Oh yeah! I feel like this at least once a week! I've JUST started TRYING to walk up and downstairs normally at 7 weeks post-op, and its hard because my quads are still kind of weak...and then I'll read some thread here where the person says they've been zipping up and down the stairs a month after surgery, and wonder what's wrong with me. :-(
But I have learned to let the feeling pass, and just "keep on keeping on", as they say! :) Every one of us has to walk his or her own path!

Had PT today and it didn't go as well as last week..I was having a lot of pain in my hip and lower back...I really like my therapist, she is very gentle and caring...My flex was 72 today, but that was with a LOT of help and some pain...I have doc appt with my GP but after that Im just going to rest and do some light stretches...still feeling a bit "blue", Im blaming it on PMS..lol...Life is Good...G'nite!

Oh, oh! You do have the blues...I remember feeling the same after my hip but it hasn't hit me yet with the knee. Is there any way you can get outside and in the sunshine for a bit...that really seemed to help me. Please keep posting your thoughts and feelings...sometimes just knowing that others have felt the same really helps. And remember, your knee didn't get bad in 3 weeks so of course it is going to take more than 3 weeks for it to get right again! Hug!

had a rough night, lots of pain...I know I did too much yesterday with PT and score keeping work...I had a really hard time getting to sleep due to the pain and I even had to take a 2nd pain pill, which I haven't needed to do since the hospital..but yesterday was an "off" day mentally and physically..today is a bit better..had doc appt with my HIV specialist and she said all of my numbers look good and that my knee looks good as well...so now that Im back home its time for some meds and a nap...Hope everyone is having a good day! Life is Good!

Sorry to hear you had a rough day and night. Guess we are entitled to them now and again. Hope you get a good nap and that helps. Good news about your HIV numbers being ok. I'm sure that never leaves your mind when you don't feel well. I just finished with PT...she had me do straight leg lifts with a 2lb weight on my ankle. I was sure I wouldn't be able to, but my foot went right up when I told it to. Only did 10 of them and that was enough. Am going out later for a short church service. While it will be good to get out, I suspect I will have had enough for the day when I get home. Life is GOOD indeed!

had PT today and a new therapist...she has a MUCH different approach than the other PT I have had...she is much more of a Move it or Lose it kinda person...I will have her 2x next week and then my original person..I guess it is good to have 2 different types of people, they both have me do different types of exercises..got on the bike today and rocked back and forth..also laid on my stomach for the first time and stretched the quads...felt a bit strange..didn't hurt too bad, but didn't exactly feel real comfy either! PT said I could get rid of my walker now and use a cane if I wish...Dinner tonight with some good friends, looking forward to it...Better day today than yesterday..it is going to be in the 80's here this weekend and hubby has Saturday off...my PT also said I could go to the gym and use the bike there and any upper body exercises I wanted to do..no treadmill...am praying that tonight the pain is not going to be out of control due to this session..Hope everyone is having a great Thursday!

@Spencieca - We had the same kind of day! Had a new PT who was nicknamed "The Torturer." (WTH?) The head PT said, "We're going to make you work today because we have a short 'window of opportunity'....." As soon as I heard that phrase, I got kinda ticked because thanks to everyone here, I knew what was coming next: Blah, blah, 'scar tissue', blah, blah, 'must increase ROM', blah, blah, 'work harder even if it hurts'....

Anyway, just like with the other PT, she was surprised at my current ROM despite my ongoing stiffness. I told them that I do a few exercises on my own nearly every day and go out for short walks every week. We did the stretch where you lay on your stomach, loop the strap around your foot and bring your foot to your butt. She kept grabbing my ankle and trying to push me further but when she pushed too hard, I resisted and said "No, that's too much."

I'm a little sore this evening but took my Percocets on time, for a change! :-) So far, so good. I go back tomorrow (for more alleged "torture"?)

I guess you and I can compare notes each week! :-) :-)

@vinny how are you doing this fine Thursday?

I had a great day @Spencieca thank you...great round of golf and my wife and I went out for a wonderful Lobster dinner last night...some PT this morning swing by the office and out for pizza tonight.....we took in a 19 year old recently who has had a very tough life so we get quiet time together it is a blessing..

Vinny

How are you doing today? I'm sitting under my polar cube (what a great invention!) waiting for the PT. Think this may be my last home PT as I'm to see the OS on Monday and expect out patient PT then. Will use the same facility that I have used several times in the past as I know the PTs and they know me. Just mail ordered 2sets of capris and tee tops. Shopping is always therapeutic!

Hi Annie! Im super envious about the polar cube..I spoke to a friend last night who said he had 1 that I could borrow, but we were at a birthday dinner and he had a few cocktails under his belt at the time...I think I will order one on Amazon today..I cannot take any type of anti-inflammatory meds so Ice is pretty much my only option...I agree on the the shopping being therapeutic, it always seems to work for me!

Vinny: sounds like you had a great time with golf and dinner..We went out to dinner for a friends bday and I put on jeans for the first time in 3 weeks...well all's I have to say is that I won't be doing that again anytime soon, at least not until the swelling goes down! Got the OK to go to the gym from the PT so hubby and I are going to do that tomorrow..hope you and your wife have a great weekend!

Morning SeptemberZen! I was pretty sore last night after the session with "Nurse Cratchet" but not too bad today..I think it will be good to mix it up with Therapists, I guess there is a "good cop/bad cop" in all situations..Im looking forward to seeing the gentle PT next week :) Im going to the gym tomorrow to work on upper body strength and also rock on the stationary bike..its supposed to be in the high 80's-low 90's this weekend here so Im hoping to be able to get out and enjoy some of the sunshine! Have a great weekend!

Take it slow in the gym.....if you can rock back and forth of the bike that would be good.....enjoy..

Vinny

Wow....I woke up this morning and got out of bed without waiting for my knee to wake up and join me...not a lot of pain at all, just stiffness...I can see a BIG difference in my knee today! Im soo happy that I tried to do the happy dance...note to self: do not do happy dance until knee is a bit more flexible! I have been staying on the med schedule to a T and it seems to be helping! Going out to breakfast with a friend this morning and can't wait to show her the progress! Hope everyone is having a GREAT weekend! I am starting to see a light at the end of this tunnel and for once its NOT the train! Life is Good!:happyfeet:

So happy to see you are having a really good day! Enjoy your outing and the sunshine, I wish I could go outside as I am feeling stir crazy about now.

Thanks Brenda! You will be out in about in no time! It is beautiful here today

Had my PT appt. today with the "not so gentle" therapist...hubby went with me since I still cannot drive..they both seem to get a long great, especially when she is working on me and Im making these pain faces...I did get up to 75 today..I did rocking on the bike and then also leg presses...my foot was going numb so I didn't do as many leg presses as she asked and I was totally ok with that...Have my appt with the OS on Thursday..each day seems to be getting a tad bit better, thank goodness! Hope everyone had a great day!

@Spencieca , Heres a great exercise i did at home alot early on in my recovery. Stand in front of a stair or two. Place your foot on the first step and gently and slowly bend knee forward and back, back and forth. I loved that exercise since i dispised heel slides. You need to continue taking meds around the clock. I iced and elevated 16 hours a day for atleast 6 weeks. Fortunately for me i had 12 weeks off from work and was given 4 extra weeks off from my manager. Fast forward 1 year from my surgery and i work pain free, limp free at a busy Costco in the Bay Area as a butcher , And 4 days a week i go to the gym for 2 hours, biking, stair climbing all pain free. Patience will be the order of the day for you. Its way too early. Your ROM will get better. And remember to set your boundries with the PT. Best of luck , Iceman
