Way to go!!
Your on your way. Let me tell you about one stretch that helped me a lot. Remember when you were a kid and you use to sit on the edge of a tall bench or a dock or even a swing. What did you do with your legs? Natural to sing them under what ever you say on. I did the same often with my operative knee. Just a light swing out and back until it would stop at its limit. That's how I got to 120. You should try it.

I do that at the doctor's office and at PT..one of my favorite exercises :) wish I had a place to do it at home...I was kicking the soccer ball today with the hubby..I like doing stuff like that!

I have the same issue. Doing put my arm under my caff to raise my leg to allow it to hang and kick.

My PT did that leg swing too, the motion felt good but the knee clicking each time sorta freaked me out, thought maybe I was hurting the implant.

Not going to hurt the implant Pax, it is stronger than your regular knee..the only thing you can really hurt again are the soft tissues and stuff around the knee...and swinging your knee, gently back and forth is good for it and to me it feels great..sometimes late at night when my knee is feeling stiff, I hang it over the side of my bed and swing it, while Im laying down...bring it back up and then back to sleep...

Went to a friends house last night after my PT session for a BBQ...was kicking the soccer ball around the back yard and walking up and back along the grass, just kicking it lightly with operated knee..felt like I was normal for a while! I really enjoyed it..I would then kick it to my hubby, concentrating on bending the knee and following thru to straighten it..I did this VERY slow and easy. When we were done I went inside to chat with the kids and they were asking about my knee so I went to do a small squat holding on the counter and guess what...my LEFT knee gave out! WTH! I know it has to be replaced as well, but was thinking I had a good couple of years left on it...guess it has different plans..Im thinking that the left leg has been taking soo much extra on because of the surgery on the right, that it is getting worse quicker...not sure that was worded correctly but I think you get the idea..lol..By the end of the night both legs were un happy and needed to get home and get iced and have medicine...My pain usually comes when I am sitting in chair or in the car..it starts from my lower back, goes down the right side of the leg, to the back of the knee...doesn't matter if the knee is bent or straight...I think it is my IT band...Ready for my life to be back!! Have a good weekend everyone!

That's rough, sorry to hear about the left one being a pain in the behind. I wonder that it doesn't happen to more people, the non operated leg is truly abused in the process!

Re: pain while riding in the car, I still get some of that, sure hope it wanes before we start the 17 hour drive to FL!

Hey Laura....I was told that it frequently happens that the non op leg declines at an accelerated rate.....not sure about kicking a ball at this stage though...nice that you are getting out and doing things though..

it was VERY easy kicking Vinny...It was if I was just learning how to kick a ball again....felt good to be normal for a while..even if I did look like a VERY old 2 year old kicking a soccer ball!

When I met with the OS he looked at my X-rays and said we need to do them both..I said oh no I have a good leg and a bad leg ..he said look at the pictures and tell me which is which..if we only do one the other will not be far behind...so glad I got them both at the same time...I got my life back that had been missing for years and you will to......

The VA won't do both legs at the same time...took me forever to have them do this one, mostly because I am only 47, they wanted to wait til I was 50.

I've noticed my non-op leg has had a good deal more pain than it had before the surgery, I'm hoping it's just over use and that as the right leg strengthens it will feel better. I don't doubt that I will have to replace it but I really want the next surgery to be far in the future!

I didn't ask my doc how he closes. I figured other things were more important, but I'm secretly hoping for glue. My vet glues incisions. Part of me feels as if I should get at least as good as my cats.

Then they'd have wanted you to be 60. I'm amazed you got them to do it at all. My VA physical therapist mentioned something about a hydrotherapy pool, so I'm keeping that in mind as an option, because we don't really have any suitable options here in town.

I'm in the same boat with my non-op knee. I am hoping it will last a few more years before I need to do this again. I still have to convince the VA on my knees.

Spencieca.....your pain does sound like IT band issues. Here is an article that may help you:

IT Band issues and treatment

Try not to worry about your other knee right now. It is taking the brunt of the work and it's possible that it will do better once your operated knee gets stronger. You need to give it 6-9 months to be "normal" again.

I agree that the "good" leg often starts to play up because of the extra load. When the PKR in my right leg failed and I was on crutches before my replacement surgery, I started to feel pain in my left knee for the first time.
Then I had the revision and the left leg continued to bear much of the load. By the time my right leg was healed, I knew that I would soon have to get the left knee replaced.

Sorry to hear that your non-operative leg is misbehaving. Like so many others who have posted, I'm in the same boat. Id like to tell my OS to go ahead and do it in a few more weeks before I try to go back to work...but there is a little matter of money to live off of while I recuperate!

I can't believe you had the courage to kick around a soccer ball no mater how gently. That isn't even on my "bucket list!!"

My PT says my IT band is a little tight too. She massages it as well as my knee and it feels so good. Much better than when I do it myself. ☺️ She also has me lay on my back with a belt going from my hand to over the arch of my foot and back to the other hand with my leg straight, then I pull my leg across my body and hold, then pull it out to the side of my body and hold. It really gives me a good stretch both ways and feels so good.

Hope the rest of your weekend is comfortable and uneventful!

My hip is at 90 degrees to my body when I do the belt stretches.
