TKR Patience really is a virtue….

That must have been so scary!!!! I'm glad your ortho could reassure you.

lost my balance and fell straight onto my knee , head butting my TV unit in the process
This is something we all fear. These implants can really take a beating, but not our soft tissues.
after my little mishap yesterday evening my knee feels tight and sore today, however, my consultant was very pleased with my progress when I visited today.
Next visit to see him will be in 10 months time, unless I have any issues, which hopefully I won’t.
While I’ve been stressing about my ROM he’s happy with where I am and said it will continue to improve over time…. He’s not a fan of MUAs unless he can see that there is really no bend at all.
Thank God, you're OK and your doctor is happy with everything! I love his stance on MUAs. I wish more doctors were this sensible.

Great update, @Loulou67 ! Enjoy your break from going out for PT and have a Happy Holiday season!

Whew! Sorry about the tumble. It must have been frightening.
Thankfully you're okay and had a great visit with the consultant.
Hopefully by Christmas the tightness and soreness will only be a memory.
Best Wishes, Loulou!

So 9 weeks post op now…….. after my little tumble Weds eve my legs been really tight and sore, so I spent yesterday doing nothing but icing and elevating….. I even resorted to taking codeine before I went to bed last night….
After a night of broken sleep I felt loads better this morning and have just been out for a little walk.
Only managed a mile and had my cane with me because it’s very breezy here in the UK .
Felt so good to get out in the fresh air.

We have family visiting later today and my partner is working a night shift tonight so another early night for me should see me right for tomorrow.
Merry Christmas to you all, and thank you for reading my posts and sharing your journeys and your advice.

Thank you for updating us!!!! Best wishes for the holidays!

I am another one who fell on her replaced knee. It happened last year, the day after Christmas. I was almost 6 years post op, with a PKR. My knee and leg swelled up big time and I had very little ROM. I waited about a week and a half before going for an X-ray, and the X-rays were fine.

It took my leg 2 months to really heal and get my ROM back. I did no exercises but the bend returned as I healed. It sure doesn‘t take much to anger those soft tissues, even years later.

Knee was very stiff and sore yesterday from standing preparing and cooking Christmas dinner and then sitting down to eat, felt a bit better this morning but now after cooking Boxing Day lunch and sitting at the table eating and then playing board games my leg and foot have swollen up….. at 9 weeks post tkr I thought these days were over?? How long will this continue I wonder? Feels like 1 step forward 2 back at the min
Hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas …. I’m looking forward to being more active in 2024….. hopefully!!

I’m sorry to tell you that my leg still did that at 4+ months. You still need to cater to your knee this early in this year long recovery. :console2:

Um... er... nope. I know, it's like Enough Already!!!!
As functional as my six month old knee is (in terms of walking and ROM), it still objects loudly and clearly if I sit or stand too much.
When sitting, try short five minute walks every half hour. When standing for meal prep, etc, try changing things out (earlier in recovery I would alternate between standing and perching on a high stool; also asked MDH to fetch me ingredients and put them away.

Lucy isn't much better about standing for more than a few minutes. We will improve on that one. Patience required!

It's still early recovery in the entire scheme of things and it's only been one week since you took that tumble.
Brighter days filled with more activity await you in 2024...just not today.
Hang in there!
@Loulou67

So this morning , after 10 weeks , I drove my car again….. finally feel like I’m getting my independence back….. leg felt a bit stiff after but I expected that.
My next goal is to walk “ properly” ….. I’m still struggling to not limp….. my operated leg still feels stiff , but I know I’ll get there….

Yay for driving again! :driver:
My next goal is to walk “ properly” ….. I’m still struggling to not limp
Here’s a tip -
Try heel-toe walking when you're limping.
This involves striking the ground with your heel first, then rolling through your heel to your toe, and pushing out of the step with your toe.
It takes a concentrated effort, but I believe you'll notice a difference. Give it a try.
Happy Thursday!
