Hinged Joint Revision Complete, recovery continues

I just got back from out of town, and will call OS. I am thinking from what I have read here, that an X ray is often not enough, and that I should ask for a CT scan if the X ray is normal. If answers are not satisfactory, I will seek a second opinion.
As it is I woke up with knee pain, just took some pain meds and am icing.
 
Have an appointment on the 29th.
Saw my massage therapist today, he said the soft tissue around the knee was very tight. It does feel better now. Keeping my fingers crossed that this was all it was.
Last week was stressful with Mom having her 5th skin cancer surgery in as many months. She needs additional care, but is not quite ready for that change. At least she has her traveling toilet riser.

Saw the OS on Wednesday, he did a physical examination only, and said everything looked fine and that it was unlikely anything was loose. I don't have much swelling, my knee looks pretty good. My knee continues to be painful and a little warm around the tibial component, the pain has reduced significantly since the increase in pain in early February. OS had a student with him and I felt that distracted from my appointment :tantrum2:. Now I go back in 6 months, his nurse said call if you need anything.
I see my GP on Wednesday and am going to ask her about an OS in the next town that was recommended to me, for a second opinion. Or she may have another referral for me.

Fast forward to Friday, a molar suddenly became painful in the afternoon, called the Dentist's home, he ordered some Keflex 500mg 4x a day (this has worked best in the past) for a possible infection. Started up the Vicodin, as needed. It took 2, 5/500mg to get the tooth pain down. I will see the dentist on Monday, hopefully get an ASAP referral for root canal or extraction. The nice part was the knee pain went away 100%, I could get used to that feeling. So now I am back to alarms to take my meds on time, may as well keep both the infection and pain at bay, my husband will drive me where we need to go.
So now I get to worry about the tooth infection traveling to my TKA knee, guess all I can do is take the antibiotics, pain meds and hope for the best.

Sorry about the tooth. Sounds like you got the antibiotics on board quickly though.
 
Pumpkin,Does it fell like you are being tested?? Hope your tooth feels better, nothing worse than teeth pain. Sometimes ibuprofen with the pain med helps the tooth.
How is your mom doing? I am keeping her in my prayers too. You have your hands full!! May I ask how old she is? She is very blessed to have such caring children looking out for her. She should be proud!!

My tooth is feeling better, antibiotics must be helping. I take celebrex and tylenol for pain, and adjust dose when I add vicodin. Monday I will find out what needs to be done.
Mom will be 89 this month, she is doing well after her surgery, a little weak, and upset about the skin graft on her face. The graft is looking better with time, she is adjusting. When you live that long you become pretty resilient.
OS did put his hands on my knee, did ROM, and strength, both good, at least I will give him that.
 
Chris,Glad you are feeling better.She is 89, God bless her! And still concerned about her vanity! My Mom will be 81, she needs her hip replaced, but says she is too old!! We gave up trying to convince her for now.
 
My Mother in Law had her right one replaced at 80 and her left one replaced at 90, she had no choice she fell. She did great, no problems, the hips outlived her.
 
Everything was going well with antibiotics, no pain from my tooth. Then after lunch today I started getting increased discomfort and the referred pain to my shoulder returned.
No warmth or actual tenderness around the tooth, it is not even sensitive to cold. Feeling nervous, keep checking my knee to be sure it looks and feels OK, it seems fine. Doubled up the antibiotic the last dose.
I will be relieved tomorrow, my appointment is at 10:30, just hope my Dentist can get me in with a specialist ASAP.
 
Up worrying about my tooth infection, and taking my antibiotic on schedule.
14 more hours until my dental appointment.
Search here turned up others with a similar problem in the past, at least I am not the only one. Best I should go back to bed and get some rest for tomorrow.
 
The tooth was unchanged in X ray, and the crown looks good. Because it is extruding, and painful, I am having a root canal tomorrow morning. The one behind it was the same way before I had a root canal, go guess they are alike.
 
Endo, said get your bite adjusted first, then comeback if it does not improve. A second tooth flared up last night, so they did a thorough exam to be sure I needed a root canal.
He went over all the x rays, and drew little lines to show me what he thought had happened after the one of my molars was pulled last summer. Everything has shifted a little and two teeth that did not touch are banging into each other.
Came home and iced my mouth, much more tasty than icing a knee or hip. I used Neapolitan Ice Cream, yummy, and everything feels better.:yay:
 
Chris, Ice Cream has a way of making everything feel better, doesn't it? Let's hope your knee doesn't act up until the teeth are taken care of!!
 
Finally decided to seek a second opinion, talked to the office today and am sending off reports, x rays etc. He will look it over tomorrow and they will let me know.
When I finally was able to check my x rays there is 5 mm posterior over hang, 3 mm medial overhang and 4mm lateral over hang of the tibial component. My knee wakes me up every night, feels like I still have arthritis, after moving around in the morning it feels better.
But my knee is better than it was before surgery, I can walk normally, just not very far. And I am back at work 20 hours a week. Was it worth it Yes, is the outcome what I hoped for not quite.
PS my teeth settled down!:happy dance:
I had the TKA OS send me all my old reports, one said I had a reverse shoulder arthroplasty and a hip replacement, all in one surgery. They are fixing it now.:scratch:
 
All my records were faxed to the new office this afternoon, hoping that he will agree to see me for a second opinion.

Really makes you have faith and trust in them when they mess it up like that, doesn't it? :DOH:
 
Finally have a copy of my x rays, and there seems to be significant overhang of the tibial component posterior 5mm, lateral 4mm, and medial 3mm. I would like Josephine's take on this. @Josephine:
My pain and discomfort are around the tibial component, more pain around the lateral patella, all the way to behind the fibula. Medial collateral ligament is painful if it gets stretched.
I will give it a go to post the x rays.
