Hinged Joint Revision Complete, recovery continues

Ask your PT they will know about taping. The tape can stay on 3 to 5 days, yes you can shower.

Hi Chris, just googled it. Around £7.00 for one (full knee spider pre cut). Says it can stay on for 4/5 days. That makes it quite expensive - about £42 (72 dollars) a month. Don't know if I could afford that. How good do you find it.

I cut my own, less expensive. 12 US for 5 meters, 16.4 ft, I use about 16 inches every other day. I had one on for three days.
Gives me about 50% to 25% relief. The tape has lines, for cutting. Your PT can show you how to do it your self.
I wiil keep track of how long the next roll lasts. I am using Kinesio tex gold.

In your opinion what are the advantages of the tape over say an elastic knee support?

For me, my kneecap hates compression, and I can only wear my knee sleeve for an hour before it starts hurting.
Tape is lighter, more flexible, compression free, and I can wear it for two to three days, it just works better for me.

compression free,
Will definitely give it a go. Interesting that it works even though its compression free. My elastic sleeve seems to work because it provides compression.

I've looked at the video on how to apply the spyder kineseo tape. All pre cut its simple. But can't imagine how I would apply/cut the roll of tape. As you say, I'll get it and ask the PT to show me how best to use it. Thanks for mentioning it Chris. It seems its quite common, but you don't know what you don't know.

I don't know about anyone else, my evenings are the hardest, my knee is tired, achy, and cranky. In the morning it will feel better.
:elevate: :chillpill::ice::walking::ice:

Well,

I can't say my knee is tired or cranky, but it can sympathize with you because my goto is tired and cranky at the end of the day! Of course I "chose":heehee: to break the foot that was on the same side as my revision.
Oh well, carrying this heavy cast on the leg will make the knee stronger!:snork:

Hi @Pumpkln - hope your weekend is going well. My sister-in-law just went to visit a physiotherapist and he taped her knee with that tape. She thinks it is working. It is the first time so I will get an update soon. Cutting the tape yours;f seems to be a better deal by far.

Did you get much swimming in this weekend? I was in yesterday but I am home alone today so I won't risk swimming by myself. It is stinkin' hot out so I would love to just jump in though!

@RestAssured having a cast on in the summer is a real pain I hope you recover soon!

@71Beetle Would love to just jump in, made it to the pool this morning, we had it to ourselves, so peaceful. Did my gentle exercises, and enjoyed my time in the water. My body feels good after getting out, nice to have that feeling, that has been absent of late. I agree, I won't swim alone until I am feeling much more confident.
Glad your sister is getting some help from the tape.
While at the pool I looked at my wet foot prints on the cement, I am walking on the outside of my foot on the TKR leg, and I mean the very outside. I am going to a running store this week, and will be telling them this, when I have purchased shoes in the past other shoe stores all try to put me in a stability shoe (my friends that wear the same size love me, and all the free shoes I give them). I am going to be sure I have a neutral shoe this time, no more wearing shoes that push me to the outside of my foot.
I have spent the weekend doing job one, getting the swelling and heat out of my knee. Back on the crutches and walker with partial weight bearing, on the ice machine, or ice packs and elevated as much as possible, and gentle exercises. Seems to be helping, swelling down, and angry heat is better.

Enjoying the football, a great diversion from the rest of my life.

Hi @Pumpkln, Glad that you got out to the pool today.

Yes, please get the right shoes - you don't want to go through all of this recovery just to have more issues due to ill fitting shoes! Too bad you don't live near @RunA42K - she would get you the best shoe for your needs with her knowledge.

Good for your for focussing on your knee. I do hope the swelling and heat goes down and stays down for you.

One thing I have learned from this journey is that I can take time to focus on myself. I am always focussing on others whether it be my hubby, kids, parents, sibling, friends, etc that I am the last person to get attention from me. Being forced to sit and ice and elevate and have others cater to you is something new and I am kind of liking it. I hope I can take a bit of time to myself after I am all better just to focus on me doing nothing but being. I am going to focus on that. I think we all should!

I must say, I am no longer watching much of the World Cup. I just got too frustrated with the diving that so many of the players are doing. It takes away from the spirit of the game and when the players act like cry babies, they lose their sex appeal too :). I'm still cheering for Germany and will continue to watch their games.

