Just thinking that maybe I hit the gray overdo area today that everyone mentions that you won't know until you do it. The PT felt really good today but I am having a little pain in my butt (literally) that I feel pretty sure was from the stork stance (LOL felt like one when I did it). It isn't extremely painful but I can tell that my hip is fussing at me about it. Taking it easy with ice and more ice. My PT told me to always use the pain as my guide and my guide is telling me, guess what hun you pushed me a little too hard today. But that's ok, live and learn. Will probably take the day off from PT tomorrow to give it a chance to rest. Thanks for listening. Love you guys!!

@mystikfairy61, always a good idea to rest, maybe a little ice, too, after doing a bit too much. It's so easy to do, particularly when we're trying to impress the physical therapist (which we all do for some strange reason).

Take care and keep us posted. We care.

@bottomshollow I didn't feel like I was trying to impress the PT but who knows,LOL!! I was just surprised I was able to do the one legged stand so easily. Oh well like I said live and learn!!

I rested today and only did the necessary walking around the house and no PT. However, the buttock pain is still with me, not severe but there when I sit or walk. The doctor changed my pain meds from the Percocet 5/3.25 with 1-2 every 4 hours to Vicodin 5/3.25 with 1-2 every 6 hours. I am not getting the same pain relief with the Vicodin as I did with the Percocet but I know the Percocet is higher pain med than Vicodin. I have to take 2 Vicodin to get the same relief I got from 1 Percocet.

I am guessing the buttock pain is from the ramped up PT yesterday and I know rest will more than likely take care of the pain. My post op apt is Monday. Not sure how to address this with them or if I need to just let them know that I will probably need another refill or so before I can start to cut back. They were the ones who cut me back to Vicodin after just one prescription of Percocet.

I also take ibuprofen and Tramadol that I was on before surgery. I guess I am a little concerned since they have already begun to cut me back on meds if they expect me to stop them soon and from what I have read here I shouldn't expect to this soon. I am ok with the Vicodin just want to be sure I have meds in case I need them.

Will probably be seeing the PA and get stitches out. Any advice on how to handle this would be appreciated. My GP is at a clinic that doesn't do narcotic pain meds so that option is out of the question. Anyone can throw their 2 cents worth in I just tagged them but would love to hear from anyone. Thanks so much...
@Poppet @Josephine @Jaycey

There are non narcotic meds that may work for you. Can you see your GP and discuss you concerns?

How much Tramadol do you have in stock?
What kind of exercises are you being made to do? How many reps, how long etc.

Did I not share this with you before?
Hips don't need much exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all these sore spots and aches and pains. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

@Josephine You did post this to me the other day. As far as the tramadol goes, I have fibromyalgia and I get 120 a month from my GP for it. I think the exercise I did Friday which was the one legged stance both with knee locked and bent caused the pain because I had not had any prior to that. The exercises I do are as follows:
straight leg lift while lying down (10) - raise up on toes (15) - march in place (15) - step to right then step to left (15) - 360 degree turn (3 each way) - mini squats with gluteal squeeze (10) - walk backward about 10 steps (5). You say that hips take care of themselves if given half a chance, what about strengthening muscles that had gotten a little atrophied before the surgery, don't they need to exercised to strengthen them?

Walking is still the best therapy for them. You're one week out and shouldn't be doing any exercises until at least week 3 and even then certainly not that boot camp stuff!

It still remains that any exercise regimen should NOT cause you pain when you are doing it or thereafter. If it does then it's causing more damage than benefit.

Thanks so much. I just didn't want to get into a situation where the muscles wouldn't be strong enough but I guess I don't have to worry about that as long as I walk a little each day. It is just nice to know that I don't have to feel pressured to do the PT. I want the hip to improve but I don't want to do damage to it since I went thru the surgery to help it get better.

@Josephine Let me get these questions out of my head. I am curious, have you ever known of it to cause a problem for someone to take 325 mg of aspirin twice a day for the blood thinning properties as well as 800 mg of ibuprofen twice a day. My doctor told me it was ok to resume the motrin but to also take the 2 aspirin for 6 weeks. Just curious about it. thanks

It's okay if prescribed by a doctor. But we should never do it for ourselves. And 6 weeks isn't going to be a problem either. Please don't worry about it.

Thanks I appreciate it. I won't worry about it anymore and will just get back to my job of healing. You are an angel Josephine!

Hi @mystikfairy61. A PT made me do 'the one legged stance both with knee locked and bent' once! When she was testing me for Nordic walking training.... never again! I took Jo's advice right from the start and decided these hips are made for walking and that was what I would stick to.. She knows you know :)

Had to share a pic of my recumbent bike I got today. It looks brand new and has all of the paperwork from when the guy bought it, manual and all. It sells for $205 on ebay but I got it for $60. Have already tried it, it is nice and it felt great to use for a few mins. Feeling blessed!!

I had been looking for one since I found out I needed surgery, so glad I found this one and the price was great!! Hopefully will be able to add my Zumba back after a few months!! Then I can finish the work I started losing weight. Lost 30 pounds before surgery and need to lose about 40 more to get to my goal.

[Bonesmart.org] Riding the Recovery Roller Coaster [Bonesmart.org] Riding the Recovery Roller Coaster [Bonesmart.org] Riding the Recovery Roller Coaster 13 days post op. :spin:Far left is my incision after the stitches were pulled today. 2nd one is my before picture, no space at all between femur head and socket and last is my xray today of my new hip. Getting stitches out today wasn't bad at all, took pain med before I went to ensure some relief while it was being done. :happydance:Went out to eat with my son this evening at Ryan's Steak House, and now home with ice and elevation. Leg is a little achy from all the walking today but no real pain, kind of like an overworked muscle. :groan:I got one last prescription of Vicodin and will be weaning off it and going to just tramadol and motrin. Feeling really good, still trying to get over the rigorous PT from Friday but talked to PA today and he wants PT to slow down on how much he has me do. So hopefully tomorrows session won't be as bad, and if I am asked to do something I don't want to attempt, I am just gonna say no.

@mystikfairy61 Did you have stitches or staples? I have 23 staples which is about a 5 inch long incision. I should be getting them out Wednesday and hoping doesn't hurt too much. :)
