Glad hubby Songman helped you out Songlady . He's a good spouse and a good sport. Mom will readjust fine and settle in, then you'll get a bit of a breather. One day at a time, like ZB said. That's all we can do...

So.... Songlady is back in a cheerful state! Anyone want to sing.....?

Yipee! We will sing and be heard!
Ha, ha you two singing together, don't be offended if I don't join in 'cos I'd probably have all the local cats going off with my noise!!:heehee:
Really good news about your mum Songlady, I think if they feel confident about their life and getting on and doing things it's most definitely half the battle!! :)

Songlady wow, you've been busy. For some reason I have not been receiving alerts about your posts this week, and I missed lots. Really glad your mom is home and seems to be readjusting. It is really difficult for older people to leave their homes-disorienting.

The rain was awful and made me grumpy, too. Difficult to handle cane, umbrella ànd handbag in a driving rain. The past couple of sunny days here have been a gift. Hope we get a few more.

Saw that you mentioned soft orthotics. Look for a store that sells Lynco by Aetrex orthotics. They are about $45. The store will have a machine that analyzes the kind of orthotic you need. They last for at least a year, and I wash them if they need it.

Hope you are also getting some sun.
Lenora

How many months/years between your first and second hip operation? My left is only 3 months old, and my right is due sometime, but when?

Hi LeeApril26 - Thanks for the info about the orthotics! They sound wonderful!
And SQB - I had 3 years between my hip operations. At my 2 year appointment for my first hip, the orthopedist told me the second one was bone-on-bone, but I put off the surgery for a year after that.
There are a number of other people on here who have done them only a few months apart. Littlejem just had her second one done, only months after her first!

zauberflöte ByGosh Elosarabrab Peaches LeeApril26 Littlejem nmscienceteacher Poppet and... oh goodness, I still haven't learned how to go back a page and not lose what I'm writing!!
9 weeks today. I had to take the stick shift car in 90 degree muggy heat and pick up Mom (who has breathing issues) and bring her to the cardiologist she'd seen years ago or a baseline test. We decided to take her car, instead, which has working air conditioning, from her house to the Dr.
Her's is NOT a stick shift, but we stalled at every stop sign and red light. I think her transmission needs checking! The doctor was kind and took his time and thinks she doesn't need heart and BP meds she'd been put on in hosp and at rehab.(Today her BP was higher than usual: 110/60!)
All went without too much issue; one main reason I go with her at this point is her HEARING. She has no clue how deaf she is, and her impression is that she'd have to pay cash for hearing aids, so she goes without. The receptionist, afterwards, asked, "Where is your pharmacy?" and mom answered, "Early afternoons would be best!" Over and over the conversations go like that.
I went on to meet with a potential supervisor at a job I'd applied for pre-surgery, to find the hiring committee had taken "a different tack" and had decided to go for someone with different strengths. As Songman said, that's better than if they'd rejected me to go for someone with "my strengths" but not me.....still, the perception of rejection is hard.
So needless to say, everything in my hip, lower back, shoulder (on the cane side).....hurt.
I've wondered about the inter-relation of emotional stress and pain. It all hurts more when I hurt emotionally. I needed the cane today and felt the op-hip with every step, and other days that has not been the case. Otherwise my 9 week review is generally non-dramatic and slightly better as each week goes by..... Thanks for listening, hip sisters!

Songlady. I'm so sorry about your difficult day. Taking your mom off of the meds sounds like it could be very good news. But the combo of driving that stop/start car, anticipating being stuck on the side of the road with your mom, and the stress of the medical appointment, would be enough to make your whole body sore. In this heat having the car die could have been catastrophic for your mom. No wonder you feel beaten up. Add the miserable meeting and even more stress. Why in the world did they bring you in just to tell you they went in another direction.
I can just imagine how tightly you were holding your body during all of this. Hope you can rest tonight and tomorrow.

Thanks, LeeApril26. Thanks for putting the stress and muscle tension into perspective!
Actually, one of the supervisors I would have worked with in the new place is a personal friend, and he had called and asked to meet me for coffee just to give me a "heads up" as a kindness. I'd been waiting to hear for.... months (since pre-op!)
At least I was treated to one of those evil frozen coffee concoctions....:)

Songlady. Okay, that's better, and those evil coffee drinks are really good! Sorry about the job though, that stinks, and especially after such a long wait. Hope something wonderful opens up soon.

I tend to tense up under stress, so often have muscle pain from it. I can just see your whole body tightening up around your cane, and on the steering wheel.

