THR Second one - hope it's better than the first

Hi @Kazann
I don't know that I'd care to hear my hip was going to be difficult to dislocate BEFORE my surgery.
Wouldn't care to have that visual. Too bad your OS couldn't have saved that info for AFTER surgery.

Let us know how sitting cross legged works out when you try.
Sounds like one of those milestones we all want to reach.
A great week to you!

sitting crossed legged!
This member achieved that well!

As for your wound, the lumpy areas are caused by the internal sutures. It's obvious (to me) that the surgeon pulled a few of them too tight resulting in those hills and valleys. You may find that in a a few more weeks, probably around 6-10, you might be aware of something giving way just there and the nipped in bits will give way. That will be the internal sutures breaking up as they are absorbent.
there is a scabby bit in the middle
Looks fine to me. Those things happen I'm afraid.
bottom half looks like the wound is pulling apart?
Nope, can't see that either. It all looks like a very good, very sound wound. Pretty good for only 3½ weeks out!

Hi Bevlah. Coming up on one month! Hope you are doing well and staying upbeat. This is about the time I was really getting weary of all the recovery stuff and felt alot of post op blahs.
I had some bumpy pulling parts going on with incision healing, but after some months mostly smoothed out. Still some places, but all in all okay.
Hope you have a peaceful day!

@Mojo333 hi thanks for checking up on me! Yes 4 weeks today!!! Scar still very sore and swollen which is to be expected. It's funny what you said about how you felt at this time, I feel the same!! Just reading the latest hippies recoveries and they all seem to be doing so well and I feel that I am not. I know what you are thinking...... It's still early days etc but I am back to work full time in 2 weeks and still struggling to walk without a crutch! Going to concentrate today on walking around the house without one to build up my strength. I can do it but I have such a wobbly gate and really lean to the right. I don't want to keep this habit so if I shuffle I can walk straight. I will do it! There are some sad stories on the forum at the moment so I know I am better off than some so will stop feeling sorry for myself!

Okay for practicing some no cane walking, but I had to bring mine along for the ride. For stability, and sometimes I used and sometimes not. I went back too early, out of necessity, but had five hour days.
Really, what would probably be helpful is to take advantage of these next weeks to rest it all you can.
I know, I know...but that IS what they need. Your leg isn't weak, it's injured !
You are doing very well so do NOT get into the mindset of comparing yourself to others.
You had issues others didn't have and that energy drain is killer when you DO go back.
Take it easy...aggravating it won't help you recover faster.
If you go back to work with cane, it will remind folks you are less than 2 months out from THR, and elicit some help and tolerance for you.
I had to ice while at work...and cut things short a few days

@Mojo333 thank you for the reassurance and advice. You are so right I do need to rest and if I go back to work with the cane then I may illicit some sympathy!! I am seeing my doc a couple of days before I go back to see if I am fully ready for full time (including Saturdays) and if not I can get signed off for part time fazed back to work. My job is lettings so I am in and out of the office and car visiting properties so it's quite a physical job. Thanks again and hope you have a lovely day

Would definitely advise part time for a couple of weeks if you can @Bevlah. As an employer, I would rather have someone back who can give the solid part time hours to begin with than someone who is far less than full time in their ability and just puts the time in. Good luck in transitioning to cane. That is a big step forward.

@Bevlah I would not recommend you push this getting off your crutch. You need to be totally confident and steady before you give up any walking aid.

Do you really have to go back to work so soon? At only 6 weeks out that is very early especially if you are still needing your crutch. The recommended time off post THR is 10 - 12 weeks and then a phased return.

@Jaycey hi I only have a 6 week sick note from the hospital. Also I only get paid for 12 weeks full time sick pay for the year and it looks like they will do the other one soon. I also get office commission so am already down £550 a month anyway!!! My health men's more than the money so will listen to your advice and ask my doctor if he can issue another sick note for the phase return.
@MammaT how are your lovely lady? You seem to be doing really well which is great news!

I've read everyone's posts with great interest and the more I read the more I come to appreciate there is NO 'normal' post hip replacement recovery. We are all different, even if we've glad the same procedure. I think @Mojo333 is spot on when advising not trying to compare your own recovery to others. We are travelling the same journey, but we all get there at our own speed. Keep well everyone.

Can’t complain much @Bevlah. A little sore and stiff and some swelling. All to be expected. Pain is well managed. Had shower, visit for pt and home health so that’s like a days work. Watching that I don’t overdo things since pain is not major. Feel a nap coming on.

Hope you get work situation sorted out. Pushing return doesn’t help if you have to go back off due to set back.

Hi @Bevlah,
Sounds like you're doing well. Coming up on one month already!
It would be great if you're able to get more time off work...especially because you've described it as physical.
Hope your practice sessions with the cane today went well today. Practice makes perfect!
A great weekend to you!

@Bevlah hope you are improving a bit now seems your surgery may have been a little more complex than some have you had a date for other one yet must admit having one new good one and a bad old one does give an awkward gait not quite sure which side to favour or which to take weight off so all a bit lopsided at the moment have you managed to drive yet ? Just out of intrest do you know a pub down your way think it is in Saltash called the Crocked house I think has a courtyard full of animals !? Hope your weekend is going ok .

Crooked Inn not house just realised it sounds a bit like all of us lot :heehee:

@mcopt hi lovey. Mmmm is taking it's time this flipping recovery!! I don't think I thought it through how difficult it would all be!!! Not driving yet I am afraid. I still can't go up the stairs leading with the "bad" leg. I put that in commas as let's be honest they're both bad!! I just don't seem to have much strength in it so I wouldn't be able to brake. Hey ho enjoying being a princess and being taxi'd around!! Yes I know the crooked Inn as we rented a house just around the corner from it. Never been inside but it always looked lovely from the outside. My boss called me on Friday to ask when I am coming back to work? Told him I may go part time to start with and he seemed to be ok with that!!! Result....off to Cambridge on Thursday for a few days visiting family. Soooo excited to get out of my prison but also a bit nervous as I still can't walk that far and still not really drinking and I have a reputation to uphold!! Hope all is well with your recovery which seems to be going really well, so happy for you! So sorry about your Mum my lovely, I can't imagine how awful it must be for you. Take care

@mcopt my work rented the house near the pub not me, as I would definitely have frequented it if I lived near!! No date for the other one yet.

So sorry your recovery is slow it does seem your surgery with pelvic reconstruction was quite complex sounds best to ease yourself back into work I am planning to go back a week on Monday but late starts and early finish you do start to feel trapped luckily I am ok driving now. Sounds like a break away will do you good nice place Cambridge although the only time I have been there was to take exams ! Must go back and visit one day . A group of us used to stay at the Croocked inn about 15 years ago it was a base for motor cycle green lane weekends had some great times riding around the beautiful Devon and Cornwall coastlines on trail bikes followed by the odd pint or 6 at the inn food was always good there straightforward but good. Haven't touched a drop myself since new years eve almost scared to now ! Have a good weekend I am sure you will start to turn some corners soon and rhis will all be history

I enjoyed visiting Cambridge. We mainly went to the market area, but a lovely town.

Hi @Bevlah
I was a little hesitant to drive myself for several days after I was released to.
Surprised myself because all I wanted to hear was that I could drive again!
I practiced in our neighborhood first making sure I was comfortable hitting the
brake then ventured out into traffic for a very short distance. Felt like I was a teen
again, lol!

It sounds like your boss is flexible which will make for an easier phased
return to work. That's a positive.
Enjoy your trip later this week. A great Sunday to you!
