@shrinkette I feel your anxiety right thru the computer. I am SO sorry your husband is having problems right now, and I know that can't help the way you feel. Right now is a time when everything needs to be centered around YOU and you're having to worry about him, too. That has got to be very hard and must be adding to your stress.

The last day before my first surgery, DIL and the boys took me shopping at Wal-Mart for food and stuff, and I rode in one of those cart-scooter things. We had fun and it took my mind off. Then she spent the night at my house because I had to be at the hospital SO early the next day -- like 5:00 AM. Anyway it was good that day flew by with stuff that was a change for me. I didn't have time to brood or fret, and that was good. The morning of the surgery, I didn't have time to fret because we were rushing to get there at that awful hour. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I hope you can get your mind off it a bit in the last day and just kind of let it flow around you. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer!

You are very much in my thoughts and prayers right now, as always.

Love to you, dear friend.

Milli

I took my chargers with me and Harry found plugs for them, although I was sleepy most of the time so was not really interested in using them much. I have the attention span of a slug on this Percocet.

@shrinkette, Thought you were having hip surgery this week, not knee surgery. So sorry, my mistake. My best wishes for a pain-free recovery.

@shrinkette, I'm a bunch of time zones away from you and I hope you're sleeping soundly right now. Our long wait is almost over my dear and very soon it'll be all over. I'm very sorry your husband is not well - very bad timing for sure. You are strong and you can and will do this. Have a good day tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you

@Butterfly I have saved you for the last of my replies & comments because you're very special to me. I think we have a rare understanding of each other... speak the same language, or something. And, of course, you were the first to welcome me to BS about 4 months ago when I was, indeed, a " Very Nervous Newbie." Feels like yesterday...NOT!

I appreciated your tale of your "last day" & the relief it brought. I'm now about 45 minutes into The Day Before Surgery & don't know what it will bring. If hubby is appreciably better, I will be greatly relieved. Right now he's sleeping beside me, having fallen asleep as soon as he hit the pillow, AFTER taking a long nap in his "man-cave" TV room -- sleeping so deeply that when I called him on the phone intercom, he didn't hear it! Guess he needed it. He said he was a little better. So...

Suitcase is out & packed with the clothing i may or may not need; personal stuff, toiletries, my beloved I-devices, are still to go, but most are out & at hand. All jewelry stays home, even wedding ring, so that's easy...just have to pull a robe & a knit lounger or 2 out of my closet if I can hobble in there on cane (4-wheel walker with seat doesn't get through doorways easily); will have to get used to regular walker again. I have a To-Do list which is now just about done. & a packing list which helps enormously. Makes me feel more secure.

Probably have told you we don't cook, so breakfast can range from Cheerios with blueberries or bananas, raisins, & pecans or walnuts with skim or almond milk, to hubby's attempt at scrambled eggs (ng), to a toasted bagel & lox with fresh OJ & coffee. More likely, it'll be some sort of eggs from nearby deli with home fries & toast or we'll share chocolate chip/strawberry crepes & a Greek omelet. We really eat 2 meals a day plus hubby eats lots of fresh fruit & Weight Watcher brand ice cream pops (except for the special occasions when we kidnap a Ben n Jerry's). Don't know what he's gonna eat while I'm recovering though there's plenty of frozen prepared stuff. My daughter just informed me she wants to go with him to Whole Foods & help him pick out some appetizing ready-to-eat goodies. Don't have any idea why I've just told you all this! Must be the surgery crazies. The Babbles.

Once I know hub's back to himself pain & personality-wise, things will be better. Our daughter will be with us on Tuesday, as will a couple who are close, good friends, maybe my bro-in-law (through hub's sister), who's a good guy, but a real conversational dud. A mop has more personality. Hub's sister just had her aortic valve replaced a month ago.

