What a great song...and so evocative of our nightly bonesmart journey! Do you ever just stop, shake your head and ponder how much technology has changed the world of music in the last few decades? What a fun evening for you. I bet it was worth every bit of the tiredness it induced.
Send me some of your rain will you please. Close to 100 with verge bomb storms that cause high gusts to rush at the ground. We had major parts of the city without power today as a result of a down blast that took out a major transmission line last night. I honestly don't remember the last rain storm we had here. So far we have only had a trace of rain this year.

ByGosh, apparently there are some musicians who do this these days: a tour of living room shows! She had posted that she was doing one in the NE, and Songboy had asked if we could maybe host. I sat on that awhile, knowing the surgery was coming up, etc (all this was in... February?) and we (I) sent an email saying we could host... so when they put together the itinerary, they wrote and asked if we could do xx date. She did someplace in Maine the night before and in PA tonight! What a neat venue: intimate, a chance for a real singer/audience connection.
Songboy got called into work today, so I haven't even seen him since last evening to debrief!
I will say, as much as I did nothing except answer the door some.... I was TIRED today! I took a nap at 10:30 am in my recliner!!  :heehee:

nmscienceteacher - and then we had a few torrential downpours today! The weather is sure weird. I will try to send some your way!
I was certainly tired today, but indeed it was worth it! I have very few "musts" for the rest of the week, so I plan to rest up! I made a good start on that today. :loll:

Wow, Songlady! I just caught up with your thread and have decided I am a slacker. Love the music. I didn't know Julia Nunes' work, but now I do, a little, so thank you. Read it first on the Social thread and decided to update myself. You have many musical talents. The bell concerts must be wonderful.

I'm really glad you are re-entering your life. Just don't forget your new best friend: ICE!

Good morning, Songlady: It's 4 a.m. and I woke up too early. Sigh. I took a peek at bonesmart & saw your video of Julia Nunes and really loved it. I wish I could have been at your living room concert! I hope you are not too tired from it. I admire how much you are able to do AND how much you actually do. Thank you for the continued inspiration. And now I know whoJulia Nunes is. Loved the video and laughed outloud. Back to bed now for an attempt at an hour more of shut-eye.

LeeApril26 - you are not a slacker! Goodness, you even went away for a few days last week! And as much as that might have been R&R, I think it takes extra energy to be away from home, so I think you are amazing!
I must admit, I am still some tired from my weekend (including through Monday for the concert.) But I really am taking it pretty easy this week! And, yes, my new friend ice! lol
Peaches - I really didn't have to do much for this concert. My husband and son moved furniture, prior, and put chairs for the performers, got glasses of water for them. I did have to go from my chair to the door a few times, and then afterward I stood for several minutes to say goodbye to people.... but that's all, really.
That being said, let me say I would NOT have done this except that she is one of Songboy's very favorite musicians, and it meant SO much to him for us to host this!
Isn't that song a great one for us hippies? A BS Theme song? How appropriate to listen to it during a middle of night waking spell!:rotfl: I hope you were able to get some more sleep!

Songlady. I think opening your home was a lovely thing to do. I'm sure SongBoy was delighted.. He sounds like such a nice kid, and it's great that he shares your love of music. Having people over is fun but the social interactions during recovery seem tiring to me. I had my book group over for the first time right before we went away, and though I loved it, I was exhausted.i've always liked heating pads better than ice, but since the surgery it really does the job.

Songlady and everybody else who's disappeared from my view--
What a wonderful thing, and now I know the answers to all the questions I asked in Social where I first saw the concert pic. I'm glad you are resting this week. Just practise a little, to keep the feet in line LOL. Or maybe not-- who knows-- maybe they will become aligned correctly if you even do nothing! One can hope...

Hey zauberflöte, what do you mean, disappeared.....?
I had a lunch meeting today. It wasn't the best meeting I've ever lead... but the lunch part, I got down just fine! :rotfl: And then I taught my wonderful young student who just turned 9 yesterday! He's so smart and talented, it's such fun!
And otherwise I have not done a lot. Not practicing the organ, and (rolls eyes) the feet are always the first thing to go! Ho well. I'm choosing fairly easy pieces these days, pedal-wise!
How goes it with you?

I need your great ideas. We will be driving to see Songman's parents in 3-4 more weeks (and no doubt I'll write more about that at some point.) On the way home we are going to stay with wonderful relatives..... and the bed they have for us is HARD. It's a stiff mattress on a waterbed frame. I don't know about all of you, but I am really appreciating cushioning when I sleep these days. Any ideas? It would be a bit awkward to walk in with a full-sized mattress topper....Should I go buy one of those Body Pillows? Anyone? The bed at my in-laws is hard enough that usually my back aches all week, also, come to think about it.... but that other one is like sleeping on the floor. Any ideas are welcome, while I still have some time to look into/buy whatever might be helpful! Thanks!

