TKR Patience really is a virtue….

Yes, this recovery is like a rollercoaster, up one day, down the next. It does get better. :console2:

I bet you did something different that has aggravated your knee. It might be something as simple as moving wrong in your sleep. Your knee is still a baby and it doesn't take much to upset it. Give it a few days of extra rest, ice, and elevation.

So I’m 8 weeks post op this Friday…. I have physio tomorrow.
My bend is definitely improving, in my opinion, I can even slowly walk upstairs “properly “ .
I’m sleeping better although I do wake up a lot during the night.
Yesterday and today I’m just feeling so tired….. I just did a few bits around the house yesterday and I had visitors for a couple of hours.
Today I can’t even muster up the energy to get out of my pjs….. I’m bending, stretching, icing my leg and just pottering about the house but this is the most tired I’ve felt in weeks…. Is this “normal”?

Yes, it is normal. You're not alone in experiencing this.
Our body's energy supply isn't limitless. So when we're in healing mode after major surgery
our energy will be used for healing first, not leaving a great reserve for all the other activity of daily life. It is completely normal to feel tired for quite some time. How long....most likely relates to your body's rate of healing. Making our best effort to get adequate sleep and rest is beneficial. Our body does the best healing while we're sleeping. So no worries, just rest when you're able and mete out the activity you engage in during these early weeks as you're body is healing. A great rest of the day to you, Loulou!

I had to go back through my recovery thread... At two months, I took my longest walk so far (.8 mile) in the morning, and then after resting did one hour of my seated volunteer work (of my usual three hour shift) ...Ended up falling asleep in the recliner for two hours that afternoon plus slept over 9 1/2 hours that night!
Yep, "normal" :heehee:

Sounds like you’re doing well, LouLou. I am happy to hear that. I am feeling the energy drain today, myself. I did a lot yesterday, so today is a rest day. I think it’s very normal!

Good visit to physio today….. flexion was 92 degrees and with a bit of work got it to 105 degrees….. just need to work on my quads….. gentle massage and a bit of heat to loosen them up a little….. got a few more exercises to try at home and then back Jan 10th ….. happy bunny today ….. consultant appt next Thursday…… finally feel like I’m heading in the right direction ……. and I’ve done it the Bonesmart way :happydance:

Love good news!!! :loveshwr:

Happy Two Month Anniversary, Loulou! :wave:
Good luck with your appointment with the Consultant tomorrow. Please let us know how it goes if you feel like sharing.
Best Wishes for a very Merry Christmas! :santa-dance:
@Loulou67

Thank you :flwrysmile:
I’ve noticed this week that my calf and ankle have a bit of swelling, I’m assuming that this is because I’ve been either on my feet more or I’ve been sitting upright in a chair rather than having my leg elevated?
Again, I’m very tired this week….. hopefully this is normal for 2 months out ?
Other than those 2 minor things all seems to be okay….. fingers crossed for tomorrow x

I believe the consultant will reassure you that both fatigue and swelling are considered normal this point. :thumb:
@Loulou67

At two months, yep I had swelling and fatigue on each of my TKAs.
On my L, the swelling was gone by 12 weeks; on my R there is still some swelling at 6 months despite it being quite functional.

It’s 4.30am and I’m feeling very sorry for myself right now.
Yesterday evening I had a little tumble at home. I went to pick something up from my fire hearth, lost my balance and fell straight onto my knee , head butting my TV unit in the process…. I swear it all happened in slo motion!!!
My knee is now very stiff and I see my consultant at 9am this morning! :gaah:
Hopefully no damage done and I can still bend past 90 degrees!!

Oh no! sorry to hear that, hope there is no real damage but I’m sure it hurts even though probably just soft tissue. My surgeon told me it was really hard to damage the implant unless I had a fall that would have broken a bone before the implant.

So….. after my little mishap yesterday evening my knee feels tight and sore today, however, my consultant was very pleased with my progress when I visited today.
Next visit to see him will be in 10 months time, unless I have any issues, which hopefully I won’t.
While I’ve been stressing about my ROM he’s happy with where I am and said it will continue to improve over time…. He’s not a fan of MUAs unless he can see that there is really no bend at all.
No physio appointment till Jan 10th so just home physio till then…. Time to relax and
enjoy Christmas…..then let time heal me
