THR Second one - hope it's better than the first

They are very popular here in the states, a bit higher quality than the the normal stuff here. Certainly not at the level of the Swiss and Belgium chocolates you have access to, but one of my favorite treats that I typically only get at holidays ( I almost never eat candy or sweets).

Getting dressed can be exhausting @Bevlah- very smart dressing ahead of time so you can rest before going out! That was part of the day I forgot to factor in to my energy level in early days-needs to be taken into account when deciding to return to work, it’s not just the actual work, but the getting ready to get there and back home!

Have a good day-more achievements to come.

Yeah for getting those staples gone.
Those incisions can be scary looking...mine were!
Battle scars.
Now let's win the war.
Stay on your slow and easy path...it's what you need right now.
You are doing great, Bevlah.
Are you going to join us for the Joint Replacement Awareness Day?
Hope you registered.
Will be interesting to see all those resources in one place and what the interaction looks like.
It's a first for all of us at Bonesmart.
Really hope it is a success so that this forum can continue to provide the kind of information and support I received.

Great!
Thanks so much for registering.
The program is still in the planning stages but th
e 4-6 hour conference will be broadcast from a studio in San Diego, California on April 14th. It will be timed to allow maximum participation from people around the world!
There will be a series of presentations (usually 10-15 minutes each) by experienced orthopedic surgeons on a wide variety of pre and post op topics.
Topics such as:
* What happens during surgery?
* How can technology help with joint replacement?
* Customized joint replacements
* Minimizing the risk of infection
* Importance of physical therapy and nutrition
There are also 3 separate panel discussions planned where surgeons, nurses and patients will give their perspectives to questions and topics, some of which have been submitted by people when they registered.

Because we are still working on the program content, this list is not final but we expect to have approximately 20 different topics covered during the presentations.

On the day of the conference, you will be given instructions to log in to the conference, so that part of the process should be easy.

This will be a first for all of us, but I'm glad you still be a part!
Hope your day is peaceful!

Help...... Has anyone else had problems post op with their smell and taste? Food taste likes cardboard and all I can eat is fruit and yoghurts. Just like I did when I was pregnant!! My smell though is hyper sensitive. I have just had a shower and the soap on my skin is smelling really strong and is making me feel really sick. It's seriously like being pregnant and I was like that all 9 months of both of my pregnancies and I am not happy about feeling the same way now! I can't stand smelling perfume and even the freezer to get ice, smells really strong. Strange......

I'm not sure I had the strong smell thing going on...but definitely my sense of taste was affected by my surgery for months. All DID taste like cardboard and really had no appetite and had to remember to eat. Grapes were my go to food.
Red, green...my DH brought all he could find as I could shoot and nibble on them easily.
I remember when I was pregnant certain common smells like toothpaste were extremely unpleasant to me.
Guessing most likely medication influences?
Maybe a light fan blowing on you might keep it away from your nose?

@Mojo333 always the one with a reply my favourite! Grapes I eat loads!!! Anything that's wet and sweet but savoury is hard to swallow. Did have a jacket potato with cheese last night which went down a treat. But the smells.... Whilst I am typing this I am overwhelmed with the smell of my soap, deodorant and hair product! Just went into the kitchen and there is a weird smell in there!! Every room has its own smell and all are unpleasant. I am just on Paracetamol now as I thought the meds were the problem? Honestly it's just like being pregnant! I do hope they put in a new hip and not anything else.........god forbid!!! Anyway any ideas the lovely @Josephine

I also had the taste thing. Surgery just seems to mess up our system for awhile.

Wow, that's an odd one to me. Wondering if you're getting a cold, or sinus issue?
I'll be curious to what Jo has to say about that...

Wishing things start smelling like sugar and spice and all things nice....
Just like you @Bevlah

Sending some BoneSmart love your way and hoping your weekend is great!
Big hugs to you :loveshwr:

@Bevlah this could be a side effect of your pain meds. What are you taking for pain management (including how much and how often).

@Bevlah YES on the smells! I even had the humidifier in the bedroom turned off because I thought the air smelled stale. Actually, it was worse than that as I contacted the humidifier company on Wednesday because I thought something was wrong with it and it was blowing out moldy mist! My husband, my sister couldn't smell anything!

Hoping this will pass quickly as I am missing my beloved humidifier. Although we have snow, we are in the high desert and it's dry here.

Hi @Jaycey only on Paracetamol now so it's not the meds. I did Google it and it seems I am not alone!

@Poodles oh poor you but I know what you mean. Even a glass of water smells like a drain! It's mainly perfume that's really getting to me. I am getting my partner to get non perfumed products tomorrow to see if that helps. Had chicken pasta the other night and couldn't eat it. Turns out it had tarragon in it which is quite perfumy. Seriously if it's rare, i will suffer from it. Going to leave my body to medical science but not sure they will want it!!!! I think it may be hormonal seeing as it's exactly the same as my pregnancies? I really hope it passes soon......

@Bevlah Gary, my husband, asked if I would consider trying the humidifier over the weekend. I told him I contacted the company to ask about the stale air smell, and he dropped the subject. That was about an hour ago.

I don't think you're odd! But let's hope this malady goes away! It's going to get awkward for me at some point. LOL, I was so happy to see your post! I didn't feel so alone!

And you are getting chicken pasta? I shouldn't complain, but I wanna come to your house for dinner. Gary is NOT much of a cook. Tonight he is making taco salad, which is his specialty. I think his lack of cooking experience is getting to him, too. Tomorrow he is bringing home take out. Whatever I want he said he would get. Hallelujah! We live in a year-round resort town. We have restaurants EVERYWHERE to handle the tourists, so I think tomorrow I will be very happy!

@Poodles if it's any consolation I couldn't eat the pasta!! Ah bless Gary he is trying...... I just hope it passes soon as it's not really helping my recovery and is making me pretty miserable as it did when I was pregnant in the day!!! Lucky me I am due the other hip after my recovery for this one! To make matters worse I am not even losing weight!!!! All sent to try us

@Poodles - believe me, I fully understand the minimal cooking repertoire. My caregiver (after both of my THR last year) was my 16 year old son. He tried, but I basically had the choice most nights between a PB&J, eggs or similar items or takeout (and his preference was running up to the McDonald's or Taco Bell). Even when he fixed salmon or steak, I had to get up and go into the kitchen to check the doneness. Definitely led to me taking over the cooking duties as quickly as I could!

I am just on Paracetamol now as I thought the meds were the problem?
I've never known paracetamol to be guilty of this. Read here - you'll see no mention of it.
I always use Drugs.com as they give such excellent information.

I do hope they put in a new hip and not anything else
I'm not quite sure I understand this comment!

Yes, it does @Poodles but it doesn't really fit my low carb diet! Too much taco bell, chocolate, ice cream and other comfort foods after surgery (ok, even in the couple of weeks before surgery) had me undoing some of my weight loss after first THR. Had to lose that weight all over again!

ARE you pregnant, Bevlah?
If this new super power doesn't go away, maybe you can utilize it to sniff out drugs or gas leaks...

Just making light of what is I'm sure very aggravating situation.
I'm guessing all will ease soon.
I didn't want anything savory either...fruit was my go to. Plus helped with constipation issues as that was a very bad situation for me.
