Yes, Poppet, I do eat a lot of very natural yogurt. I was making it on a regular basis until a yearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
or so ago. (Sorry for the rrrr... that's where the cat stepped on the keyboard! :heehee: ) But once in while, I need Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream! lol Not very often.
Today was busy for me, a rehearsal for big music tomorrow, shopping for Father's Day with Songboy, and then... I accompanied Songman to go to my mom's apartment and clean in preparation for her homecoming on Monday! I did little things, dusted a few surfaces, changed the bed linens..... but I was POOPED when we got home for dinner.
I sneaked in a visit to Mom at the rehab mid-day (I know, I know, too much...) and got halfway there and realized I'd forgotten my cane! I did ok, although I walked with a wonky, side-to-side affect....and grabbed the blasted cane as soon as I got back home!!
I find that after I sit a spell, or when I get up in the night, I limp mightily and feel some pain when I step onto the op leg; but otherwise during the day I can be fine. I guess I should define this as glimmers of progress. OOOOOH, I am SOOOO impatient!!:hairpulling:

Songlady that is quite a day you had there.... I hope you get sufficient rest tonight :) All your dominos will fall in the correct order tomorrow and it will be wonderful! And I'm glad your mother gets to come home. She'll be happy....
Have a great Father's Day!! :)

SongLady, whatever you get try it out first at home...a body pillow isn't going to help that much I don't think. I am using one to elevate my left hip so I can sleep on my side a bit but if the bed is too hard your good side and back will still hurt. Something to top the mattress sounds like a must. If you talk with your relatives ahead of time they might even be able to scare up a loaner solution for you from someone local and spare you lugging a solution with you.
Glad you were able to get in the garden for a bit...I haven't made it yet, but there is nothing so healing as a bit of dirt under your nails and a happy new plant in the garden. I am very blessed that my hubby built raised beds for me so as soon as I can do the stairs to get down to the back yard I will be able to putter in the garden.

I love making yogurt... Like you don't have the time to do all the things I used to.. I prefer sorbet rather than ice cream ... Have a wonderful eBook, sitting there in my cloud waiting for time in retirement :)

So happy your mother gets to go home, Songlady. You sure did a lot that day, but I understand why you can't resist. Just try to sit down more frequently, of course with ice, and maybe that will enable you to maintain activities you want to tackle. I too sometimes walk side-to-side, or with a limp, when without the cane. And often it is when I first get up from sitting for a while. Then it straightens out. But mine is not a 100 percent limp free gait. Yes, glimmers of progress ... that's what it is. And we have to hang our hope on those glimmers. I hope today goes well ... as pain free as it can be. Am eager to hear about your mother's homecoming. That will raise everyone's spirits, I'm sure.

I guess I had my first real post-op sleep issue last night?! On a SATURDAY night?? Not good when I had to be ready to hop on the organ bench soon after 7:30 am this morning! (Unlike much of the world, Saturday night is always my Early To Bed night!) :mcoffee: I got into bed around 10 pm, read till 10:30.... listened to Songman go to sleep.... looked at the clock at 11:30, 12:15, 1:00, got up to go to the bathroom..... 2:00, 3:30... then I think I slept till my alarm went off at 6!
I wouldn't say I was in pain, but my muscles felt as if I needed to stretch them out, but then stretching them out didn't resolve the feeling? Maybe tension and overuse and whatever from my exhausting day.
So, go figure, I played especially well today (!!) and only hurt down the outside of the op leg, from stretching tendons or ligaments or whatever that, as my OS had explained to me, had not been stretched out since my hip had developed such limited ROM.
I shall have to spend time playing left-footed organ pedal exercises (yes, I do have books of those....like piano exercises, but for the feet.):groan:
Off to bed, as tomorrow has some marathon moments as well: dropping a car to be serviced, going to the eye doctor, and then to spring Mom from the rehab!
I seem to do OK with these occasional necessary marathons as long as I set aside a good amount of time to recover after (like, the rest of tomorrow, and most of Tuesday.....)! Goodnight, friends!