Anyway. my dearest Milli, how I want to meet you over there in that mysterious place called the other side. Hopefully, I'll still have all the parts I came in with less a diseased hip. And no surprises except fabulous ones.
And sweet, restful sleep. Waking to minimal pain would be nice, but I think I'm milking this. I'll just do the best I can, hope I can move enough to do what they want me to do, prove myself able, & go home! Just praying I made the right choice of OS & that he surrounds himself with a great team. The hospital is known for an award-winning ortho floor! And a menu you can order from all day -- no set meal times. Just call Dietary when you want something! I'm planning to request a private room; they say they can't guarantee it; won't know until admission. Hate to contend with roommate's visitors, loud TVs, or modesty & bathroom issues. Just easier to be alone; am not here to make friends. So, Milli, I think I've finally worn myself out. Am pleased to say that my hip is really bothering me tonight! Trying to tell me he wants out. Take care of yourself & sending you best wishes for an end to your pain. Good night, dear friend.

Love,
Ellen❤❤

@grandma chris Nope, not sleeping soundly yet. A bit wired, actually. It's 1:54 am est here. BUT... I may not get another chance to wish you a most successful, easy, problem-free surgical outcome. Just don't forget the stool softeners, & you're home free! Go get 'em, girl!!!

Hi Ellen @shrinkette , it's very early UK time and I see you are still awake. Pre surgery nerves - totally natural. Don't let that imagination get away from you. THR is far easier than you are imagining. And all the family/home stuff will sort itself. Time for you now. Get some rest - not long now!

@Jaycey thanks... So hope you're right. Getting ready to roll over (while I still can!) & sack out. Good point about imagination !! You always impart such great wisdom. Thanks so much.

@fulafoto Thanks, Bill. Bet you can't wait for your appt next month! You WILL hear from me from the other side as soon as I get my wits together sufficiently or am not sleeping. Keep your fingers crossed! All the best,

Ellen

Best wishes for your surgery tomorrow! May the OS be guided by the healing hands of the Lord

Hope it goes perfectly tomorrow Ellen. I know you will surmount all the difficulties and soon be posting how well you're doing!

Hi @ shrinkette....it's your time to fly over to the hippie side where everyone will be waiting to welcoming you back. Good luck..stay calm...all will be well. Chrissie x

Best wishes to you, you'll be the right side soon

@shrinkette You don't have any kind of "crazies". Talking about stuff, especially mundane stuff, really helps to get thru the last day before the surgery. My DIL pointed out to me that day that I was on the fifth run-through of what pills to give which of my doggies at what time, and then I STILL wrote it down so even an idiot could understand it. I also told her about 14 times about how I wanted to be treated if I came out brain dead. After rolling her eyes towards the heavens, she opined that maybe I already was.

I know it feels like you are going to your doom (I felt a bit like Marie Antoinette getting into the tumbrel), but you are really taking that step into a new life. I'm sure you are in very good hands -- those great surgeons don't get there by screwing up or having a lousy track record. This might be your first hip rodeo, but it most definitely is not your surgeon's. Trust in his skills -- you'll come out a new woman.

Sounds like you have lots of friends and family there for you. If I weren't so far away, I'd come down and join them. Sorry I'm so late getting on here today, but I had to have a repair man come today, and then doctor stuff and had to wait forever and then came home and crashed for a couple hours. I was SO tired. I am feeling better though (almost afraid to say that out loud) and I am back to using the cane as opposed to the walker. Mine won't go through doorways, especially bathrooms and closets, easily either and I spend a lot of time using language my mother would definitely not approve of as I try to get around with it. Besides that, it makes an irritating "screech" sometimes, especially when I'm out in public.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers all day tomorrow, and I'll send you healing energy, too. (Not sure how good MY healing energy is, but I"ll send it anyway.) Everyone on here is supporting you and rooting for you. You'll be fine, and soon heading into your recovery stage perched in your chair watching awful stuff on TV -- the pain meds will make you fuzzy enough the first few days that you won't even notice how awful it is and you'll drift off into blissful slumber, feeling so glad that the surgery is behind you and proud of your courage to just "git 'er done."

Love to you, dear friend, and may you have a peaceful night and a calm morning.

Milli

@Butterfly. Ok, truly my last for the night. Milli, reading back my last long post to you, I have NO idea why I went into our food habits!! I read your comments, but it seems so BIZARRELY out-of-the-blue. I accept that I'm a little crazy.

But oh so glad to hear you're feeling better. And that's where I'll leave it tonight before I tell you how much I weigh, where & how I lost my virginity, & if I ever inhaled. 'Night, dear one. Per Scarlett, tomorrow IS another day!

Love,
Ellen
