Scared newbie... Hip is shot. What if it doesn't work!!??

Hi @shrinkette aka ellen. Oh no. Of course its all for the best and hopefully it will still be ok to go ahead. It takes so much psychic energy to get ready for the surgery and then to change gears.... I'll be watching to see what happens. Every test result that came back good was such a relief. Not only could i proceed but also, as others said, i was glad to see i didnt have any dread disease. Still in rehab for now. Its manageable and now i'm learning to use a crutch and i guess then a cane. They say, and i see, that the brain/body need to be trained out of all the bad habits. Moving right along. Looking forward to hearing whats going on with you. Devorah
 
Hello everyone. Got a call from surgeon's assistant bright & early today to tell me he will not operate with an active infection present, so date will be changed to January 28 or 31; she will let me know. This will hopefully give me time to get on an antibiotic now & then get retested.

I am very disappointed, of course, since I was 'all systems go,' but wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize my recovery or future. Stuff happens, as they say, & it sure could've been worse. So now I've got to go back to the drawing board on Coumadin & Lovenox & see how my GP wants to handle that. Stay tuned, kiddies!

Oh, and lets stay on this thread until surgery, ok? Makes it less complicated. I was probably too ahead of myself when creating the post-op thread. Many thanks... Love you all.

Ellen although you are disappointed I think this is the best choice. You absolutely do not want to risk an infection developing in your hip. I am disappointed for you too, but happy that he can fit you back in so quickly. On another note, I don't know why I thought you were having surgery on the 6th. I have been checking back to see how you were doing and I finally figured out you were not scheduled until the 17th. You must have wondered what I was talking about.

On another note, I think it's great that your surgeon is so thorough. I was not even required to have a UA prior to surgery. UTIs can be sneaky...no symptoms like yours. Wishing you the best. <3
 
Sorry Ellen but it's true that they should not take a chance when you have an infection. If you get the 28th - that's my six week checkup day - I'll be thinking of you either way. Get all better now!

@calikat That's ok... There's so much going on to keep track of, it's easy to get mixed up. Just spoke to GP's nurse -- she's just contacted pharmacy for Cipro rx & instructed me to resume my usual Coumadin. At least, that office is very receptive and takes action as necessary. Makes things easier. Hopefully, this'll be just one small hurdle in my treatment/recovery process.
 
Oh well. Theres a saying. Every delay is for the good. Good that you dont have to wait too long at least. Time to hit the chocolate i guess. Hang in. You're almost there
 
Good to hear Ellen that he is taking the conservative approach... and since he is my OS that makes me feel really good:)) lol. I think he is doing right thing... do not want an active infection...want to be at your best. I get frequent UTI's so something to be aware of... Sorry you have to do the waiting game again...but nice to know he is taking the conservative route. Hugs!!!!
 
@psychteach Yup, thought you especially would appreciate that. And Chris, his nurse, is very responsive. Gets answers quickly & communicates well. Thought you'd like to know that. Drink lots of water as you get close to UA test!
 
Aw shucks @shrinkette! I've been in your shoes and I can tell you that your new date will be here before you know it and this little blip will become a distant memory. Peggy xo
 
@Madowa I know what you say is true. Not too upset... actually grateful that nothing is being left to chance. Have already started on antibiotic & have new appt for urinalysis. Boy, will I be gulping water!!
 
@Freaky freak Hey, Freaky... You do sound as ready as you're gonna be. A bilateral -- now that takes lots of courage and you obviously have it. ONE MORE WEEK!!! At this time next Tuesday you'll either be waking up or will have awakened earlier and be thrilled to pieces that IT'S OVER! And tomorrow you can say 6 more days!
Do hope it goes well and as scheduled. You're now a week ahead of me; I will be anxious for details when you are able.
 
I will be posting as long as I can get the internet to work in the hospital so keep an I out for me. I may be like jenb and cry my eyes out!
 
@Freaky freak Come to think of it, don't think we've heard from Jenb since she posted that along with a pic. Wonder what's going on. If you feel like crying, do it. I do that NOW when I'm overcome by it all!
 
Sorry to hear (if I read your other post right) that your surgery got moved. Hoping things clear up for you and you're able to get it done soon.
 
@shrinkette Saw your other post that your surgery got postponed. I'm so sorry -- it is hard to get all up for it and then have it changed. I would have had a huge meltdown, I'm sure. I saw my chiro today and h is still convinced itis the sacro joint ad will resolve, ut may take some time. I am just frustrated and so tired of it all. Anyway, he told me to rest and NOT sit upright any more than necessary for a few days hence I won't be on the computer as much. You are in my thouhts and prayers as always. You sound like you are handling this postponement well -- a lot better than I would have done.
