TKR Roger got a new left knee

It's good to see you around and that you're doing well. Send my best wishes on to your wife too.

Roger, I'm happy that your wife is doing better. I hope things will settle down a bit so that you can come up for air! It seems that when it rains, it pours. But you have your lucky kilt to see you through it all.

A little introspection for myself. Yesterday was one year (Sunday to Sunday) of my accident. Tomorrow is day for day. It really has been a tough year. I promised my friends and co-workers I wasn't going to do anything dangerous or stupid this past weekend, and I meant it. Although I did manage a small cut while doing dishes!

I owe a debt of gratitude to so many. And some will never be repaid as they should. There is no way to do it in some cases. Thanks to all of my Bone SMart friends for the well wishes and comments that got me through the beginning of my back journey. During this recovery, as my knee, I never set out to be an inspiration or example. I am fortunate to be healthy enough to heal well, and to have a great surgeon to get me put back together. Nurses and aides that made sure I was comfortable and had what I needed. My physical therapist, same one that did my knee, will tell folks he didn't do a thing for me... Friends that were there for me and my family. And my family... What can I say?

I feel really good. I can do almost everything I need to do. Have some time still to do all I WANT to. I see my surgeon tomorrow and expect a clean bill of health. And no restrictions. And then I hope my Occupational Health folks will follow suit. It might be a long time before I do some of the things I used to, but I will get to them again. I no longer have nerve pain issues in my feet, but do still have nerve issues across my right cheek and down through my right shoulder from my neck injury. It ranges from numb to fire, and shaving is excrutiating. I do notice the loss of flexibility in my middle back, more than I thought I would. I doubt that will ever improve since I have that hardware in place. I can lift my Mastiff, but repetitve tasks tire me quickly and make me sore. BUT, it is just the muscles that are sore. I don't honestly know when I last had a pain pill of any sort, but I use muscle relaxers infrequently. And I am still very impatient. But have no desire to push like I did with my knee.

Despite being a tough year, in some ways, its been a good year regardless. Be well my friends.
Roger

Roger,
What a wonderful report all this in only a years time, hat's off to you brother. Your perseverance and wonderful outlook have served you will. Keep on keepin on.

Roger.....here's hoping that things continue to improve for you. I'm betting they will. It's so easy to think that we can heal ourselves quickly, when in fact complete healing is more of a process over quite some time. You have conquered the hardest part and that is keeping a positive attitude and putting things in perspective. It will serve you well as you go forward to live the rest of your life. You will always have the support of your BoneSmart family!!!

Roger, it's great that you can look back at a difficult year and see that you are in such a good place now with a future to look forward to! Just be a little careful!!

My surgeon is happy with my progress and doesn't want to see me for a YEAR... And, released all restrictions. She really likes my attitude and outlook. I have always been a "Glass half Full" kind of guy though. SO yes, I am a very happy camper. On the issues of my concussion and memory lapses, she wants me to document them. Probably nothing but myself highlighting my aging brain. But there have been a couple of troubling points like the whole "Stevie Wonder" episode a couple pages back here... As for the nerve issues across my neck and shoulder, she wants me to try Lyrica. Neurontin made me feel too drugged to feel like I was functioning properly. I'll try it for a month or two and see. I would rather just live with the "pain" and sensations than feeling doped.

If I can figure out how to make an animated GIF from the CT scan yesterday, I will. It is really cool to cycle through and see the hardware...

Thanks to everyone here for reading. I know I get a little verbose at times. Just remember though, I'm not a Superman.... Just a guy trying to get through everyday...

I'm not sure which is my lucky one, as I have 4 now... Shoot, they are ALL lucky!!! Even wore one to work last week!

Hmm, I feel like I am missing some of those parts they said I'd get!!! Everything is just freewheeling, wheres the power assist? Haha...

Perhaps more kilted pics this evening. End of summer party at a friend's. Kilts are expected...
