@Josephine i have a bit of infection at the top of the wound. The nurse put a Manuka honey dressing on it. Is it ok to do that? She said it is and will be back on Wednesday to check it

@chereb
Honey does have some anti-bacterial properties.

However, I think it would be wiser to go to your doctor (or OS), let them have a look, and have a swab taken, because you might need antibiotics and you will need the correct one for your infection. With knee replacements, I don't think you can afford to take risks.

@Celle that was my thought. Will be speaking to my gp tomorrow anyway and see what i can sort out.

Googling manuka honey , which I'm sure you've done, says the antibacterial properties haven't been proven, don't take any chances . I'm sure you'll be fine but better err on the side of caution

Its is a hard operation. I became depressed after my TKR and really struggled with recovering. I am hoping im more prepared this time around and accepting of the down days.

I so understand this post. Could have almost written this myself xxx

Hope you're ok love Nana moon 27 x x x

Had a reasonable day today. The wound has a bit of a bigger lump today. Going to see gp in the morning to have it looked at again. When i spoke to the hospital on the phone they said it might be a stitch abscess. Maybe once they come out on Friday it will heal up.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm sure this is all going to help someone somewhere. I hope you get on ok Chereb. You deserve to. X

@Nana moon 27 when did you have your revision? I started reading through your thread today but it is really long. Why did you have a revision?? And are you now waiting to get a primary in your other knee? X

when did you have your revision?
Chereb,
I noticed you do not have your revision date in your signature, you can add it by hovering over your username top right, a drop down menu will appear, click on signature and add your information there, Thanks!
Hope the lump is nothing but a stitch, and you will be on your way to recovery soon,

@chereb
I hope you've seen your GP by now. What was the verdict on that possibly infected lump on your incision? I don't like that it has got bigger and I don't like that someone at the hospital tried to diagnose it by phone. It needs to be seen.

Please let us know what your GP says.

Tomorrow morning i see the GP

7 days post op

The lump isnt any worse and seems to be draining. Gp thinks possibly its the stitches and once they come out on Friday it will clear up. To have it checked again tomorrow to see if its still the same.
Pain seems a bit less today. Now have a cryo cuff and im enjoying it :-)
Managed to do 3 straight leg lifts which amazed me as it took me nearly 4 weeks with the primary TKR.
Still feeling pretty tired and sleepy but might be the medication. Doing gentle heel slides and estimating between 80-90 degrees rom and extension is 0.

Frances I had a bit of pus at the end of my scar which developed into a little hole, nurse came in daily to keep an eye on it. Turned out to be a stitch knot from inside working its way out. The district nurse 'dug' it out and it healed up fine. I had a cryo cuff when in hospital and I loved it! If I ever need my other knee done I'll be looking in to buying one. Sounds like you are doing well , it's early days yet.

Nurse was back in today. No pus just the lump and the redness has calmed down. Nobody seems to know about stitches. My discharge notes say suture removal on 13th but she said she cant find any tails. She called the hospital and they think it might be glued with a stitch at the top and bottom. They said once she looks at it again on friday if the lumps still a concern she had to refer me back to them.
Loving the cryocuff it makes such a difference to the pain.
My nerves must be waking up today as they have been partying all over my thigh haha.

Day 9

Have been managing around since yesterday on 1 crutch. Pain still under control and the burning pain getting up in the morning is getting less. Using cryo cuff most of the day and night. Swelling has reduced a bit in my ankle and lower leg. The stairs are getting easier now. We are 2 floors up in a loft conversion so 28 stairs to go up to bed and come down in the morning lol. 14 up and down when i need the toilet. Looking at it as good exercise. Feeling pretty lazy as i have done nothing except ice/elevate, eat, sleep and bathe. Husband goes back to work on Monday then the fun begins as im on my own. He has been brilliant and im going to miss him.

Please be careful with those stairs @chereb. Is there no way of reorganising your sleeping arrangements while hubby's at work so that you're not going up and down so much?

Btw, you're doing ever so well x :flwrysmile:
