Hinged Joint Revision Complete, recovery continues

Oh my! It certainly is an overhang! It's a size too big as I see it. No wonder you are having pain in that area. I think it's likely an impingement of the fibular collateral ligament which would be stretched over that overhang. Only solution is a redo, I'm afraid.

Josephine,
I am grateful for your reply, to finally be validated that my pain is caused by the too large implant. The OS blew me off when I asked directly about the overhang. At the same time I am angry, frustrated, and feel betrayed by the OS. Prior to the surgery I asked him at least 2x prior about the size of the implant, and my concerns that it be fitted properly.
Time to start looking for a revision surgeon.
Last night I dreamt that I went in for another knee surgery, and when I woke up, the pain was gone. It was like my knee gave a big:sigh:.
Here's some :choc: and  for you.

The OS I have been wanting to see has agreed to see me. I will call in the morning and set up an appointment.:yay:

Pumpkin, I am so sorry to hear about your knee. There is a bright side and that is you now know. And that the pain is real. It really is surprises that people don't believe that you are in pain. Well it now out in the open. Now you can work on the solution. which is good. Make sure you stay out of pain and keep the swelling down. Do take care and please keep me posted. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

I have my appointment for June 27th, and am looking into other revision surgeons for a consult.
May 16th, have another consult in process.
Thanks everyone for your support.

Pumpkin,
Very sorry you are going through this. It is awful to feel betrayed and lied to by your first doctor. I am glad you are looking into a revision so you can finally get on the road to healing.
Minnie

Sending off material for second consultation today, hope they let me know soon if they will see me.
My husband and friends think I should go back to the first OS and see what he says. I would like to know what happened, he has an excellent reputation with TKR, and people are shocked when I mention his name. I will go back if I feel it will be helpful.
Also found out the hospital has gone from being a high volume TKR hospital to being a low volume TKR hospital, wish I would have known that a year ago.

Punkin, sorry to hear about your knee however the good side is you can get it fixed. Now this time you have so much knowledge that will help this being a full success. Keep me posted on how you are doing. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Pumpkin, I noticed you are on line. How are you doing? I know you have lots to think about but I wish you the best. Keep me posted. Take care and have a good day. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Thanks Tashia for your positive thoughts.
Yesterday day was rough, a long drive home from visiting Mom. The orange cones are in full bloom and slowed traffic.
Spoke with a friend of my brothers who has had two revisions, she gave me lots of information on revision surgeons in N. California. I told her about Bonesmart, she is going to check the site.
Feeling overwhelmed by this process, and the symptoms in my knee propel me to want faster answers. Most OS's have a 4 - 6 week wait for an appointment, so nothing will happen for awhile.
My biggest fear is the soft tissues around my knee will deteriorate making this even more complicated. Cutting back on activities seems to help keep things calmer.

Hi Pumpkin,

While I was waiting for my revision there was one exercise I could do that did not cause my knee to hurt more. I used a ball about the size of basket ball and just squeezed it between my thighs. I believe it helped keep my quads not lose too much muscle. I think you are a pt (?) so this may be an exercise you are aware of but I thought I would mention it just in case.

Minnie

Thanks Minnie. I will start doing the exercise. As a PT I am much better at figuring out how to help other people than myself. Your input is much appreciated.

Have my second consult set up for June 6th. I feel like I am finally getting somewhere.

Finding out different search engines give you different information about Docs. Going to be performing more searches on the MD's, for a more complete picture. I am finding the most popular one to be the most superficial.

My concern is all the rubbing and irritation on the soft tissue around the too large tibial implant, the pain is getting worse. I am afraid it eventually could damage the ligaments/tendons and other structures leading to an even more complex surgery. My implants are GenesisII, femur size 4, tibia size 3.
I have two appointments, and a third in process.

Can I wait to schedule the revision? Or should I proceed with the earliest available if the surgeon meets my criteria, and I am comfortable with him?

How many revisions should a surgeon be doing in a year? 2 of the surgeons I am looking at are young.
@Josephine:

Punkin, I was just thinking about you and I saw you on line. You must be comfortable with the surgeon. Your appointment is coming up and I do understand you being so concened. Are you using a walker so that the knee doesn't get all the weight? Or should I say knees. Please take care and make sure you stay safe. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Thanks Tashia,
I am very nervous with all of this. I don't use an assistive device, just limit the amount of walking I do. Getting to know all the electric carts in the stores. Elevation helps more than anything.
