4 weeks today! :happyfeet:..Had a very low key day yesterday, slept off and on most of the day..Went to an early dinner with the hubby and our niece and her BF and then hubby and I went to score keep 2 basketball games..my knee did SO much better, I wasn't that uncomfortable at dinner and it didn't really start to hurt until I was almost done with the games! But let me tell you that once I was done working, my knee started screaming! It was time for meds and WAY past due for ice..And even more good news, a friend of ours let me borrow his GameDay ice machine!!! I looked at those on eBay and Amazon but could never afford them! Im super excited to try it out today! Well thats about it for now, just wanted to let ya'll know what was happening! Hope everyone is having a great day!

Happy 4th week kneeversary! Glad to hear you have an ice machine, I love mine and don't know what I would have done without it. Hope you got your screaming knee to settle down.
Have a good day.

Here we are 4 weeks out! Can you believe it? And though we may still be measuring our progress by inches, we are getting there! Have a great afternoon!

Yes Annie we are! Baby steps that will turn to normal steps in the near future! Having to remind my self to be patient every minute of every day..Im hoping it will become a natural thing here pretty soon! Appt with the OS tomorrow and then PT right after..excited about trying out the ice machine! Also ordered a full knee ice wrap from Amazon that came today! Wasn't sure I was going to be able to borrow the ice machine so I had ordered the wrap..but I figure it will be good to take with me in the car, etc. as where the ice machine would be too bulky! Hope you are having a great day Annie and Brenda!

Groot says Thank you Vinny! Note to self and to other out there feeling ambitious at 4 weeks...It is NOT a good idea to vacuum house..pretty sure I will be paying for that little "exercise" tonight..I just felt the need to do something a bit more productive...lesson learned....

Ok..now THAT was brutal...met with OS assistant today for a ROM check and he tried to bend it further than it was wanting to bend...only got it to 73...I was pretty sure I was going to let him have it if he would have tried to push it any further..and this guy has the WORST bedside manner ever..very cocky in my opinion and my husband got the same vibe...he said that he wanted to talk to my OS and see what his opinion was about doing a MUA..I asked him if the "window of opportunity" was 6 months and he told me no...anyhow, I have another appt. with my OS and the assistant in 2 weeks to check the ROM and discuss the MUA...after that I had a good lunch with the hubby and then went to my PT appt...well she pushed me as far as I was allowing her to do so and I left in a whole lot of pain! she got my ROM to 80 and 0...Now Im home icing and elevating...and the OS assistant wants me to go off of the Oxy and go to Tramadol...Im ok with that...Ugghh...thanks once again for reading my rant! Life is Good..painful but Good...

@Spencieca, if I remember correctly, we are about on the same timeline. My LTKR was 2-18-15. I haven't posted since about week 2 when I was complaining about nausea. I did get a prescription from Zofran from the doctor, but I've only taken it twice as the nausea passed at about 3 weeks, but still have no appetite and still forcing myself to eat and get proper nutrients. Have lost 15 lbs in 4 weeks! I'm sure it will all come back when I feel like eating again. According to posts appetite does come back. I'm starting to wonder when?

To all my Bonesmart friends, I just finished 4 weeks of in home PT. It was a good experience. No one tried to push me, just instructed me and I trie to do what they asked. I've been faithful to do exercises and as a result they dismissed me from in home PT with ROM of 116/4. I now have 4-6 weeks of outpatient to build up strength in my muscles and to try to get more range of motion. I feel pretty good overall. Only really need meds at night -how I hate nighttime! Seems like a different universe when bedtime occurs. I can walk w/o cane but use it anyway as I can get full extension when walking and a better gate. Last visit with PT we went down stairs to our finished basement. I was really dreading it, but I did it, baby step wise, but no pain. Looking forward to doing steps like an adult, but in no hurry. Things have gone pretty well, that I'm just waitng for "the other shoe to drop" if you know what I mean.

Hi Schoonie...Yes, we had our surgery's the same day...sounds like your PT worked great! I think my mistake was not getting to PT until week 2...my ROM is only 75-80 and 0...My OS is talking about MUA not..I have 2 more weeks to get it better, so we will see..Im right with you on the bedtime universe! Sleep just does not come easy at night..I wake up almost every hour to go to the bathroom or change positions, or for really no reason at all..I am not walking with a cane or walker, gave up the walker last week, PT said I didn't need it anymore..would like to get a cane though, to help me walk correctly, especially when I am out and about for...I started driving today..I can go short distances, but it still feels uncomfortable, but it is do able...Good job on the steps! I don't have any at my house but I have gone up and down a few while out and I do it I step at a time, and yes, they are baby steps! Pain isn't terrible but it is still there..Im weening off of the Oxy and the doc wants me to go to Tramadol...Im looking forward to the day where my knee doesn't dictate my entire day! Keep on keeping on! Life is Good...

Hi @Spencieca re the cane....I use one but only on uneven or slopey terrain... The rest of the time I just carry it cause I want to develop a normal gait....not the walking stick gait:giggle:. I picked up my adjustable stick in an op shop for $2 (no expense spared in this recovery LOL)...they are not expensive if you buy them new in any case. I also think that in early stages have in a stick when you are out and about just let's people know that you have an injury. Cheers Maggie x

Hi again...just read you comment on @vinny s thread re ROM....have you tries massaging your knee? I found that a couple minutes massage w vitamin E creme or similar gives a bit more flexibility...worth a try I think...cheers Maggie x

My physical therapist massaged my knee cap very gently at each visit. She showed my husband how to do it when I was lying down. She said it helped with keeping adhesions from forming which helps with ROM. It doesn't really hurt, but is a little nerve wracking. I think its a mental thing for me, knowing my knee is being touched! I grew to actually relaxant enjoy it because I could walk better and with less pain after. Worth a try I think.

Popping in to say hello. Looking at thread about knee massage. Sounds good. May have try it. Xxx

I massage up and down along the scar then do the whole knee - top and sides.

Don't let your OS push you into a MUA. According to everything on this site it is much to early to even be thinking of one. I'm sort of stuck with about 80 degrees flexion but my OS doesn't want me to try for more until he sees me at 6 weeks post op. So of course I keep wondering if I'm going to have a hard time getting my ROM after that. But I do know that no one (PT, OS, etc) will be allowed to push it further than I'm comfortable with. PT said she might start some massage next week and I'm rather looking forward to it.

Hey, checking in to say hi, keep up the great recovery. Wish I was as far aLong as you.

Wberry, you will be there is no time! you are just learning the patience rule like the rest of us...
Annie: My next appt will be at my 6 weeks...part of my problem is I cannot take any type of anti-inflammatory drugs..I have to rely solely on ice and elevation, which I have been doing...now the doc is switching my to Tramadol, going off of Oxycontin 10mg 2x a day and Oxycodone 5mg 1 every 4-5 hours...I have already been weening my self off of the 10mg and am only taking the 5mg once during the day and twice at night..but it has been a rough couple of days since I have been doing that...this whole medicine regimen is like a huge puzzle! The OS hasn't really said much or how to ween off or anything..good thing my BFF is a pharmacist!
