Hinged Joint Revision Complete, recovery continues

An old pattern has reared it's ugly head.
My SI joint is way out, my knee feels better. When SI good, knee hurts, and SI bad, Knee good.
This has been going on since 2008. There have been times when I find a balance but those have been rare.
Sitting on heat for my SI, ice on the knee.
OS appt in 3 hrs, time for a shower.

Pity party is over, I've just run out of Whine.

Love that @Pumpkln - I will be stealing it at some point. :)

It is tough when one body part improves and another acts up. Perhaps the pain in your knee was more than the SI so you ignored the SI. Or it could be like you say, the new alignment. Whatever it is, I hope you feel better soon. How was your OS appointment? Mine was great!

Take care of yourself!

Hi @Pumpkln I hope all goes ok for you with OS. Please keep us updated. I'm thinking of you please take care. Love Nana moon 27 xxxx what is SI ? Sorry I'm not. Very medical I'm afraid x

SI joint is the sacroiliac joint, where your sacrum and pelvis come together, it can slip out of alignment, for me due to a leg length difference. Wikipedia has a good drawing so you have a better idea of its location.

@patient 99 , this is an ongoing complaint, last time I had pain was in March.
You will read it is an uncommon cause of back pain, I disagree. I had to diagnose this on my own, and take a list of special tests to the MD, so he would agree, finally. I get trigger point injections 2 to 3x a year, they really help.
I am going to start the referral process for trigger point injections next week when I see my primary. It will help with my knee rehab if it is calmed down. Until then Voltaren and my TENS unit.

OS appointment went well, went over x rays, boy do I have a lot of hardware in there. Good news is it is the right size, last implant was a size too big.
Talked about my slow recovery, and all the work he did, and needing to be patient. We also talked about my knee has been unstable for a long time, the SI joint dysfunction, old gait pattern, and that old habits that will take some time to be sorted out. He wants to see me in three months.
He likes the way the knee looks, the alignment, and the stability.
Resting and icing right now.

Thanks everyone for stopping by and your good wishes, @Nana moon 27 , @JustJeff , @busylizzie , @Shortie, @hopefaith , @lovetocookandsew , @tashia, @kneeper , and everyone else who has stopped by my thread.

Pleased to hear that your OS appointment went well @Pumpkln! Nice to get a positive review isn't it? Hopefully you can get the SI sorted out soon. What can be done to fix the issue? Please don't say surgery is the next step...

how did you find out your implant was too big?
Looking at the X rays I could see the overhang, also I could feel the overhang under my hand. My old x rays are in post #60 page 3 of this thread.
When I get copes of this new implant, I will post them.

What can be done to fix the issue?
Trigger point injections, therapy, and exercises. I have a mild case compared to some, and this will pass.
Happy we both had good reports!:yay:.
Just woke up from a huge nap, felt great. It is only 6:45 PM and I am ready for bed :elevate:.
On the way home today we stopped for ice cream, we shared a Black and White Yummmmy

Hi @pumpkin, decided to come over to your thread to say Hello and hope you are not in too much discomfort. My you have been through a lot and still going through a lot. How did that happen with the over lay which made the knee longer than the other.. Really? My goodness and with the lower back pain. So sorry you are in so much discomfort. And you are always there to encourage others. I tell you, you are a trouper..:loveshwr::prayer: :yahoo:

@chestnc ,
Thanks for your encouragement, I know you have lots of problems with your RA and I admire you so much for how you move right along enjoying life and grabbing what ever joy comes your way.
The overhang was side to side, my left leg shorter from when I broke it in 1974, about 1/2 inch.
The good news is my knee is settling down a little bit, that is progress!

Great to hear you had a positive appointment despite needing to be patient (that is the worst bit!), I hope the treatment for the SI issues are done quickly and work well.

Have a good day.

Shortie x

@Pumpkln

I'm glad you had a good appointment with your OS.

Not so good about your SI joint problems, though. Back pain is miserable, isn't it? Do the pain medications for you knee help with the back pain at all?

I'm way for a few days, visiting relatives - several toddlers who will have grown and a new baby to see. The camera is charged up!

SI joint is the sacroiliac joint, where your sacrum and pelvis come together

The more I learn about the human body the more amazed I get. Your body has taken a beating. Short of a direct intervention from Jesus Christ it is going to be slow progress. The important thing is that things look good and little improvements are HUGH ACHIEVEMENTS.

I am definitely going to have words with @new knee in June so that she saves you the very best table in the house for when you reach the Promised Land. Just because its you, you can have a complementary ticket. I'll speak to Diana, she might pull a face at first:no-fin: (selling tickets to the PL is our new business venture), but she is a softy so wont so No. Now you have something to work towards and really look forward to. Your recovery will be twice as quick. xx Carol

ps: do you like salmon and cucumber sandwiches on brown with the crusts cut off (of course)?. They are very popular in the Promised Land Tea Shop.

Hi @pumpkin, tao tell you the truth, these last two days I have been so tempted to not go in as I was so uncomfortable and extremely tired..I sort of force myself to go in and get through the day. Thank goodness I have several friends and co-workers at work that we keep encouraging each other ... "It's almost Friday". I am so tempted to try to work part time, but I cannot afford a part time salary at this moment, nor could I afford for my benefit and younger son's benefits to be cut in half and to pay part is no fun at all. So far all I can do right now is continue to forge ahead. Hope you guys are feeling good.

@Pumpkln I am wondering how your appt. went. Today right? Hope it went well and you got answers about your knee.
