Hinged Joint Revision Complete, recovery continues

Pumpkln, Hows the weather. Did you get some snow? We got lots of rain. Be careful with this weather. Take care. Tashia

My daughter got me some organic chocalate for Mother Day, I wish you were here so we could celebrate you good knee with the good chocalate. When we go for the ride on Saturday on the net I will bring some. take care. Tashia

Pumpkin, congratulations! Wonderful news. 19 months or so (for me it was 20), numbness from my peroneal nerve seems to have disappeared. This happened after 3 senior OS told me that any gains would stop at 12 months - not so!!!! Even though my numbness was not painful, it was very annoying, not being able to feel my foot. I feel so much better... am glad you do too

Good news is always good to hear! NHKneeLady, I've followed your earlier comments about crepitus but seem to have missed hearing about what you eventually did. Did you have surgery or did time just heal? I have similar problem now and have been following your progress. :dancy:

My 2 year check up is today. Going to ask the OS about my TKR inflammation, and knee pain.
When I was on steroids for my Asthma in September, my knee felt so much better, and I was able to do so much more.
I continue to feel my overhang contributes this discomfort.
(X rays are on Pg 3 of this thread (post #60) if you want to take a look at the overhang)
Everyone have a good day, and take it easy,

I have a bunch of inflammation too now. I have what's called "recurrent synovitis" of my TKR knee -- an aftermath of arthrofibrosis. They tested the fluid and it was deemed "synovitis of nonspecific origin." In other words, "We don't know." I can feel it's more effused and it's affecting my bend. I would love a shot of cortisone but know it's a no-no in a TKR knee. So fingers crossed it goes down. Finger's crossed yours gets better too.

Thanks Mary,
I am sure I have a lot of inflammation in my knee, and the surrounding bursae. ROM is OK -5 to 120.
My physiatrist injects steroids into the surrounding bursae for OS's in his practice, and would be willing to do the same for me.
I want to see what my OS says, before scheduling with the physiatrist.

OS appointment went well. OS could feel the warm area over the tibia implant lateral anterior surface. That with my complaints of pain, and increased pain with activity, he ordered CRP, Sed Rate testing, and a bone scan.
Already gave the blood samples to the lab and am awaiting approval from the insurance company for a bone scan.
He also mentioned there is a new cement that has been causing loosening between the cement and the prosthesis, so I will be sending him my sticker page with the type of cement used for my TKR.
He is going to set up a second opinion with Michael Ries MD, who has moved to the Sierras to be closer to skiing. He was formerly at UCSF. I have had him on my Radar for 1.5 years, and am happy to see him joining my OS's practice. He is a well known revisionist.
OS is OK with the steroid injection into the bursa, but did not think it would help much.
Feeling glad that additional testing is being done, and I did not have to ask.
After the appointment we went to Z Bistro in Carson City and had a wonderful lunch!

It sounds like your are staring to get some answeres. I wish you the best. With the cold weather I hurt today but I do know its just for right now. The shortest day is in December. I think its the 20th, they the light starts getting better. I am thinking about putting some lights up soon. Hope that you get more answers soon and of course get out of pain. Tashia

My TKR knee is feeling better, probably because I was able to get into the pool today after getting over swimmers ear. And the weather is better than the last week.
Received my lab results today:
Sedimentation rate 8, normal.
C Reactive Protein 3.2, normal.
Nothing shouting infection, now waiting for approval for the bone scan. Nervous about the dye, my aunt ended up on dialysis after receiving dye for heart blockage imaging. I will be sure to ask about this.
Everyone have a good weekend!

Pumpkin, I am so glad that the results were normal. I don't blame you being nerves about the dye. I don't think anything will happen but it sure pays off to ask. I will pray that everything will be ok and goes well. I went to the doctor today and he seem concern but added a another prescription but take but he did order tests. We will see. I hope that you can have good weekend and enjoy good weather. I do understand there will be a snow storm this week so please be careful. Take care, Tashia

Bone scan is scheduled for Friday. I asked about the dye, and was told there is no iodine in the dye to cause a problem with my kidneys. Since I will have to wait for the exam, we will go out to lunch after the injection, then back to the radiology department for the scan.
Cloudy but warm today, tomorrow is bringing cold weather here. We sure can use some rain/snow after two dry years.
Tomorrow is my Birthday, so I am just not going to think about all of this until Friday.
Take care and be safe,

Hi Chris, I've just caught up on your thread. I thought things had settled down for you to a bearable level so sorry to read you're facing more tests. Hope is goes well on Friday and Happy Birthday for Thursday.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes!
My knee has had good and bad days, when I described what was going on to the OS, he wants to be sure every thing is OK. If there is something that can be fixed I will proceed.
Otherwise my knee is good enough.

With all the time zones, my today is your yesterday.
I am on the US west coast, so it is Thursday for you, but Wednesday for me, and this is way too confusing. My Birthday is still for me, and was for you on the 13th.

Those time zones - I know what you mean. We have family in Orange County and I always think of them as 3 or 5 hours ahead, but yesterday depending on who is on summer saver time.

Having a bone scan tomorrow (15th) US west coast time zone. They are not using iodine, but in any case I would like that dye out of me ASAP after the scan, any suggestions?
I do plan on drinking plenty of water.

Hi!

When I had the bone scan done they said to drink lots of water! I drank almost a gallon that day to push the dye out! Good luck, and I excited about your revisionist!

Hi Pumpkln, yes drink pure filtered water, but add some lemon or even lime (although I prefer lemons) juice as the Vitamin C is a powerful vitamin to detox your liver, gallbladder, kidneys. This will do the detox gently without side effects of stronger detox methods...

Be careful with drinking large quantities of water in one hit, your cells will not absorb the water and in fact you will dehydrate quicker, because the water passes straight through to the kidneys and excreted. However, if you have the juice of half a lemon or a whole lemon in about a liter of water and sip this throughout the day, your cells will absorb the fluid and the you will maintain the vitamin C and you will achieve a better detox :)

Let me know how the scan goes honey :) a just tag me xx
