didoan, Congratulations on your new hip. Take advantage of all the naps in the first few weeks home.:martini:

Randy aha! Now my hubby left to get blood work done and I snuck off to the other end of the house to use the PC. I sure will get in touch with you later about the walker. I had looked up the info on dme myself about a month or so ago because I had seen something about some dme being under bidding and you had to only go to certain suppliers for it. I am going to call them myself today and see if I could at least get crutches.

Thanks everyone for all of the good wishes. I am feeling a bit better today but my mind is no where near up to par. For some really strange reason the front of my left thigh is numb, that is my good leg? The right leg (operated one) is getting better every day, it barely hurt to stand this morning. I have to say that hard plastic toilet riser is just pure torture to sit on OW OW OW OW! I have big lumps (swelling) on my right cheek where I least suspected they would be? I had a hard time getting ice and pain meds at the hospital.

I put all of my new medications into my pill organizer last night. I guess I am supposed to not have any pain after 10 days because that is what they gave me long acting (12 hour) pain meds for. I am to take 1-2 short acting pain meds every four hours. If I need the 2 each time I will run out in 8 days and a few hours. I guess the drs. at that hospital don't subscribe to the same pain medication doctrine as many other doctors and bonesmart. The medication is supposed to be enough to last me until my first follow up with the PA on Sept.13. What they gave me doesn't help all that much and hasn't been lasting 4 hours so I hope I heal fast!

I am going to take my first shower since the surgery now. YAY! The PT is coming in an hour and I am sure I dont smell like a rose at the moment. TTYL

didoan, congrats on making it to the other side. Maintain that positive attitude and all will go well...did for me. I moved to crutches right away. Only one day with walker. I borrowed a walker from a friend and just have it over toilet now for getting up and down. Hope you have the riser for the toilet...very helpful.

didoan, If you have to buy the walker yourself, you will find it is a very good investment. They are not expensive. You can even get them at places like Walgreen's, or a medical supply house. They are MUCH easier to use than crutches, because they don't require as much upper-body strength and they are easier in terms of balance. Get the kind with wheels. Don't worry about your typing; we get the drift of what is happening. In a few days you will feel much better. The important thing is that you got through the surgery and are now on the path to recovery. You are getting your life back again. Stay strong and be gentle with yourself! We love you!

didoan, If you run out of pain meds (or when you run low) call your doctor's office and they will give you a refill. for something like oxycodone or oxycontin they have to give you a paper prescription -- can't fax or phone it in -- but they can fax or phone in an order for hydrocodone (Vicodin), which is also very effective. They will not limit you to what was included in that first prescription. Be sure to call your doctor's office before you run out.

BeckyR I am not even going to buy a walker. I can even walk without one and have been doing that since early Tuesday morning (2AM) when I got up and went to pee. I think I posted somewhere on here that they put an alarm on my bed to alert them when I was getting up and walking around without assistance. The PT who came today said I was doing fine with just the cane and to please use it because I could get dizzy and I need some support. So Far everyone is amazed by how well I am doing going back to when I first woke up in the OR. I sat up on the gurney in the recovery room as soon as they wheeled me in so that I could see the xray of my hip. I couldn't get a copy tho because their printer broke down.
My big problem is that I have been unable to 'go' since Friday. I am not in pain because of that possibly because I haven't any appetite and have eaten very little all week. I drank a whole bottle of magnesium citrate at about noon and am hoping for results by 8-9 PM tonight. I do have pain at the incision site and some cramping in the leg and right cheek. I am very groggy from the oxy even tho it doesn't last over 3 hours for the pain I am so groggy and my vision is wonky. I tried all afternoon to rest in my chair but could not nap.
I am on the big computer now, I could not get on to bonesmart after trying all day. I was so frustrated and hubby says it is okay because I am doing so well he is not worried about me walking all over the house, just please use the cane.
The other REALLY big problem here is my hubby is sick. He has a bad cold and I am afraid I will catch it because he is not careful to cover his nose and mouth. I sent him to the drug store with instructions to get cold relief meds and he came home without them. Grrrrrr! Men! He also slept all afternoon whereas I can't sleep. I am sending him back to the store right now to get me an extra pair of ted stockings and he had better come home with cold relief meds and a box of zicam just in case I start to get a cold. :puppysmooze:

:thankyou: everyone for all of the wonderful support that got me to where I am today. I had no fear of the surgery the last week or two before the THR and when the OS and anesthesiologist came to pre-op I told them I am sooo very ready, BRING IT! I guess the happy juice they shot into my IV helped some too :) but I was raring to go, and it was all due to the wonderful caring, support and information I found here on BS. :friends:

Congrats didoan... love that 'happy juice' ... lots of naps and don't forget the mantra x

didoan, You are making wonderful progress, even though it isn't fun. Just the fact that you don't need the walker is a sign of how rapidly you are recovering. You go, girl! My money is on you!