Hi Chris. I've been pretty busy, and for some reason not getting notifications from here lately. Oh, well. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you're doing so well. It's strange, how alike yet different our recoveries are. I have a hard time when I get up in the morning-seems that's when my knee is at it's worst, as opposed to you feeling best in the am. Anytime I've been sitting or lying down for any length of time my knee has a hard time walking at first, then as I walk it loosens up a bit. It's been somewhat stiff lately, my extension isn't doing as well as I'd like, and my flexion is about the same as it has been. I've been pretty busy with everyday living and have been skipping my exercises-not a good idea I know. Keep up the great recovery! Kim

@71Beetle @lovetocookandsew
Thanks for stopping by, going to watch the USA tomorrow! The acting injured does get old, just goes with the sport right now. Happy Canada Day tomorrow!

Kim sounds like you might need to get back to some of your exercises, are you still using the cycle you have?
Everyone recovers differently, I was busy this morning with PT, and went out to lunch with out too much problem, then this evening I really faded fast. I don't get alerts all the time either.

I needed the Kinesio tape on Saturday, my knee decided to flare up, with swelling, and pain, making me unhappy. Too much walking around the house seems to be the cause. Spent a lot of time following the mantra, and going back to my crutches and walker, made a big difference. Sunday I was much more comfortable, and the swelling was down.
I took the Kinesio tape off Sunday after swimming, my knee was tired of the tape, and my skin needed a break. Planning on using it again tomorrow.

Just walked a little with out the walker, and the peroneal muscles on the outside of my leg have decided to go into spasm, back to the walker for me.

@Pumpkln - Hi Chris, hope your team does well tomorrow! I missed the Germany game so I will have to get caught up. I am excited for Canada Day but it is supposed to rain tomorrow which will dampen the spirits of the people celebrating. (pardon the pun). I am going for lunch with a friend and will then relax for the day. My oldest boy is going downtown with his friends and the rest of the family is still up north. I am happy that I like my own company. :)

I hope you get some rest and that you feel better soon.

@Pumpkln, I still use the peddler, I have just been busy these last days-hubby had a 4 day weekend so we kept busy. I plan to get back to my regular routine-but he also has a 3 day weekend this weekend too...it's hard to keep to my own routine when he's home.....lol.

It is hard to keep up when people are around. I do not do a lot of activities/exercises, but they do make a difference.
Big thunderstorms here this afternoon. Suddenly it got dark and cold, had to put my sweat pants on, now the wind is blowing. What a day, starting with a nice swim in the warm sun, and now cold, rain, wind, thunder and lightening. A typical summer day!

Hope everyone had a healing, healthy day.

Dry and hot as heck here today.......not as hot as yesterday though. Had a good day with my knee today-no pain at all and easy to walk around all day. Some days it hurts and is swollen, but today was great.

Pumkin, I am glad you are doing better. The weather is interesting isn't it. I spent the day in the dentist chair and sleep rest of the day. Now feeling better. Hope the kneee is getting better but remember it is in control. I had to get some inserts that helped me walking so I hope the you find the shoes you want and need. Please take it slow. Tashia

Hi @Pumpkln - glad you got out to swim before the weather changed. I was wondering why I was sore today in other parts of my leg, then I remembered the swim from last night.

Hope you have a great day!

Finally made it to the shoe store, I have a brand new pair of Brooks Ghost 7's, in a 7.5 us wide. They were the only shoes that did not tweak my knee. Thanks to Bonnie's guidance I was able to communicate my needs to the shoe store employee, who brought out an appropriate selection of shoes for my high arched, wide, supinating foot (I walk on the outside of my feet).
Now I will give them a go in the house to be sure they are really the ones for me.

I found out I can do a plank, was wondering how that could be, I do not ever do planks. Yesterday while I was rolling my Iliotibial band, I noticed the position I was in, yep, a plank. Most people think I am a short, fat, out of shape, non exercising, senior citizen, teetering around on a walker :old:. Boy were they surprised.

Knee about the same, each week is better, I am very slowly improving. Work wanted me to come back in August for vacation relief, I had to tell them I did not think I would be ready. I feel if I go back to soon I will only set myself back and delay my recovery. It is at a snails pace as it is.

Wishing everyone in the US a wonderful and safe 4th of July, and a great weekend to everyone else.
