MUA RTKR Done!

I really look forward to those days Awriterfoot! My hubby and I were just comparing this to being pregnant, especially when I do my breathing exercises while doing ROM maneuvers...funny thing is I have NEVER been pregnant, nor will I ever be..he said I was having a "baby knee" instead of just a baby....Soo many things I was not prepared for...today wasn't too bad..I did notice that after I did all of my exercises and ate a bit of dinner I was nauseous and sweating...husband said it was time for my meds, guess my body was telling me it was in pain..I iced and relaxed a bit and then got up and cleaned up the house a little...started sweating and feeling that sick to the stomach feel so I stopped, got some ice and came in my room to lay down and relax..Im DONE for the day...let's hope "Groot" lets me sleep !!!

Unfortunately, it really is normal to feel exasperated and weary of the healing process long before it's over. You just have to hang in there and eventually you'll be on the other side. It kind of reminds me of being around 8 months pregnant. Waiting, waiting, waiting, and eventually there is a reward. At least this way, the big trauma is behind, not ahead. :)

It does get better eventually. One day you realize that it's 10 am and you haven't really thought about your knee at all. Then a day comes and you go to bed and realize you haven't thought about it and you've done a hundred things that were hard before.

It gets better. Hang on.

Needed this today! Thanks!

Ok...NEW issue..and NOT happy about it....My OS gave me 50mg of Tramadol for pain at my 4 week visit, replacing my 5mg of Oxycodone....When I have been trying to ween myself off of it, 2 doses of Tramadol to 1 dose of Oxy my body is going thru some weird reactions! yesterday during the day I took the Tramadol 2x and by 730pm last night I was super anxious and nauseous and just plain uneasy...I couldn't get comfortable, I was cold and hot at the same time..I took an OXY at 10 pm and was finally asleep and calm by 11:00pm...I have never really taken any type of pain medicine for more than a week, so this is new to me...Could my body be going thru withdrawals of the Oxy? I only have 3 Oxy's left and am a bit nervous about how my body is going to react! I sent my regular doc an email, she is my HIV doc and has been with me for 12 years, an email asking what to do..Maybe I should get another script of the Oxy and alternate it with the Tramadol? Also I have only been taking 1 Tramadol every 6 hours and it doesn't seem to help great with the pain, it says I can take 2 so I might try that..but this Anxious and nauseous and jittery feeling is NOT ok! I feel like I am finally making progress with Groot, the pain is less today, but to add this new "side effect" to the plate is a bit much! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!

It is possible to become dependant on the OXY not necessarily addicted...people seem to use tramadol as a step down...maybe your Doctor will allow cutting the Oxy in half to ween off.....everyone has different reactions to the side effects.....just another temporary roadblock but only temporary..at least Groot seems to be coming along ..

I just posted someone similar. Doc wants me to wean off of Percocet (oxycodone + acetaminophen) with Duexis. But I spent yesterday in MISERY. Raining all day yesterday and today which I'm sure is a factor but...don't know if I can handle this constant achiness. Hope someone has some good ideas for both of us!

Its not so much the pain that is bothering me with this weaning off process, its the anxiousness and nauseous feeling...Im sweating and cold, it is absolutely ridiculous! The body is acting like Ive been taking pain medicine my entire life!!!! I told the hubby this morning that my left knee better hold out for 20 more years because I am NOT going thru this again......the pain med issues are worse than the knee! NOT COOL!

I know I was spared not needing any pain meds as I have had other issues and hoped to avoid the need....my OS rarely prescribes Opiates as he feels it hinders recovery...I think the sooner off the better and find something to help with the discomfort.....my OS would say to tough it out but that may be easier said than done.....hope it passes quickly.

I went thru some of the same feelings as I was coming off the vicodin when I had my hip replaced. I did it "cold turkey" and was absolutely miserable for about a week. Talk to your OS, explain exactly what is going on and see if he won't give you another Rx to wean down on. Or give your HIV doc a call and explain the same to her.

Thank you Annie and Vinny....Tried to call my HIV doc and she is on vacation..so looks like Im going to have to wait until Tuesday...One of my Best friends is a pharmacist and I asked her opinion..she said to cut the Oxy pills in 1/4 and take a 1/4 if I start feeling the anxiety symptoms..and then up to a 1/2 if it doesn't work...praying it works!

That makes sense. Good luck!

I've decided to do the same over the next few days....

Hi @Spencieca cutting out your meds sounds very uncomfortable. I agree with the others...speak to a Dr. There has to be a better way. Your pharma friend has the right idea about weaning off.

My knees are creeping. Are the haunted? Weird.
I am almost out of percocets, but I only take one at night. Currently doing trampdole in morning, 500 mg aspirin and 250mg napersen during the day, tramadol in afternoon and night and Percocet at bed. The aspirin are those big back and body ones by Bauer. The napersen is and anti-inflammatory pain relievers.

How are you all massaging your knees? I would love to try but have no idea of techniques. Im currently 3 and a bit weeks post op from my revision TKR. Have been reading up on your thread and have enjoyed reading along to the updates. I had my primary tkr at 42 and my revision at 43.

Hi @chereb only massage if your incission is completely closed with no weeping. All I do is put a blob of vitamin E creme on my knee and massage up an down the scar then the whole knee in a circular motion. Also just up and d9wn each side of the patella ant the side of the knee...only takrs a couple of mins till creme is rubbed in. Repeat if you want to...I find my knee is freer after doing this. Wberry, unfortunately I cannot take Aspirin or and type of NSAIDS, due to Anaphylaxis...So Tylenol is my only friend right now as far os OTC meds..I will have to wait to talk to the doc on Tuesday or Monday when my HIV doc gets back in town...another side effect I have today is SUPER LOOSE stools..with the Oxy it was NO STOOL, and with the Tramadol its too much! I told God today that my plate was full enough and asked if He would mind either giving me a BIGGER plate or taking some off of mine...Geesh...Will see how this evening goes with only a 1/2 of Percocet...Need some sleep, big day tomorrow..Hubby has planned another surprise for our 25th Anniversary with some of our really close friends, and it involves a sail boat..but that is all I know for now! I need to be awake for the festivities and not so anxious that people think I am doing drugs, and not the legal ones!

You and I both are chasing the sleep angle. When you catch him let me know how. I am
Hoping this new bed wedge will help tonight.

Can you take Naproxen sodium, it is similar to sleeve, not for sure because it says something about NSAID as a non-anti-inflammatory drug. I also do two extra strength tylenols, but the work almost as well as the tamoral. I read some folks go from percercet to Vicodin, but I had an allergic reaction to that.

hi Wberry, nope can't do Naproxen, it is in the anti-inflammatory class. Praying that tonight goes smooth, Im not helping things by already having anxiety worrying about not sleeping and its not bed time yet!

My wife is a nurse practitioner and she has sometimes helped by giving me Melatomin from health food store. It releases the melatonin that your brain naturally produced to make you sleep. It's worked to give me a few good nights.

Hi @Spencieca melatonin has been discussed elsewhere on this site with its positive results for some. Plug it into the BS search thingie and have a read. Maggie x
