@shrinkette I love reading your posts/thread. So wishing you best of luck as the day nears.
I haven't started a thread yet really, as mine won't be til April. But, I enjoy reading everyone elses and offering up my support.

@shrinkette , the whole reason this site was created was just what you referred to - talking to others about this process. It has actually been researched and trialled - educated patients do find recovery easier. You know what to expect and have a ready resource of information.

Ramble on all you want! I think you will find it has a calming effect.

@shrinkette Ellen, I hope you enjoyed a little alone time the other day. I remember you saying you were looking forward to it. Hoping you're doing okay and staying calm (or as calm as possible) in these last few days!! By this next weekend you'll be on the other side. Looking forward to following your recovery as you'll be just day send of me. I'm to 10 days and counting. Take care, get some rest, and it will all be over soon!

@karisa7174 Hi, Lisa! Thanks for asking. I did enjoy my alone time. Hubby & daughter enjoyed the theatre & I enjoyed the solitude. Because we have a season theatre subscription, our tickets would've been for two days following surgery, so I exchanged them for yesterday. We have great orchestra seats normally, but for yesterday I paid $75 MORE (!!!) for "club seats" which, as it turned out, provided free booze, hors d'oeuvres & other goodies. I don't drink, so it would've been lost on me. They did have a nice time & then walked around Ft. Lauderdale's riverfront.

But anyway, I've been so wrapped up in myself I haven't asked how YOU'RE doing! It's getting close, girl. Today I did my last bit of filing & paperwork, hubby will do some laundry during the week, & I will get stuff together for hosp. One last good dinner out somewhere, too! Lisa -- it's almost over!!!

Thinking of you ellen. Glad you say you have your ipad by your side. You know I will be watching:) I know you will do awsome:yay:

@shrinkette Ellen, thanks for asking!! I am getting really anxious but at the same time feeling really confident about the decision I've made. Sounds conflicting, huh? Wish I could sleep as good as good as my dog!

Glad things are going well for you. I've got so many things I need to finish but instead I'm sitting here on my IPad and watching tv. And I've got a scrapbooking weekend coming up this weekend I need to get ready for. But instead I think I'm going to sleep!

:dancy:@shrinkette Ellen it is hard to believe we are on the downhill slope. I will be sending prayers your way for an uneventful surgery and recovery! And I will be checking in this week before you move to the recovery side!

@shrinkette thanks! I think so! I'll miss her when I'm recovering. My dad is going to keep her for a few weeks so I don't have to try and take her out, especially since it will probably be snowy. She is used to going to my dads, I call it shared parenting. . But never for more than a week (2 at most). He may keep her for a month or more this time just because I know it will be hard to reach down and hook up the leash.

THERE IS A FLY IN THE OINTMENT!! Got a call today from OS office asking whether I had had a UA done as part of pre-op exam, because they got everything else but that. Told her I did. She said she was calling my GP to follow up. I then called myself & was told by GP's assistant that results had just come in, were positive for a UTI, & that she couldn't fax this report to surgeon without it first being seen by GP who would prescribe antibiotic had already left for the day.

Called surgeon's nurse to tell her & said, "I hope this will not delay surgery!" She said that I would be on the AB for 3 days before surgery on Friday & that she'd have to see what OS says. Said "he may not want to go ahead with surgery if there is an active infection." Said she may not have an answer until Wednesday... didn't know when she'd be speaking to him (I guess because he has another office).

And I've stopped the Coumadin as of last Thursday and begun 4 days of Lovenox shots today. What is usually done in these cases? Funny enough, same thing happened prior to my TKR, but I had a whole week to be on AB. What do you think? @Josephine, what's your feeling? Kind of upset as you can imagine I've been busy gearing up.

Ellen

I was do afraid of something like this as I had to do blood work just one day before surgery - hope it all works out for the scheduled day! It's horrible to be ready and then have to change everything

@shrinkette Ellen, good grief.... I hope you get the 'it'll be ok' on this. I had been wondering what a UA meant, but I know what a UTI is, so assume it is a U analysis? curious..... what kind of things will I have to test before I pass? This is not in my prelim packet.

You're correct: UA = urinalysis

I had to have chest x-ray, blood work incl CBC, kidney function, sugar, & blood clotting rates (because I'm normally on Coumadin), EKG, echocardiogram (because I had a valve replaced 17 years ago), & just general look-over. Just don't know what OS is gonna say. Of course, it's totally his call & I will not pressure him. Btw, I had no symptoms of a UTI. Grrrrr!!!

I needed all the same things except echocardiogram. I think EKG depends on your age. And I think they do blood clotting on everyone.

I had similar to Ellen, chest X-Ray, EKG, bloodwork, urinalyis, and MRSA swab.

@shrinkette I hope everything works out and you can keep your date. Will be sending prayers up for you. Hang in there Ellen.

I would think the UTI must be very low grade then.... hopeful.
Interesting about all the tests. I would think they want the best candidates for the best outcomes, no?
I would sure hate to find out I had lung cancer or something bizarre out of the blue , though.

My original surgery date was dec 20 and it was cancelled at the last minute. In fact I was in pre-op. Turned out that I had a skin infection, very mild, but you really can't take any chances. So I was broken hearted. If they postpone your date, it's very sad, but it is for the best. I am sending good thoughts your way. Peggy xoxo

@Madowa Yup, I remember reading about it at the time, I think. You were probably a bit bummed, but seem to be doing very nicely. So glad. Haven't seen anything since Wednesday from your same-day buddy, Jenb. Last thing was a photo. Hope she's ok.

@shrinkette so sorry about your UI...do hope the antibiotics kill it off in time for your surgery but agree with Madowa that your surgeon would only want the best outcome for you. Keeping everything crossed for you. Chrissie x
