Fortunately the Poop Fairy has always been kind to me.....another joy of the aging process..:eeeuw: I will instruct her to pay you a visit ..

Vinny

@@Spencieca I came very close to an impacted colon with my first knee. This 2nd time I continued to take stool softeners even when I was down to just 1/2 of a 7.5mg hydrocodone pill at night. That along with an occasional glass of warm prune juice kept things moving.

@vinny Sounds like you and the "Poop Fairy" have an intimate relationship! :)

First PT visit today and it went well..I like her so far, will see how how I feel in Friday after my next appt. Just woke up to the worst leg jolt ever! The knee bent like an alien force was doing it for me! I jumped and yelled so loud and grabbed my husband's leg and scared the bejeezy out of him..mind you I was sound asleeo! Is this normal? I know I did too much today, sat for 2 hours doing score keeping for league basketball this evening and by the time I got home the knee was huge and angry! Won't make that mistake again! Today is the 2 week mark! @vinny thank you for the referral to tour poop fairy..she has been here plenty!

Excellent and most welcome @Spencieca as I am here to serve. The jolts are common early on as all of the healing takes place around your implant including nerves and tendons...I found the most sensitive area to be the actual bone around the implant where bone bruising occurred especially if I hit one leg against the other ......as long as passes no problem. Did you have a cushion while keeping score? Gentle on the PT. Keep icing.. When the alien grabbed you did it look anything like this :tantrum2:

Vinny

I love the idea of a poop fairy!!! But haven't gotten on a good acquaintance with her yet. Going to add some senna tonight to see if that will bring her to visit. Glad you were able to get out for 2 hours. Just being out is great for morale. Sometimes I feel that I'm so totally focused on the knee that there is nothing else going on in the world.

@annie1234...Milk of Magnesium worked for me, I ended up taking it 2x a day for 2 days and presto, the fairy made her visit! And I am still taking the stool softener...also you might add a probiotic or if you like greek yogurt add that to your list! Getting out felt good, but honestly it was too long of a time, paying for it today...I made it a point before my surgery to promise my self that the knee would NOT be the focus of my life any longer..I will listen to it and take care of it, but it has to adjust to my life! BTW..I tried to post a picture of my badge of honor and it says file its too large, any idea on how to get it on there @vinny ?

@Spencieca - you need to re-size your picture, using a picture editing program on your computer. I usually make a copy of the photo and re-size that, so that the original photo is not altered. The size you need is mentioned in the article below.

Yes, too much, too soon for your knee. It let you know and you've learned not to do that again. No permanent harm done, just a painful experience.

Just finished up with the OS and he was not very happy with the ROM..shocker..not...only 45 and that is with a LOT of pushing...he said it was due to my pain. I have not been taking the pain meds very much anymore, but was told I need to get back on them around the clock for at least the next 4 weeks...Wants to see me in 2 weeks and wants the ROM to be at 90. If not then he said I would have to do the MUA...Not a happy camper right now....the plan is to do the Oxy every 4 hrs ( 1-2) pills and the Long acting Oxy every 12 hours...and the tylenol 3 x a day.... I have been taking the Long Release Oxy 2 x a day but the other Oxy 1 pill every 6 or 7 hours..guess thats not enough!
PT 2x a week and home exercises...Here's a question for you, what is the CORRECT way to elevate? I have tried the 3 pillows on the bed, but hubby says there is too much of a bend in my knee...I LOVE to ice and elevate so I have no problem doing it, just want to make sure that I am not making things worse..thanks for letting me ramble!

Hi @Spencieca ..sorry about that report....elevate think " toes above your nose"..do you still have much swelling as that restricts ROM so keep icing for an hour at a time 3 times a day if you can.....hope the meds help you..

Vinny

Hi Vinny...Ice is my friend..there is a good amount of swelling but not over the top..he said the pain is what is keeping me from reaching the ROM....Just a little bump in the road, no worries!

Elevate the length of the leg so the pillows are not under the knee. a little bit of bend is ok. It is often uncomfortable to have the leg fully straight for a length of time early in the healing process.

Get your pain and swelling under control and then (I'm told???) the ROM will follow. I sit in my recliner with the foot part up and 2-3 pillows under my leg--sort of staggered with 1 way under my thigh and the other lower down. It's comfortable and let's my head be up to see TV or talk to people and I don't flex my knee in that position. My foot ends up at heart level so guess that is high enough too.

Sorry to hear about the set back, but you'll get there. Yep, pain management is important, for sure.

Take those pain meds on the clock, but do not let anybody set up a schedule for you. It is way too early yet to be even thinking about an MUA----even then, they cannot force you to have an MUA---it is your body and your recovery.

As for elevating, here is an article for you: Elevation is the key

Yesterday the knee hurt and ached all day..especially after the 2 week follow up exam..was in tears most of the late night...not only because of pain but because I feel as if I have failed in some way...This morning when I woke up it wasn't as sore, so that lifted my spirits..I have my 2nd PT appt today...I am going to do as I am told and what my knee will allow me to do..I do NOT want to do a MUA but I also do not want a stuck leg..Ive walked with a limp and limited ROM for far too long as it is...I did not endure this major surgery to walk with a limp! It WILL get better, sometimes I just need to vent....Ive always been told that the only way to "eat an elephant" is one bite at a time..Im not sure why that saying has stuck with me since my youth but it is something my dad told me as a child...and NO, I don't eat elephants...LOL...

Vent away @Spencieca everyone has had a vent moment..I don't think that heavy PT is the answer....heavy icing and mild stretching...everyday activity requires ROM walking require 65 up steps 90 down steps 100...lite PT gentle stretching....and by the way Elephants are tasty especially the little baby ones..

Vinny

@vinny...always putting a smile on my face with your humor! Stretching feels good so Im not having any problems doing that :) I won't let the PT push me to tears....I just keep saying to myself 'this too shall pass"...Hope you are having a good day!