Good morning  Did I tell you all how I heard reaming and tapping along with rock music during my surgery? It didn't scare me or upset me at all, I just went right back to sleep. That happy juice even made me absolutely shameless! I don't know if you saw my post where I said what a prude I am? I don't let anyone see me naked or even partly exposed. Well, they yanked off my hospital gown after they had me on the table in the OR, spread my legs and inserted the catheter and it didn't even faze me! I wonder what is in that 'happy juice' to make you so calm!
I think I will try to take a nap now. TTYL

didoan, Thank you for that enlightening post! I'm amazed you were able to hear everything, and hope that at least you liked the music.

didoan hey there hippy buddy! I don't remember a THING about the surgery. They gave me some happy juice in the pre op room, and all I remember after that is having to bend over a pillow for them to insert the needle in my spine for the spinal. I was "lights out" after that, and the next thing I knew, I was in recovery. I don't remember a lot about the recovery room, or my trip to my room either. I do remember seeing my hubby waiting for me in my room though. He was a welcome sight!

How are you feeling today? I'm sore and stiff, but just got done walking 5x down the hallway now and I'll be doing my exercises in a bit. Then, it's naptime! I'm a little swollen, so I am elevated and iced.

didoan I am pleased you are doing so well. Many of us found prune juice helped with the being bunged up. The TED's are a pain but you will be free of them soon. As vitamin C is good for warding off colds I find home made lemonade helpful. It keeps your fluid level up and doesn't add to your list of medication. Happy Healing.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on your progress. All the little details are interesting to me as someone who has yet to have surgery. Glad to hear things went so well and your positive attitude has continued right through surgery!:)

I here so much about the cost of medical essentials and operations. I realize how fortunate I am to be under the Canadian system where the cost of any operation (except for elective surgery) is covered by our Alberta health care. So there is absolutely no cost. Also I received all of my aids for hip recovery free from an organization called the Lending cupboard. Everything I needed was lent to me and I just returned it after I was done. I just made a donation to them which was voluntary.
Interesting the difference in restrictions for each doctor . I was never supposed to bring my operated leg past the centre line and I could not bend the 90 degrees for 3 months. Other restrictions seemed the same. Hope you are recovering well and make sure to take it easy.

Congrats didoan.. Laughed when I read your description of your experience in the OR with your gown and catheter.. Go happy juice!

:rofsign:BeckyR!I wanna change my name to Runaround Sue! Please board moderator, can I?

The music I heard was '80s rock and I love that!

Elosarabrab My hubby is too sick to go to the supermarket and get prune juice. The magnesium citrate did the job in exactly 8 hours. I have been taking Dulcolax stool softener 2X a day and I ''WENT' OK today with just that. I don't think fresh lemonade is an option right now because of hubby's cold. I have to wear these doggone TEDs for 2 whole weeks from surgery so I really needed another pair.

Mollyb I think there are organizations here that lend many of these post-surgery aids, I have phobias about renting or using anything used by someone else so we just bought everything. I think both systems probably have their good and bad things. Our president is trying something like that right now where everyone is insured and covered and it is creating some problems.

I also have the same restrictions with bending past 90 degrees and crossing my leg or foot past midline. It's not so bad as long as it isn't forever :)

Poppet OOOPS! Sorry! I didn't mean to quote MollyB's whole post! I was just using it to read and respond to then I meant to delete the quote (I am still kinda woozy wonky with the eyes and the brain   . I'll be more careful.

I'm glad my exposure and insertion post made you laugh! :tada: I love to make people laugh! To tell the truth some deep seated phobia made me want to lift my head and gasp, just for a second there, then it was gone and it was like "so what? who cares?"
