Well guys I'm feeling better but PT was very painful. Definitely different from my first surgery. I'm going to get some morphine before the next session. Hopefully that will help with the pain. Still on a liquid diet which sucks. Hope to get regular food tonight. Will update when I can.

Hi Renee @bamagirl definitely get those pain meds on board before the next PT session and remember the BS mantra.....if it hurts don't do it!!!! And ice ice ice....especially after PT

Why are you on a liquid diet??????

Hope today is better for you

Well the pain this time is a nerve pain. Found out they haven't been giving me the meds for that for some reason. So they are supposed to give me something new soon because the morphine did not help. I've been on a liquid diet due to the nausea I had yesterday. I am starting solid foods now.

Thanks for explaining that....hope it all I proves soon!!!!!

Well got the catheter out and got up to use the bathroom. That felt good but the pain was still like an 8 or 9 when I try to put weight on it. They have got to find something that will control this pain. I'm disappointed right now that I still have so much pain. I know each hip is different.

Definitely be the squeaky wheel regards adequate pain med cover @bamagirl and are you able to get ice packs?

Thank you @Poppet . I am definitely being a squeaky wheel! I think we found a combination that takes the edge off the pain. I'm down to about a 6 now when I put weight on that leg. Doesn't make me burst out in tears anymore. I'm keeping the hip iced too. Right now I was able to get up and use the bathroom and am sitting in one of those reclining chairs waiting for breakfast. I have many of the same nurses that I had the first time around and they all comment how I am in more pain this time. I will keep pushing through. I know it will get better soon.

I just wanted to let you all know that my PT session went great. The pain actually lessened as I got up and walked around. Was able to get out of my room and walk the hallway. I'm feeling much more optimistic now. My blood count is a bit low so they want to see that go up before I go home.

Yeah Renee :) I;m glad things are going better for you today. :dancy:

Oh that is wonderful news, I am so pleased for you :)

Had to get 2 units of blood. Should be going home tomorrow. Still painful getting up and walking but not unbearable. Oh and got my hair washed this morning. That made me feel better. I will update again tomorrow.

@bamagirl , glad they are taking care of your low red blood cell count. Glad your pain is better, keep up the good "healing" work!

Well that is great news!!! @bamagirl ...a combination of getting the meds right and now some ebnergy from the blood transfusion plus getting your hair washed will make you feel like a new woman!!!!

I remember from others who had their hips done within months if each other that the second op was more painful than the second!!!! Let me know if you want their names to read their threads.

Keep up the great work. One thing that has helped me with all my recent hospital visits (I have spent a total of a month there since Sept) is that all the nurses are more like friends now!!!!

Onwards and upwards for you Renee

@bamagirl Hi! I had both my hips done last fall, a month apart. My second hip (the right) was a bit harder than the first one, but that was because it was more messed up, and the socket was also messed up and took more fancy surgery to make it all work together. I was very blessed in that I really had very little pain post-op because of the great pain control I received from surgeon and hospital. The second hip took longer to reach the recovery milestones than the first one did, but my OS warned me about that so I wasn't troubled by it. I DID get overzealous and did too much too soon with the second hip and wound up with piriformis syndrome/inflammation (whatever they call it) and some resultant sciatic pain which drove me nuts for several weeks after the second surgery and kept me down longer than if I had acted like I had some sense and taken it easier longer.

I am doing fine now and am so glad I had them both done. Recovery was kind of a long haul, but SO worth it. Please let me know if I can be of help or encouragement. I sure needed a lot of both when I was in the early days (and later on, too).

Peace and love to you.

It is amazing what a few units of blood does to the energy levels @bamagirl - I had five in ICU - don't remember them, but was ready and raring to go once I got to the surgical ward and started moving.. So pleased you have the pain med protocols sorted and.... best of all.... nothing like getting a shampoo.... makes a girl feel more normal.. Looking forward to following your journey x

Thank you all. Waiting now to see if I get released today. I don't see why not.

Good luck @bamagirl let's hope you get home.

Do you feel better after the blood transfusions?

@bamagirl You have a great attitude Renee. Keep up the great work. Slow and steady - things will improve!