Songlady wow, that sounds like what I've been doing recently for sleep. Fall almost asleep, rouse to turn off the light and put the book down, lie awake for 2 hours LOL. Sigh. I hope you slept better last night, and that your car is all better, your eyes are strong, and your mom is Home Free!! We are waiting for her with hugs :)

LeeApril26 @zauberflöte @Kim22 @Peaches sandybeach @Liveringer @Littlejem @Elosarabrab @ByGosh nmscienceteacher Poppet and anyone else:
I am 8 weeks post-op today! I have pain in the op leg when I step on it only AFTER I've been sedentary for a long period or asleep (like at night.) Otherwise, there are the various moving aches of the back or the soft tissues of the legs as things realign and become reaccustomed to being used. This all feels familiar from my first hip and therefore is not worrisome.
I am sitting here and having a restorative cup of yogurt (Poppet, had to mention that! :) ) because the day has been TOO MUCH: Songman and I each drove 8 miles to drop off the better car to be serviced and some rattly thing diagnosed and fixed. Came home and I went to my last post-cataract surgery appointment with my ophthalmologist (that surgery was a month before the hip.) Lots of smiles and handshakes there. Then to the rehab.

Mom had two shopping bags of stuff: clothing, magazines, medications... She and her cane, me and my cane, and the bags.... we got into the little car (nicknamed "Old Rusty" by our corner mechanic....) and took off for her apartment. We got in, I unpacked and rehung her clothes, because she seemed a little overwhelmed: she'd left and it was the first of May! It must have felt as if she had been in a time warp....! I left and got a few more groceries for her, then sat and ate with her..... and now here I am, tired.

Sort of good news (?) was that Songman stayed home to work and wait for the Dryer repair guy, who was able to replace a whatever in the dryer, so it cost $120 instead of a whole new dryer.......:groan:

I have alerted my brother that he needs to stop my Mom's tonight and bring her yet another thing or two she thought of before I left. Whattaguy! He agreed.
Now for the recliner and ICE.....

Songlady, How are you today? It sounds like your day was exhausting. I hope you were able to rest up after all that. I am glad you got your Mother settled back at home.
It was good you got the dryer fixed but a shame about the cost. I used to have insurance on my washer and dryer so I was covered for repairs. If they go now they will have to be replaced.
It is strange how things break one after the other.
I had cataracts removed the year I turned 50. I didn't realise how bad my eyes were. I just thought my glasses were dirty all the time :heehee:

Songlady what a day! On top of Sunday... and yogurt was all you had Good girl! Congratulations on being done with cataract surgery too :)
Sounds like the Beverly Hillbillies theme song, you and mom moving back home. I hope she will settle in to the quiet, and the homey smells, and her own bathroom....
That's funny-- we recently had exactly that same repair on the dryer, a 20-yr-old, old fashioned model with no computer, thank goodness! We needed a "maintenance kit" which is the rollers and some accessories for installing it. I was happy to see it fixed-- it had been threatening to rattle and shake itself to the moon!
Let me guess-- your car had a loose heat shield....
How are you today, into the 9th week as you are :)

hi Elosarabrab, zauberflöte, ByGosh - Mom is doing OK. she admits that she was a bit overwhelmed yesterday, but she did manage to get herself some dinner (something from the freezer) and wash her dishes, etc, and today she feels really glad to be at home.
I sure was tired last evening and slept a bit later this morning! Today I am staying at home, though I've shuffled through a few things in my closet! Last hip, I really prepared everything, washed and put away my wool sweaters before my surgery, got clothes ready for the emerging Spring, but not this time. And warmed temps are probably here for the season now, so I had to find some lighter weight clothes!
The dryer is behaving today, hooray! :yay: and the car repair was minor, whew!
And, yes, Z, it WAS rather virtuous of me to have a yogurt when what I might have wanted was :martini:

Good for you Songlady You are a trooper! Wow, you got it all done and done right - first your Mom, and then the car, and the dryer, too. Boy, three major events in one day. Any one of those could have thrown another, less together, less strong person, for a loop. And here you are only 9 weeks post-op. Poster woman for hip replacement....Glad it's all over with and Mom is settled, the car didn't cost an arm and a leg, neither did the dryer, and everything is operational. Oh yes, and the cataracts are a thing of the past now, too. Another achievement.
Take it easy for the rest of the evening, you deserve a break.
The only thing I did was go to the pool and paddle around, and go to the foot dr. and get casted for new orthotics. Oh, yes, GoshGirl and I took the dogs up the block and back. Wow, did that feel like living! It's been awhile, the Prednisone must be helping. Let's pray it keeps up the good work and gets rid of whatever inflammation I have. I actually enjoyed taking a 10 min. walk :)

Elosarabrab, zauberflöte, Peaches, ByGosh, Poppet - Barbara, thanks for mentioning your cataracts! My vision really is better - what a pleasure! (and no excuses for wrong notes anymore! :rotfl: )
It's great to have the dryer again, especially since we're in a weather pattern with rain each afternoon. We got the clothes in off the line just before the rain today, but they needed to be finished in the dryer. Oh, goodness, scratch that!!!! While I wandered about, intermittently using and flailing my cane about in the air, Songman took in the clothes, separating those that needed 15 minutes in the dryer from those that were OK. And, of course, Mom's clothes were in the mix. :spin: I feel like: mom's illness, my surgery, Songman being at home to do any of this (after several decades of commuting 2 hours each way to work making for a 13 hour workday; so read this as Good but Different) - and then add in the mechanical issues of the dryer, the car, etc - it feels overwhelming sometimes, but isn't it really just LIFE?
ByGosh, I hope the prednisone gives your body a kick-start in healing! Surely the dog-walk gave your spirits a boost, and one thing does help another! And orthotics! Hard or soft? I had them once in a bout of plantar fascitis, and my podiatrist at the time had hard ones made for me. Later, my chiro said she recommends soft ones. Whatever! I believe they helped!

Yes, overwhelming Songlady But you're doing a fantastic job of it all! And it is LIFE, although it can get pretty tough at times.
I get the soft orthotics. I had the hard ones once and they were very difficult to get used to, too stiff, and actually made my leg muscles ache, if I remember correctly.
And I do, too, hope the Prednisone kick starts something that needs it! Thanks for your thoughts.:)

I'm sorry I am so behind, everyone. I am overwhelmed by all you ladies are doing and have to deal with.
Cataract surgery?? On top of everything else? I hear it's not as scary as it sounds, but still ... And Songlady's mother is home! Songlady, you and I are about the same in terms of time--I've got 8.5 weeks under my belt. Hearing you say that various aches and pains are normal makes me feel better. Some days they aren't so bad.
You do SO much more physically than I do, though. My hat is off to you. But please take it easy, if you can. I know that's easy for me to say.

Peaches - thanks. I wouldn't be doing half the stuff I am if I didn't have to right now! Yes, you are only 3 days ahead of me - I don't think I'd noticed! :friends:
ByGosh - I have a friend who has to take one of those prednisone packs every few years for virulent poison ivy! (She spends a lot of time in the woods on her horse.) Other than the fact that it makes her talk fast for a few days:heehee: she gets through with no after-effects.
Soft orthotics! Wow! I know I would love those....!

Songlady you're right, it's all life, and we have to do what we have to do, car, dryer, parents, kids, hips, anything.
I'm glad you got to sleep in! Love that feeling. And your mom doing well, dryer, car, it's all good!
ByGosh Yes, a prayer that the prednisone will do its thing very well and your inflammation will soon be a thing of the past :) You have suffered with this long enough!

Well, phooey. Once again I'm caught short and have to all it a night. Sleep well all :)

Hi Peaches, ByGosh, zauberflöte, LeeApril26, Littlejem, nmscienceteacher, Elosarabrab - We have had a perfect day, weather-wise, after several days of lots of rain (ZF: CT is 6 inches of rain above normal for this month!! ) And I have been incredibly cross! I think some of it is related to me work; although I've been good about being back minimally, I have been put upon. Grrr. And I've been worried about Mom being in her apartment; I've sensed her tentativeness. But today she called and good news! With the reassurance of a wonderful PT, she has taken a shower (with a shower chair) and with the PT walked the distance to the building's Dumpster - so she feels she can be fine again in her little place! Whew! (for the moment, anyway!)
Since I started writing this, Songman came home and I told him my troubles, and he helped me regain my perspective. Spouse, but also good friend. :friends:
So.... Songlady is back in a cheerful state! Anyone want to sing.....? :rotfl:

Songlady great news re your mom, at least for now, right? One day at a time...
Maybe tomorrow will be pretty here..-- ah yes, sunny, high 78! It is now 72, I cut the a/c off and opened the house up. Yipee! We will sing and be heard!
I'm so glad Songman could listen and help out, makes the end of the day nice. Tomorrow maybe you can address the problem.. :)
