THR second time easier (so far)

for 2 seconds I had a very prickly tingling in my thigh
zauberflöte Chris I had that same feeling around that time of my recovery, and when I had gone to my OS at the 6 week mark he said "Oh that is nothing, you are healing". This only happened to me a few times but it one thing I was not alarmed about as you said it only a couple of seconds.

Hi ladies (where are the men?) I am lucky, our local public sports centre has a hydrotherapy pool that I can use twice a week, slightly warmer than most swimming pools and only about 4'6'' deep. It is also free for over 60s - very handy. Just walking back and forward (as advised by a PT) really strengthens those "core muscles" and helps stop that penguin waddle! Otherwise, I can take the grandchildren into the "baby pool" which is also warmer than the big one. And here are all you Eastcoasters wanting cooler, not warmer:whistle:
The restless legs, etc. - I seem to remember a magnesium supplement being advised for that a while ago, or was that for cramp? Mushy brain strikes again!
Happy healing and remember the mantra - it works!
Anne

LeeApril26 ByGosh heh heh I forgot to count this morning:rotfl: I was only going to count steps up to 100, which shouldn't be so hard. And i know Songlady has a pedometer!!! LOL.

Liveringer I figured it was something like that, and since I'd heard of it here, I didn't worry at all. Isn't this place great, we learn so much that we have maybe only 10% of the "worrisome things" that people who haven't found here, have.

Nannyannie hey there! My YMCA has a therapy pool too, which I hope to be using very very soon! Even if it's like a sauna outside, the warmth feels good. I heat my water bed year round, and attribute some of my morning "pain-free-ness" here post-op to that gentle warmth.
I already take a hefty does of magnesium, and likewise can't remember if it addresses restless leg. Cramps, yes, it does.
Anne, I have to tell you that my "concierge nurse" recommended Vit C, carrot juice, and cilantro or parsley for the brain fog (these things help ferry anaesthetics and drugs on out the body). I started the Vit C immediately, and have also been drinking carrot juice. My parsley got too hot and bolted, so will have to wait on that. But I think I am noticing a difference in my brains! May be totally placebo, but it's kinda nice anyway.

Hello Nannyannie and Songlady and zauberflöte Nannyannie - I've thought of that myself, that there are so many more ladies on this forum than there are men. Must have something to do with how we differ - the whole woman like to communicate more, are more open, express their feelings more, that kind of thing. I sort of like talking to the girls - I'm a little more 'shy' about being as open about certain things with the guys around - like our prune juice needs, for one! (although they have the same needs, ala Clifford149, if I'm remembering correctly!)

The warm water must feel so good in the pool. I enjoy my hot shower - it does help relieve the pain.

Carrot juice is delicious, isn't it? I haven't had it in quite awhile. I'll have to include that one on the shopping list. I know carrots are very healthy in general, and I haven't been eating them lately, so it'll be good to have the juice.

Hi ByGosh, zauberflöte, Littlejem, Liveringer, LeeApril26, Nannyannie - I loved my Elmore sample and will likely order a bottle before the marathon trip to North Carolina! (Like, order it today!! )
My bed topper arrived today and is airing in our living room. We don't use that room much except for my piano teaching, occasional entertaining and of course that Living Room Concert - :egypdance: so I an leave it there to air. The cats are shut out of that room, so the pad won't gather fur. (If I knew it wouldn't rain I'd put it outdoors!)
Songman had said to just get a twin size and he'd hang on the edge or whatever, since we'll be on several different size beds on our Southern tour.
We took my bicycle to have a tune up today! No... wrong kind of tune-up. Ho well. It will be done while we're in NC, so MAYBE I can try riding it a little when we get back.....?
In a few days I'm off to an organists' convention for three days. I'm concerned about the amount of activity this kind of thing demands, and I'm prepared to sit out some events. (You can bet the pedometer is going with me!!) Then I'm home for 2 days and we take off on the car trip to see my in-laws! I'll have the little tablet with its legendary autocorrect, so I will check in as best I can! I'm missing you all already, and I'm not going anywhere for days yet!!

Songlady Oh, wow. You are going to be on the move, geographically and physically. I don't know if the organist conventions are like the ones I've attended, but I have walked miles in some of those hotels. Keep us posted on the walking/energy level if you can. I intend to search for my pedometer tonight. Wish I'd had it today, as I did a lot of stuff.
Does your new mattress topper smell like chemicals? That is one of my pet peeves. They make stuff and quickly wrap it in plastic, and then when you open it, UGH. Hope it airs out before you need it. Have funny image of Songman clinging to side of bed.
It will be so nice for you to see different places after all this recovery stuff. I was euphoric on that first trip to my friend's country house, just because it was not my house, which I was thoroughly sick of by then.

Hi LeeApril26 - Yes, I have that image of Songman, too! The pad doesn't smell too much, but that's why I have it airing. It came rolled up in a canvas bag! Nifty! I'll report on it.
I am VERY concerned about the amount of schlepping at the Convention. But I have some funding from the organization I belong to, so I will pay for the shuttle bus, etc. to help. And I will know, literally, hundreds of people there, so I'm sure some of them will have cars! It'll be interesting.....!

Songlady cool, your topper came! I fear cat claws more than fur-- best to just lock them out, as you did LOL. Yours came in a canvas bag!! Wow. Mine came in a little cube box about 18" on a side, and when I opened the box, the thing just exploded out! I would never ever get it back into that box...

the more I walk the more I am able to walk,
LeeApril26 I think I'm having one of those stages too! Tonight i walked farther than last night, which was farther than the night before-- and they all felt good. Let's keep it up! BTW both of you, I count 47 steps from my kitchen to my bathroom, so I'd say I'm close to 100 steps by breakfast time too! I think usually by breakfast I've made 2 1/2 round trips...so, should i get a pedometer? heh heh heh

ByGosh, zauberflöte, Littlejem, Liveringer, LeeApril26, Nannyannie, Poppet, Peaches I've had aches all day! I can't quite figure it out; I think I've been doing a little less than often. But I did have along and tense sitting session and conversation last evening. :groan: Ho well. In terms of having talking about staircases and "toddler-style" walking, I wanted to post a photo of ours, the staircase up to where the bedrooms are. I will try...

Ohhhh, rats! The file is too large. I miss my old computer, where the pics were the right size. I guess photos will have to wait for Songboy to be home (and recovered from camp!!) grrr.
How has the week been, in general? Peaches, how are you? Another work week finished....!

Songlady. Today my PT escorted me down four flights of stairs because the elevator went out while I was there. I showed her my attempt to walk down stairs normally. She said she preferred my going down toddler style until I could keep my hips straight and had proper control of my leg, rather than develop odd adaptations. Thought it might be relevant. Will await SongCamper's return for photo.
Sorry you are having aches. Long tense conversations are difficult physiically, it seems. just sitting for too long is difficult, let alone the tension. Can you rest a bit before you leave?

Thanks, Poppet! I will pack some ice, at least, in my cooler bag! (Seems better than heat right now.)
LeeApril26 - Lenora, what would I do without you??? As come down the stairs tomorrow I will be very attentive to whether I walk straight, twist and turn, etc.!
I plan to have a relaxation day tomorrow, whether it is lying about reading or being out a bit - but no long tense discussions!!
Thanks, friends! :friends:

Songlady I have a PT app't on Tuesday, and then I am taking a two week break, so I won't have any PT advice for a while. I want to walk on land and in the pool, and see if my right (good?) side will calm down. I ache from neck to knees. a combo from the cane and maybe exercise. We'll see.

Hope you have an easy time going down. I could see why she was concerned, once she pointed out that I was swinging my op hip and leg forward.

Glad you will have a chance to read/rest tomorrow. If you come across a good book, please pass the info on. I need a new one.

Must have brain fog... Did someone tag me about the properties of Tea tree oil ? Can't find the tag :)

Here it is...

One of the reasons why tea tree oil is such a great remedy for so many different ailments is due to the fact that it has the 'three A's: antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial.... In fact in World War II soldiers were issued with a bottle in their first aid kits!

Very sorry about the aches, Songlady & LeeApril26! Trying to find "the rhyme or reason" is maddening. I still have aches sometimes; or soreness. I expect to have them for a while. But they go away for spells, too. So it seems recovery is as erratic as pre-op life was. Only recovery's aches and soreness seem manageable and part of healing. But yes, stressful conversations and "scenes" surely makes us tense up all over and tax our various muscles even more than they are taxed from surgery and trying to regulate themselves.

I am very far behind, as work life continues to intrude on bonesmart life. It makes me sad. I think of everyone here and worry and wonder about you. LeeApril26, has your PT addressed why your good side aches so much? Can PTs ever be wrong, or do we have to take everything they say as the gospel? I'm so glad you had help going down the four flights of stairs. That's scary.

Peaches. I know PTs can be wrong. The first one I went to in '95 for my knees made me worse. I was crying going down subway stairs, and hadn't been when I started PT. finally figured out it was her, not me, and switched, This time, except for occasional over-enthusiasm, I seem to have a good one. sometimes, when she says " three sets" I respond, firmly, "two today." I have found her analysis of body mechanics to be pretty useful. But, I don't want to overdo stuff while our son and his wife are visiting. We will be hosting a family gathering on Sunday (at a restaurant) and have loads of company during the week. I plan to follow Songlady 's cooking directions: pizza on speed dial, and open the wine, but it will still be a lot of work.
