THR Renee's hip number two...I'm ready!

Hi all. I was released mid afternoon yesterday. Feeling pretty good. The pain level is more with this hip replacement, but it is getting better. Unfortunately the first few days were almost unbearable even with some very strong meds. I am home with percocet, ibuprofen and tramadol. I don't like taking narcotics, but this time it was the only thing that worked. The nurses and PT in the hospital said the first time around I was a "rock star". LOL I guess I shouldn't have expected to be a rock star the second time! Oh well. Doing ok now resting at home. Anxious to take a shower tomorrow. Thank you all for your well wishes.

Well said Bill. I'm so glad you are home Renee ....I think you are doing really well.

This hip is probably jealous that it can't live up to the others rock start status and so wants to be a bit special ....

Seriously, I think you are doing really well, remember you have had 2 blood transfusions and major surgery as well as major surgery just months ago

I'm giving you a gold star!!! Keep up the good work:thumb:

Thank you @Vetgirl . I hope you are continuing to recover and get your second new hip soon. You've been through so much more than me and are quite an inspiration. I did a lot of sleeping today and still feel sleepy. The pain meds do that to me as well as just plain recovering from surgery. Every day will be a bit better. That I know for sure. :)

Go bamagirl, and nothing but positive thoughts and prayers. I am headed for second RTHR on June 9, so we have that in common. How are you today? My LTHR was on April 9...

I see I haven't updated in a few days. I'm doing pretty dang good. I'm off the percocet since Tuesday. I don't want to take it if not needed. So just ibuprofen and one 100mg tramadol per day. I was taking the percocet because I had this awful burning in my thigh and that is almost all gone. I'm able to take care of myself and get my daughter up and ready for school in the morning. So my husband went back to work today. So all in all, I think things are going great! I couldn't believe last night I slept 5 hours without waking up. I can't remember the last time that happened. And I only woke up because one of the dogs needed to go outside.

Wow! That is so encouraging to hear you are doing so well! :catdance:

Things are still going smoothly. I'm actually forgetting to take the ibuprofen sometimes. I went like 10 hours yesterday and then started to get some pain and remembered I hadn't taken any pills! Sleep is so great now. No more pain. It is so amazing. I start PT on May 9th. That is the same day I see my OS and get my staples removed. I've already ditched the walker a few times and used a cane. Feels good. I'm able to drive. Went to a doctor appt yesterday to have the sutures checked and get my PT order. Wasn't with the OS, but the PA who assisted him in the surgery. I then went by the office to pick up my paycheck. Felt good to get out. Came home and iced but felt pretty good. Not too tired. I am just so grateful to be passed these two surgeries and on my way back to a "normal" life. :happyfeet:

@bamagirl, I can see by the adorable "happy feet" penguin that there's going to be no stopping you now that you've got two bright shiny new man made hips.

Oh I have to tell you, the day after my surgery the nurse anesthetist came by the check on me and asked if I remembered crying in the operating room. So funny because that is the last thing I remember. He was putting in the spinal and I started crying. He thought he was hurting me but I said I was just so happy to be getting this second surgery and knowing the arthritis pain will be gone. He said I shouldn't cry because it will make it harder to breath. LOL He seemed to get a kick out of it.

@bamagirl I am so happy for you!!!!!! :catdance:
It is always encouraging to read your posts! I hope and pray I do as well as you next week... just a few days for me! My daughter is getting nervous and saying she is worried... :boohoo: I am trying to keep a brave face and keep everyone distracted.

Congrats on getting that second hip done and behind you, Onward and upward for you!!

Talk to me Bamagirl! I am right behind you for my second THR on June 9. I am getting nervous. Yes, my right hip is killing me today and not my left, but I want to know how you are feeling, please. Fear of dislocating with both hips replaced? Where is the pain today? Thanks for listening...

@waterman1 My pain level is what I would consider normal now. Just the stiffness and sometimes a little pain if I overdo it. I had some nerve pain with this hip replacement and took a while to control, but that painwas pretty much gone within a few days. I can walk with a cane now and took my daughter to preschool today. Then I actually went to Walmart and walked around a bit to pick up a few things. I was sore when I got home, but not something a little rest and ice couldn't fix. Feels good to walk around without the arthritis pain. Don't worry. You'll do great and be so happy when it is over. I was very emotional before the surgery because I knew this nightmare was finally coming to an end. :)

So I'm 2 weeks out and had my staples removed today. Have a follow up with the OS in 6 weeks. This afternoon had my first PT appointment. Boy are my muscles tight! My range of motion is sure limited in some directions - more than I realized. So I have some specific stretches to do and some exercises. I think the PT is really going to help increase my ROM. I could probably go back to work part time next week, but I've decided to take one more week and go back on the 19th. Why not! :)
