Times like these show who your true friends are.

Its clear yuo both have some. But perhaps not who you expected!

Hi Shawnna, the tighteness is normal, it is the underlying collagen fibers trying to break and realign back to the normal straight position they were in prior to the surgery.. All part of the normal process of healing honey xx

That's a relief and good to know! Thanks Sandy! :thumb:

So very true Dave!

If anyone reading this is in the Seattle area - or greater Puget Sound area even - I'm more than willing to help with anything anyone needs! Just let me know how I can make this journey easier for you and I'm on it!

Hello Shawnna,

Im dealing with the tightness too, mines above the operated side knee, it was the only area that bruised also, with the walking and some exercises it will stretch itself out.

Dorothy sorry about your friend. I had a situation shortly after my surgery, without going into details it was really rude and hateful, I'm pretty good and spinning things and letting things go, forgiveness etc. Because this person actions made me feel super vulnerable, and without them knowing I literally couldn't turn of the tear drops lets blame the pains Meds for that, no it crushed me and there has been a history of these types of comments. Fast forward it's no longer a friendship. True friends are loving, supportive, non judgemental i have a small handful of loving affectionate life friends and recently have met some amazing new friends. Maybe I'm getting old as I head towards 50....all I know is I don't want mean, hateful people in my life!

Sorry if I sounded like I was venting, not meant that way.....

xxooxx

One of the most important Life Lessons I've ever learned is to watch what people do - especially when the going gets rough. I had a couple of 'friends' offer to 'help' and have I heard from them since discharge?

I've gotten more support and help from everyone on this forum than from some who I considered 'friend' that live near me.

It makes it doubly hard because I have no family living in the Pacific Northwest other than my youngest son - who lives with me. So I really want to rely on my friends.

And now I'm whining - which I definitely don't want to do.

So I'm focusing on my healing and nurturing the wonderful new friends I've found here.

Life Lessons abound.

Shawnna - NO laundry!
[Bonesmart.org] Shawnna's Right Hip Recovery
You are far too early out to be doing any housework. You're not even two weeks yet .... you're supposed to be resting and recovering and nothing else. Let others look after all that - you're a patient and need to be looked after.

Some suggestions for home physio (PT) and activity progress
Week 1
Walking around the house. Trips to the bathroom and kitchen are included!
Being up on your feet several times a day as you need to but don't get obsessive about it.
A 5 minute walk every one to two hours is plenty.

Week 2
Start on a plan of walks around the house lasting longer than 5 minutes but don't a) get into too much pain and b) get too tired. Stop before you get to that point.

Week 3
Take short walks outside the house in the garden, driveway or road for about 5-10 minutes maximum, once a day.

anyway, where do you get all your neat little smileys? I seem to be adding another one to my archive every time you make a post! :th_heehee:

Jo -

[Bonesmart.org] Shawnna's Right Hip Recovery

You're absolutely right; I know I'm going to have to be much more disciplined about that and spend way more time doing this

[Bonesmart.org] Shawnna's Right Hip Recovery

Good news though is I've got a potential house cleaner coming over tomorrow morning to give me an estimate as I fully recognize my need for a little help for the next month or so.

As for the smilies; I've got a slew of them I use and am happy to send you a PM or something with some more you may like. Let me know what works for you and I'll pass them along.

Thanks but I'll just pick them off as you post them - I think I have around 2,000 of them atm! I really shouldn't keep adding to them!

Okay, it's time to admit this publicly so that I can be appropriately admonished by you wonderful new friends!

I've gone and done a bad thing today; I really should NOT be doing housework of any kind and just resting and walking around the house occasionally. I know that and even though I know that, I've still managed to screw it up.

Because I've felt so much better I couldn't resist cleaning the family room (now officially occupied by our Pug family members) as well as doing some laundry and the dishes. My incision area ached all day and I have some swelling around it - for the very first time since my surgery.

I've got a nice ice pack going with my legs up now and Ryan (my son) says he will finish the laundry.

I guess this is to be expected; two steps forward and three steps back seems to be the story of my life when faced with having to nurture myself and rest.

:gaah:

Well, I'm not going to admonish you because you already said you knew you shouldn't do it.
But I don't buy the "just couldn't resist it". I so wish I was Judge Judy so I could say what I feel like saying!

But you knew the risk and it was your choice to test it out and see if the consequences were worth it.

So now you can tell us - were they? :wink1:

Naughty Shawnna!

Take this time to rest up and heal, you are to busy doing things and sincerely it doesn't help in your recovery. For me it wasn't tough to relax, for some it can be very tough to do this. It's only a few weeks then you can go back (slowly) to the daily chores. I would worry that the first few weeks you are physcially vulnerable, I've read stories here on the website where people have over done things, and they hurt.....not cool!

Have a lazy week this week it will do you good!

xxooxx

Hey Shawnna,

I'm still playing on the "my leg's just a bit sore .... no I'm ok really ... I probably did too much," ...plus the wounded hero look:skeptical: ... to get out of doing the dishes!!! and I'm seven weeks on. I do think my other half is catching on tho'

Enjoy the R & R you'll be back on the treadmill soon enough.

Shawnna - you naughty girl! I know it's hard to sit and watch the dust gather. But for now you need to focus on you and your healing. No one will die if things get a bit dirty!

Rest and ice lots now. You will be ready to tackle the world again soon.

Ok - I did suffer for my choices last evening, for sure.

Interestingly enough, after a rather fitful night's sleep, for the first time since surgery I can honestly say that when I got up this morning, I felt considerably better than I did pre-surgery.

I'm actually astounded at how accustomed I had become to being incredibly stiff and use to pain. This morning when I got out of bed, I felt like I did when I was 40 again.

Now the goal is to not let this infuse any kind of over-confidence or otherwise deceive me into believing I'm 'normal' yet and continue allowing my body to go through its required healing.

Woohoo, I want what Shawnna has :)

That's great! I am very pleased for you ...

Well.... another milestone for me today.

With my incision fully healed, I ran a nice hot bath and soaked all my cares away! I have a nice, deep tub which leaves me quite buoyant so getting out was easy peezy.

And my new housekeeper starts tomorrow.

And when my mechanic shop heard about my surgery, they are picking up my car for service and returning it to me to save me the trip.

:yes 4:

Feeling quite accomplished at the moment. Am still taking it very easy as I know I'm prone to overdue things. The bath itself was quite exhausting (probably because I was fretting about it so much!) so I'm going to take a nap and watch a little television.

I'm really glad that things are going well Shawnna. Your car mechanics sound like nice people, I find sometimes when I'm feeling a bit flat or frustrated that its unexpected kindnesses like this that lift me right back up . Carry on the good work -but not too much of it!
Best wishes , Tylie

:thumb: Sounds like you're doing really well, Shawnna  I think you will find that having a house cleaner coming in will lift your spirits immensely - I know it does for me :snork: It is so much easier to rest and relax when the house is tidy and there is not much that "must" be done! And congrats on the soaking bath!! I have not tried one yet myself - I'll wait until one of my friends comes over and is in the house before I do - as I might need help leveraging myself out of the tub :th_heehee:

Hi Shawnna

Please listen to the advise Jo is giving you and don,t push yourself to much as patience is the name of the game.
Think carefully and do the sensible thing please take care.
