So glad that you have. Got the pain somewhat under control Bill@fulafoto.......good news too about the wheelchair. It provides a lot of freedom...I used one for 9 months prior to my op and it saved my sanity....being able to use it for a walker on good days and to sit in when the pain got too bad. It seems funny you saying the first day of winter when we are just starting summer ....! Hope that consultant gets back soon for you. Chrissie xxx

Thanks so much @miaow27 Gill and yes I hope he hurries back too :yes: These patches seem to have done the job so far - it's 5:30pm on Sunday here and I haven't had any painkillers or ice since last night and the pain has not escalated above a 5 all day:egypdance:. I feel quite tired and have done all day but if that is the only side effect I don't mind at all.
Not today @Poppet as it has been rather dank outside but I have been wheeling around the house. Tomorrow is another story - off to the shops for my first real big adventure in my wheelchair :yes!:

That's so true Bill...it does clear your headspace....having the wheelchair as a back up....just in case the hip pain overwhelms and you can't move. I refused so many social invitations prior to getting the wheelchair ....it's strange but in it's own way provides freedom....! X

I think decision always comes down to surgeon. There are a million surgeons and several ways to perform the procedure. Anterior, posterior - all have risks and benefits. What matters the most is the right person with the right experience to lessen the risks. The more they've done it and with the greatest skill and success - the better your possible outcome. Personally I didn't care about posterior vs anterior, restrictions or not - I wanted the most qualified and skilled OS in there doing my hip!!!

This was how I felt with my walker for the 18 months Bill, @fulafoto and Chrissie, @Hoppy Nanny until finally, we went and looked at an electric scooter wheelchair.

It is so important Bill, to keep some semblance of connection to the outside world because it is easy to be one withdrawn and isolated whilst waiting. I was like that! However, I am pleased that with the morphine pain patches which should moderate your pain and the wheel chair and your beautiful wife you will hold onto your sanity my friend and get through this.

I know how difficult this is, try to focus on the future - you will walk pain free! We are walking alongside you and we will help you get across the line Bill xxxxxxx

Hi @frieds - did you mean to post this on this thread? :)

Bill@fulafoto Happy to hear that the pain patch is giving you some relief and the wheel chair is giving you back some freedom to get around. Praying that your OS will have a date for you soon:)

You're so right @Poppet about keeping connections with the outside world. I go sometimes up to a week between excursions out and find I am a bit stir crazy by the end of that time but the wheelchair will help that enormously and I feel for you Chrissie @Hoppy Nanny - I have turned down a lot of invitations myself but not now.
Thanks @teakea66 and would you believe I haven't had ANY pain meds or ice since Saturday night and it is now Monday afternoon here!!! Very happy with that side of things although I was in bed by 8pm last might which is very early for me. I am quite sleepy most of the time but that is little price to pay.

Hi Bill @fulafoto !
Just stopping by to say HI, and let you know I was thinking of you.
Glad to hear you got a chair and your patches have you feeling better.

Hi Fulafoto
If good wishes could kill your pain, you would have none. So glad you have found something that gives a little relief. Hope it can hold you over until you get the major pain killer -- surgery! Sending good thoughts and wishes for that day to come soon!

Thanks Claire @MajorHeidi and thank you for stopping by. Your kind thoughts are always appreciated. Had a wonderful outing in the chair today but ended with a little pain.
My DW is exhausted but we worked out I must have rolled about a mile in total under my own steam which is terrific. Hands held up really well with the gloves and my shoulders feel terrific. The only slight, and it is very slight, down was getting into the chair first time at the shopping centre today I twisted a bit and got a sharp twinge in the hip. It has ached off and on but is quite bearable (about a 4-5 at worse). As far as the chair I asked my DW when we can go out again and she just rolled her eyes at me!!!

@Rhonda K - thank you so much for your kind wishes - that was lovely of you to say that! As I said on your thread it is a day by day proposition and one thing I have learned and grown in is patience. As far as pain at the moment I am managing well apart from an overall tiredness that just seems to come over me all of a sudden - I guess that is a side affect of the patches. Yes like you Rhonda I am hoping for a surgery date as soon as possible but am trying not to stress about it. As the saying goes - worry about the things you can control. I sincerely hope your date is very soon as well :)

I am so pleased the wheel chair is bringing you back out into the world Bill, @fulafoto - now we just have to pray for that date for you...

Hugs as always mate for you and your dearest xxx

@fulafoto I am praying that you get your surgery date soon. I was lucky to get a surgery date a little over 2 weeks after my consult with my OS. I really do feel for you. The several days leading to the surgery was brutal. I was told both of my hips had collapsed. I am glad the pain patches and wheelchair are helping your mobility. You have such a positive attitude and that alone will take you far.

Hi, Bill. Was just reading your thread & wanted to say I used a chair (portable, transport chair so I couldn't wheel myself) for a few months prior to my THR. I couldn't go to the movies or to the theatre without it! Up until recently I still kept it in the car for "in case of" times, but I'm hoping I'm past that. In any case, if it opens up the world to you, it's all worth it. Like your other BS friends, I am SO hoping you join us on the other side ASAP.

You really sound patient. If you're cursing & screaming & banging your head against the wall in the privacy of the "real" world, we'll never know, but you sure sound like you've got it together. Soon, my friend, soon. Wishing you all the best.

Thanks very much Ellen @shrinkette and yes I am very keen to become a hippie with the rest of the crowd!

I had a not too pleasant day today tempered with the terrific news of Sally @Vetgirl.

I was up at 4am with pain again and received a phone call from my boss who was driving past and asked if she could call in for a cup of coffee which I thought was nice.

She came in and asked how I was to which I told her I am now wearing the pain patches. She immediately told me all about her friend who is on liquid morphine for terminal cancer - definitely a sad story.
She finished that conversation and moved onto her daughter's surprise wedding early in July including pics of all the dresses and suits.
She then moved on to her son's engagement and how wonderful the new daughter in law to be was. By this time I had my DW get me two ice packs and I am siting in the recliner.
Then my boss gives us the itinerary for her cruise that her and her husband are going on in September, and then the plans for next years holiday in south east Asia.
She mentioned work and the amount of work that is building up and the stress of my co workers due to the workload and new procedures that have been put in place.
Next she advises that it's time to go and asked oh, have you got a date yet?

Well, that was it. 2 hours of listening to her plans. I'm sorry and I might be being a bit precious but if I were in a reversal of the situation I would take the time to ask a bit more about how the person is traveling, how they are managing with things etc.

It really has upset me and I feel that I don't want to go back to work when all this is over.

I recall Josephine mentioning that these are work colleges and not friends and I have never felt it more than I felt it today, even my DW was disgusted and upset by it all.

That's my rant - over and out! .... oh and I rang the hospital today - no further news on when the OS will be returning from overseas.

Bill- that lady sounds exhausting! I've never heard you upset before- and I feel cross on your behalf. People just don't think. She probably thinks she was doing you a good turn by visiting. At least you have friends here who get it.
I'm glad to hear the pain patches are working. I think pain in general can also make you tired as well as the morphine. I hope you hear something soon - you have been so patient and such a supportive friend to so many on BS.
With happy thoughts sent downunder ;):):D Gill

Thanks so much Gill @miaow27 yes she can be exhausting and I don't often carry on like that but really felt I needed to vent and you're so right - I do have lots of friends here that do get it!
With the patches I find I do feel tired and washed out a lot of the time and I seem to hit a wall of tiredness that creeps up all of a sudden, so sudden that my DW found me asleep at the computer the other night!
