MUA RTKR Done!

not only because of pain but because I feel as if I have failed in some way..
You are not a failure at all. You have not failed, either---everybody recovers at different rates, and to put a schedule on recovery does cause a great deal of frustration---just take it gently and take it slowly.

.I do NOT want to do a MUA but I also do not want a stuck leg
Nobody wants an MUA---for some, it is simply a method of achieving greater ROM and something that may need to b e done---it is not a sign of failure either.

That being said, looking at your date of surgery, it is waaaaaaaaaaay too early to even consider the need for it. Again, ice, elevate, rest, and take your stretches and exercises gently and to the point of discomfort---and no further.

...I made it a point before my surgery to promise my self that the knee would NOT be the focus of my life any longer..I will listen to it and take care of it, but it has to adjust to my life!

Whoa....slow down, girlfriend! :-) Six weeks post-op, I have learned that *I* am not in charge of anything; my KNEE is calling the shots. Forget about trying to assume normal activities as if this hasn't happened. It has, and it's not the worst thing in the world, but, please, please don't try to rush it.
When I first discovered this forum, I was on it all day, every day...and then I had to step back a little bit because I read about others who had their surgery *after* me and they were out hiking, biking, and going back to work and yes, I felt like a complete failure. (Confession: still do, every now and then. ..) But I am constantly reminded that every recovery for every person is different and nothing other than TIME and the RIGHT kind of therapy is going to help me get better.

Best of luck to you!

thank you everyone....had my PT appt today and it went pretty good....told my PT what my OS had said about the MUA if not reaching the 90 in 2 weeks..she said it was a very common conversation to have at this stage of the journey..but to not be afraid and to not let it worry me....She worked on my ROM after massaging the thigh and a bit around the knee cap and honestly, it felt really good....I got to 63 to and 0...much better than Tuesday..I have upped my meds and have accepted that I am right where I am supposed to be in this part of MY journey..Last night was a rough night, and I am thankful for finding this site and being able to vent and whine...tonight is better..have a great weekend everyone and hope we all get some good Zzzz's...

Found you :)

Sorry to hear that you think you are not progressing as much as you should but just remember you are only a little over two weeks post op! You need to be gentle with your knee so you can set the foundation for a healthy heal so you and Groot will have a lifetime of happiness!!

Hope you have a great weekend.

Thanks @Blendab1 ! Last night went pretty good, was actually able to lay on my side for a little bit. Our nieces lil pup Tobias is staying with us this weekend and all's I can say is Thank goodness he is only 12 lbs because he decided to jump off the bed in the middle of the night using my knee! OUCH! but I survived! I have 2 80lb pups that sleep with us and they have been very gentle..its the "lil ones" ya gotta look out for! My emotional state is better today and I am glad to be on day 17! Have a great weekend everyone!

I am bringing my little 20+pound furbaby to my daughters today as she will watch him for a week or two. I have 20 stairs between me and outside and I think for his bladder sake he will be better off at her house. I am going to miss him so much but at least I have my two Silver Persians to get me company on the bed.

Hey @Spencieca where is the photo avatar? good report and everyday will get better although there will be the occasional back step followed by two steps forward.....life is good..

Vinny

Hi @Spencieca - just caught up on your thread.... as @vinny said this is a varied journey for us all - the two steps forward one step backwards (with tissues in hand) is a "normal" progression. Hope you are feeling better - take care, Maggie x

@vinny what photo avatar are you referring to? and thanks everyone...today is a better day...new mantra today is "today is 1 day closer to being pain free"....

you have replaced your photo with Groot.. you are getting there keep smiling...

Yes, I replaced it with Groot...that is the name I gave my new knee and every time I see that picture I smile, I just LOVE Groot! Hope you had a good weekend! It is beautiful here in San Diego today, in the 80's..waiting for the hubby to get home so we can go down to the beach and get some Gelato and go for a short walk....

Had a great weekend...played golf both days..we had a beautiful dinner last night and the weather today is perfect 75 not a cloud in the sky......enjoy the gelato

and we love San Deigo..stayed at the Bed and Breakfast Inn at Lajolla the John Philip Sousa house....I proposed there and she said yes...great place.....people who stay in various rooms hide money there for the next guest to try to find...with my OCD we tore the place apart to find $8.55 then we hid the cash for the next person.....

I have lived in SD for most of my life and have NEVER heard of that at the La Jolla Inn...will have to check it out! Hubby and I celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary on the 24th of this month..been together off and on for 32 years..Highschool sweethearts and best friends....I will tell him about that place and maybe we will go and check it out! Now Bermuda seems like a nice place to live!

the inn has one room where that went on...It was all by itself at the top.....course it was 20 years ago but I am sure it is still there...and Bermuda is a beautiful place..with a climate not unlike San Diego...only been in the 90's once or twice.and never lower than 45.....The Inn would be a nice place for you and your Husband and Groot to celebrate....

It is day 20 and I am kinda feeling like I should be done with resting stuff...I don't really need the walker any longer while Im in the house, Im getting around fairly well...I have PT again today and still a little nervous...I just want this to be over and get back to my normal way of living! Some days Im ok with my progression, then low and behold I hear about someone who is a week or so ahead of me and they are walking and exercising and back to work..sort of makes me feel like Im a wuss..like I should just be able to get thru this pain and get on with my life! The pain isn't out of control, but I also know that is due to the pain meds that Im still on..will this restlessness fade? Thanks for letting me vent, my kitty party has now ended...:)

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt! And so have most of us.

It's all too easy to compare your progress with another person's, but it's a mistake to do so. People who have both knees done at the same time even find that their knees don't progress at exactly the same speed.

Your knee is recovering on its own schedule. Nobody else has had your knee. Nobody else had exactly the same things wrong with it before surgery; nobody else had exactly the same surgery that you had. Nobody else has your body and your constitution. And nobody else's knee is going to recover exactly the same as your knee is recovering.

So, don't feel like a wuss. You're doing fine! :):friends:
