THR Review after 1 year - is it necessary?

Quick question. Does anyone else get hot flushes after surgery? I wake up covered in sweat too sometimes

Yes, I have had the hot flushes and I am still sometimes waking up in a hot sweat. I have put it all down to the medication too.

Come to think of it, I haven't had a "power surge" since surgery. That's what I call hot flashes of menopause. The things we have to endure as we mature!:heehee:

I am glad it is not just me! I thought i was done with menopause hot flushes so it must just be the meds. Soon be off them thankfully

@Fiona444 good 3week look back at lessons learned and progress made. It is funny the things we think of to use our recovery aids for. It has been an interesting ride and know we still have a long way to go.
:yahoo:

I mentioned you on Barbaraj's thread about how I shave my legs. I think you're a fellow posterior with precautions, so forgot to mention be careful not to twist your op leg inwards toward your knee to shave the back. It's a bit of a wing and a prayer to do the back calf of op leg without looking at it closely! :flabber:

Thank you @Calgal I will remember that. Also not so important as I cannot see the back so its not there :heehee:

@Elf1 Yep you are so right re the interesting journey with a long way to go. Always trying to run before I can walk :roseshwr:

Whoa, look at you, @Fiona444--all those great insights about your surgery and recovery! Very impressive that you came to all these realizations and then were clear-headed enough to write them all down. I could certainly relate to a lot of them. I've never gotten any hot flashes post-surgery, but then even when I was going through menopause I didn't, mercifully, ever experience those. I remember my doctor asking me whether I was getting those at the time and when I asked him what they were supposed to feel like, he said "if I have to tell you, you aren't getting 'em". Anyway, does sound like maybe medication is responsible and thus, once you're off that stuff, they will subside. Hope you had a good weekend and facing a new week with a smile on your face--another week down, and one week closer to full recovery!

Good Afternoon!
I enjoyed reading your reflections on THR. I can relate.
Happy Three Week Anniversary to you. I hope you have a wonderful day and week ahead.
@Fiona444

Thank you @Layla and @Barbaraj I wanted to get down a bit of a summary as it is amazing what we go through when we have a hip replacement and easy to forget. I thought I was done with the menopause and I never really minded the hot flushes as I am a cold person usually so to me they felt quite pleasant. These feel different as they leave me drenched. I think you are right it is the medication. Although I am only taking a really low dose it is probably just hanging around.

Today I had a lovely walk in the country park around a reservoir. I told my friend I was going stir crazy and bored, she immediately offered to collect me and one of my dogs and take us there. It was lovely and I walked around the whole of it with no crutch. Felt so good to be out and walking just about normally. Think we have rain tomorrow so will have to find something to do indoors. Looks like housework it is then :groan:

Thank you @Elf1 and a very happy 3 week anniversary to you too my hippie twin! You are doing great too! Before my op I think I read so many challenging stories that I scared myself stupid that it was going to be worse than it is. But seeing you, Barbara and Jules being done around the same time and all of us seem to be progressing very nicely. I know we all have our challenges but it seems they are the normal challenges that anyone would have after a surgery like this. Three cheers for all of us

You're doing soooo well for just 3 weeks! The next few will be amazing as you turn corner after corner. Hang in there, even when you feel stalled - something's going on inside that will show itself later. :thumb:

Thank you @linette333 and @Calgal ! My leg does feel really strong so I guessed it would be OK to do. I have not used a crutch around the house for a week or so and this felt like a natural progression. It is much easier to manage a dog without getting the lead wrapped around it too :rofsign:

I am enjoying an extended period away from work although i feel guilty and don’t like that i am not being paid.
Being fit before surgery has really helped
Ice packs are my best friend and i never would have expected that as being cold is a big fear of mine
I sweat alot after surgery

I feel you on all of these! So glad to hear you are doing so well @Fiona444 and we are still at the beginning of the recovery. I keep thinking of that graduation book by Dr Suess.. "Oh the Places you'll go!"
that's all of us hippies!

When I was working, it felt so good to be not working in recovery - I can totally relate. As much as recovery can be somewhat challenging at times, it was nice to be able to concentrate on it without the work stressors. I think some of this was also due to working in pain for quite a while pre surgery. Do not feel guilty, this is your time to recovery and work on that.

I'm not ready to give up the cane. My leg from my bum to my complaining knee is still aching. Go back to walker in the evening to give everything a rest. Maybe next week I'll be able to set it down. Sleeping is much better at night!

I hope today is another hopeful day on your recovery journey, @Fiona444 That's so great your walking without any assistive device now--doesn't it feel great? Sure, I suspect you're not walking fast or with great fluidity, but just to stand up straight and walk must feel marvelous. Your walk with a friend and pups sounded so pleasant. I can't imagine trying to handle the challenge of dogs on a lead as my balance, while decent, might not survive that, but as a dog owner I'm sure you're much more educated than I am about how to corral your canine friends and make sure they don't trip you up. You're doing great--full recovery here you come!
