborough of Bonesmart. (UK's best-loved wildlife presenter.)

I don't believe there is any kind of deity watching over us, but if I were to see "3 young bobcats" whilst out on a bike ride, I might reconsider, and decide I had gone to Heaven.

Here in semi-rural NW UK, we don't get such opportunities unless we drive quite some distance. (And even then no bobcats.)

My husband and I compensate by going on wildlife holidays, to diverse locations, including Madagascar, Galapagos and Aldabra, and eco-lodges in the Amazon. Last year in Norway we had the opportunity to visit a wolf sanctuary where you could interact with a pack of wolves, which I would have loved. However, you had to be physically fit, and able - get this - to crouch down with them. No chance for me!

We were staying in an Amazon eco-lodge in Peru just before I had the accident which started the long-running saga of my dodgy hip. We had trekked through the jungle, accompanied by the centre's free (but semi-tame) purple-backed trumpeter birds, for a blessing from a shaman, during which the birds enthusiastically joined in with the ritual chanting. I was promised 3 months of wealth, good fortune, and good health.

10 days later I had the accident.

The shaman had not asked for money (though I gave him some), otherwise I could have sued under the Sale of Goods Act.

Glad to hear that whatever popped out for you has popped back in again.

All the best.

Glynis

dede62 I love our warrior names.. I could have owned up to be the bakery warrior before I started my diet... But Nordic walker is Peeeeerfect :)

Hi glynis. How are you ?

I loved the descriptions of your holidays.. We have a member, WelshJane who is going trekking in Nepal early next year.. :)

dede62 good warrior names, all! And Cookie42 is our Contortionist Warrior. YoungGma is our Party Girl Warrior. I'm sure we can think of some others.

glynis are you not the gal who fell out of the airplane, or do I mistake you for someone else? Thank you for your far too generous compliment. You have done some traveling!! Not being able to crouch down with the wolves would have been reason enough alone for a THR. What an experience. I would love to go to Norway. I traveled more during my working years than I have since I retired, but that may change and I may have lots of experiences taking my new hip through airport security. Right now, I am loving being able to enjoy places close to home without pain---the bobcats I saw (yes, a peak experience for me, too!) were on a bike trail in a state park which is 25 miles from home; the Kingfisher on a river that is 10 miles from me. Wekiwa Springs State Park, where I volunteer, and where I take many pictures while kayaking or hiking, is only 10 miles from my front door. And there is actually quite a bit of wildlife right out my back door, as I live by a lake. I am very lucky, and I know it:SUNsmile:

Poppet funny thing, Cookie42 and I a while back, were both saying that we had this tightness, soreness when we'd first start to walk, and lifting the knee high (like marching) seemed to help. We all had a good laugh over that, but now I wonder if that motion didn't stretch something like a ligament that was causing the tightness---and that popping I felt had something to do with that. Anyhoo, I hopped out of bed this morning with nary a twinge, so I am a very happy and grateful camper this morning!

Sissy, the bobcat experience, probably would have brought tears to my eyes, I remember driving up our street one day and there was postioned on a huge boulder coming out from the ground, a buck a doe and 2 babies, the scene was picture perfect. The grandeur of their stance took my breath away.
I am glad that you are doing well and that pop was just a settling in, hope you have fun today, here it is warm today 50s(That is warm for us,:)), but extremely blustery and rainy, so will work on straigtning out the house

dede62, I love the warrior names, you are definetly the inner rule warrior. I have so much respect for you as you know how to balance what you must do with what you want to do, to often we push ourselves when we shouldn't or don't push wne we should, but you know how to do both. Florida is great for those of us with arthritis, I remember one of my staff moved there for awhile and his arthrities got so much better, he had to return for personal reasons, but then returned their permanetly a little while ago.
glynis, I am envious of your travels, to be able to see those places must be truly amazing. The
Galapagos is one place I would reallly love to see, even though I am torn between going there and the commercialization of the area.
Poppet, your retirement home seems like a dream come true, I live on the water and would not trade it for anything. Your country is one of the most beautiful ocean enviroments in the world and it will be heaven to live on the ocean there. Each day brings you one step closer.

bellaroma Do you get white pelicans up there? There were 13 on my lake this morning! Even more amazing, I had run all the way to the boat dock with my camera before I noticed I was running!! I hope I don't pay for that later, but so far, so good.
We need warrior names for Spid and oldyellr. And of course, our Pugfugly ----well, she's the Hobbit Warrior!

And here I am, stuck in the middle of Southern Illinois, surrounded by corn and bean fields. turning green with envy. We do have plenty of deer and wild turkeys, but an exciting day for spotting wild life is seeing two mocking birds fighting under my lilac bush (this morning). Right now it's freezing cold and the wind is blowing about 30 mph -- there is nothing short of a house fire that would make me want to stick my nose out the door.

I'm sort of feeling like I've back-slid, if that's a word. I've been hurting when moving the past couple of days and don't know why. I've been taking the Tylonel arthritis pills, been wrestling the grands, doing a bit of cleaning out -- nothing different or strenuous , but am also doing some serious limping or wanting to -- I keep telling myself not to limp, but sometimes cannot obey. I wish that stinking ligiment would pop for me! Pretty sure I'm not doing too much, especially after reading all the stuff others are doing, but maybe it's too much for my individual, overweight, unexercised, most unwarrior-like body. So I can't decide whether to tone it down a bit or step it up!

Does anyone else have little tingles in your thigh sometimes -- sort of like tiny electric shocks? I'm thinking they're nerves waking up and saying hello.

Cookie42 Yes! I just started getting those tingling, tickling sensations, especially when I lie on my operative side. Not bothersome, just funny.
It is cold, and windy here---very sunny and clear; looks like a gorgeous day until you walk outside. Glad I cancelled my paddling plans for today and took Grayson to the vet for his annual instead.
Cookie, I was definitely getting that slid-back feeling with the soreness and stiffness when walking. I backed off a bit on the activity---I don't know whether that helped or if it was just coincidence, but it gradually seemed to get better. Cleaning house and wrestling with the grands would have me crawling.

Sissy, only a very, very lost pelican would make its way here, I have heard that in certain parts of Florida they can be as abundant as seagulls or pigeons, is that true? WOW, you ran!!!! That is a Forgotten Hip Moment on Steriods:yay:

Cookie42, ok I am going to give you a friendly whack on the side of the head, everyones recovery is an individuall journey, and taking care of grandkids is quite a high level activity, pace yourself walk carefully and use an aid if you need to to not limp. Each step I take with my crutch I repeat over and over in my head, heel to toe, heel to toe. You are doing fine, heck I certainly am not jumping through any hoops, but our journey is our journey. And yes I do get those little electric shock feelings, I kept thinking they were either the nerves like you said or internal stiching. Happy Holidays, my friend.

One of the white pelicans that inspired my jogging this morning, and a cormorant. The white pelicans are huge, 62" long compared to our year-round brown pelicans 48" long.

Take it easy! It's Christmas and we all tend to do more than usual. I'm awake and its 3.35am and freezing. Cookie42 you are amazing, no wonder you're feeling a bit down. I can just about cope looking after myself and yet you look after little ones!

Have a great Christmas everyone x