What a rubbish day you had Songlady and why couldn't they have written to you earlier to let you know they'd changed their idea on the direction they wanted to go!! It was good news with mum but still very stressful, worrying over the appointment the journey etc, it all adds up. Then the 'waste of time' appointment about the vacancy, even the thought of interviews are very stressful. It's really no wonder you were feeling so bad and yes everything hurts more when you're down. Like ByGosh and her party, if you are enjoying yourself it really helps with the pain and discomfort and it obviously works in reverse. Like nmscienceteacher says, there will be another job with your name on it and it WILL be better!! Take care x

I've wondered about the inter-relation of emotional stress and pain.
I am convinced that the stress of my sons' young years gave me my heart condition! "Idiopathic" they tell me, but I have this gut feeling...
That must have been tense, with the car stalling out all the time. I know how I would have felt! Your mom and hearing aids-- she wouldn't wear them anyway, you know. Neither my mother nor m-i-l wear theirs. The lesson here is, as hubby's oldest sister did-- get 'em NOW and get used to them! LOL
Please take it easy today :) 0999999999999999999999999999999999999oi8uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu9 oh goodness the cat likes variety! I have him locked in till further notice and today being the second day he's getting antsy:kittykiss: :rotfl:

Hello dear Meg Songlady I hope today proves to be better for you and you can rest and keep cool! It was a very stressful day yesterday for you and your Mom, especially with this unbearable heat and humidity. Your poor Mom and you, driving in traffic and stalling every time you stopped! No wonder you had body aches and pains. I'm hot even in the house with no A/C on our main floor, never mind in traffic on the black asphalt. It's great that your historic home has lots of stone to cool it off.

Your 9 week update is good! You are doing so much in the way of ADL - activities of daily living, which is what we all want to be able to do without a lot of pain. Being sore afterwards is normal for this stage. I would expect you to feel sore after the day you put in. You've come a long way, you're working, taking care of your Mom's needs, no doubt doing housework and cooking, errands. It's pretty near normal, sounds like.

I'm sorry about the job that you didn't get. Your husband makes a lot of sense, though, as usual. It will turn out for the best, I bet. You do have a church you play for now, at least, so you'll find something just right before long!

zauberflöte Your poor restless overweight kitty.:kittykiss: What will you do with him? If only the neighbors could feed their cat inside their house, your problem would be solved. Or how about, you don't feed him, and let them? He's bound to lose weight, and their bound to figure it out, and stop. I hope!

ByGosh please send some of your sunshine over here, it's been quite nice today here but not wall to wall sunshine by any means and at times I've been cold although hubby hasn't so that's probably just me!! Do people feed their animals outside over there? We've never done that but it'd be far too wet to do that here, we do however have cat flaps so our cat come and go as they please, do you use those? We had a cat years ago that would go next door through the cat flap and help herself to their cats food and their cat happily let her. :kittykiss:

Littlejem Yes it's hot hot hot here and humid, too. I wish you could take maybe 10 degrees of it so you could warm up and we could cool down!
I was chilly post-op all the time for the first 3 weeks, until I went off of my blood thinner medication, and started to move around a little. I laid on the couch and froze.
Some people do feed their animals outside, I guess. I wouldn't, but everyone is different. I don't have a cat, and the dogs live inside, so they're fed indoors. And yes, people do use the cat doors here. They seem to be very handy! Let's kitty come and go, like they must love to do, as they are so independent. :kittykiss:

ByGosh in our dreams! I talked with the home owner-- they can't feed the cat inside b/c ever since they got the BIG dog, the cat refuses to come in at all, poor thing, even in the winter. We have seen this cat at our house, ghosting around the cat door, it's a beautiful little thing. My cat has to have a special diet, and the stolen food is giving him colitis! They put out a whole one of those big red drink cups of kibbles every day-- no way my cat would lose weight-- at home he gets 5 oz (one can) canned food/day, period-- he will eat himself to death given the chance. So, until we build another cat corral, he's stuck inside. Purchase of 100 running feet of 48" chicken wire and a few dozen tall sturdy fence posts is on the to-do list..... oh yes, some plexiglass and a roll of duct tape too.

Do people feed their animals outside over there? We've never done that but it'd be far too wet to do that here, we do however have cat flaps so our cat come and go as they please, do you use those?
Littlejem we get plenty of rain too, especially recently, but a hungry cat will eat mushed up kibbles LOL. Many people do feed cats outdoors, there are at least two in my neighborhood. We have a couple of cat doors, genius works of custom design and engineering, each one LOL. Currently of course they are closed, so Mango and Jenny have to hit the jackpot to go in or out. Tango is the unlucky one. He's had two lap sessions today-- maybe he's coming out of his funk.

I was so cold for a couple of weeks too! I thought it was b/c it was chilly (comparatively) outside and in, and I was draped with ice-- so it was the blood thinners and maybe the extra low BP?

LeeApril26 100? Wow-- hotter than here! You poor things-- not a trace of a breeze, I'll bet. Do they still hose down the streets?

zauberflöte. We had monsoons for the first three weeks of June and now hot, humid with afternoon thunderstorms. Not quite 100 but the combo of high 90s and humidity are making for some serious heat warnings, and the poor kids are still in school, many w/o air conditioning. This is the last week. Once school closes on streets with lots of kids the fire dept hands out sprinkler caps for fire hydrants, to cool everyone off. In some areas they just open the hydrants w/p the caps, but that uses up so much water. Jumping in is fun!

I'm sorry about your poor housebound cat. Pretty sad for you neighbor's cat who can't go home, too. Building the cat coral sounds like a big project.