Hi, Songlady: Gosh, that is a tough one. I haven't used a body pillow, but am wondering how that would help. You lie against it, right? Thus you would still be lying on part of the hard mattress. I just now Googled "portable mattress topper" and came up with a page full of hits, including one item at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. It says it inflates quickly and you can take it on the road. So maybe you should spend the money for something like this . If it's "portable," it probably is enclosed within a carry-all/bag type of thing, so it wouldn't be all that awkward to bring with you. You can tell the in-laws that your surgeon said you MUST sleep on something like this. "Surgeon's orders." I hope some of the others can either corroborate this idea or maybe will have a better one. Let us know what happens. Good luck!

Songlady I agree with Peaches -bring a mattress topper-Overstock.com also has loads of them, including a gel topper that doesn't look all that awkward to carry. And, also agree about "surgeon's orders." Other than my husband and kids, I did not want visitors in the hospital, so my husband said, "no visitors, doctors orders." It's a small lie and will prevent you having a week of pain.

Songlady I'd definitely go with a mattress topper, I'm sure they wouldn't want you to be in pain or to even be worried about upsetting them. Just tell them you are still very tender and will need to sleep on this topper for the forseeable future, they'll understand. :)

Songlady, definitely go with a memory foam topper.. Explain the risks to your in-laws, they will understand and a body pillow sounds heavenly.. I use a memory foam pillow every night whenI lay on my un operated side.. Kind of got used to it from the early post of days..

Go shopping honey.. Memory foam, just what you need, hugs xx

Hey zauberflöte, what do you mean, disappeared.....?
the long list of tags that I forgot to copy before I turned the page, and I'm so lazy I will not type them by hand:heehee:

@Songlady

Memory foam is lovely, I have one that I used for all of two days. But it weighs a TON. Mine is three inches of medium viscosity, and weighs possibly 17-20 lbs-- for a twin size. I would say, 3" thick is the minimum-- it compacts a lot when you put weight on it. Once you unpack it, it is not easy (impossible?) to ever get into a small place again, I'd think. So you could throw somebody's back out just lugging it around, unless it had its own wheeled suitcase. Gel might be even heavier?
Another option, which i have used for myself for at least 10 years and LOVE, is a nice air mattress. They do come in double, I think, or you can get a queen, or a twin and not share LOL. LLBean sells a good one, Target and the like sell both the decent and the cheap. You do get what you pay for...
As to explaining, I say that I need something softer, and leave it at that. They will think you're cuckoo for about 3 minutes and then forget it :)
Am I the only person who's had trouble with hard beds since childhood??? I've always needed a good foam rubber, or a water bed/"flotation system" as they call them recently.

zauberflöte, Songboy slept on an air mattress the whole time he lived in his apartment (he moved back a few weeks before my surgery.) Hmmm. I'm still weighing options and discussing with Songman.
I have always really disliked hard mattresses, too! I always hurt when I sleep on them!

Ye olde back spasm is speaking up some, late afternoon. Hmm, might that be because I actually GARDENED for 10 minutes today? I planted 2 basil plants and a rosemary I received from my summer farmshare last week! I used a light but longhandled shovel, so I hardly bent at all......

Hi Elosarabrab, yes, probably. And I was really feeling stuff and sore and a bit of muscles spasm.... and my husband and I walked up the street. At first I was thinking that the walk was ill-advised, because of the way I felt, but halfway up the block, I started to feel great! So maybe I worked out the kinks! Thanks for asking.
(And even better, we walked up the street to an ice cream shop! )

Songlady yeah right, 2 little basil plants....I'm glad the walk (or was it the ice cream?) may have fixed things! I had one of those days too. I didn't sleep for squat last night, so was particularly ornery when I finally was dragged out of the only real sleep I was getting, at 7:15am by a call from older ZK. So it took me till 5:00 to feel alive. And then the hip started in. The "good" hip! I feel kind of like I went hiking, then sat in the car for a long ride home. One muscle is overused, and I'm trying to figure out what exercise did it. Anyway, IF I sleep tonight, I will be fine tomorrow I think. I have sat on the couch, feet up, ice on, for most of the day. One tiny walk to meet the ice cream truck (!), and NO PT!
Ice cream rules.
