@Vetgirl - yes it was really nice to get away for a few days Sally and escape these 4 walls!!

@Poppet The Dr put me on Keflex 2x500mg twice a day so in effect 4 a day. I will get some probiotics tomorrow!

Look forward to hearing from you over the weekend @Poppet

Wow....I'm lucky then @fulafoto and @Poppet I was on 2x 500mg four times a day. And I've only had the runs a few times. I do take a probiotic though so many that accounts for the lack of discomfort or because I don't eat much. Funny, I've been putting on weight though!!!!!

I meant to say that it is fantastic that the Dr got good margins with the cancer

@Vetgirl wow that is a lot of antibiotics Sally :yikes: and I will definitely get the probiotics this morning!
Thanks also re the margins - the Dr seemed shocked it was an actual cancer so I am glad it is all gone :yahoo:

Hey Bill, I'm a bit late too, but I wanted to congratulate you on getting your date on the calendar. Now you can see there is a light at the end of the tunnel. So happy for you. Best of luck as you count down the days.

she prescribed Keflex for me - do they play up with your toileting? I have been going nearly continually!
Geeze yes! I have to be sure I take probiotics all the time I am ever taking abx. Defo sore bum time!

So glad Bill @ fulafoto that the op went well and a good prognosis.... Not so good about the keflex though.... Hope that resolves soon . Bet you needed that trip! Hope your OT appointment goes well.... Good to get organised early .... Take care Chrissie xxx

@fulafoto Bill, glad they got everything in that one spot.
I started taking probiotics, too in preparation for the surgery.....

Hi all, I had a visit from the OT today at our home and most things seem to be in order. She measured my leg from foot to knee and then all the furniture I will be sitting/laying on. My recliner is way too low however she is sending a design for a platform raise for it which I will make with the help of my DW. We need to buy a couple of things - a foam cushion that raises me 10cm (about 4") for the office chair and dining chair and I will also use that in the car. We also need a bottle for nighttime to save trips to the toilet and a long handled shoe horn and we should be set. She mentioned the 90 degree rule and I rattled off all that I have learned here including how to get into and out of the car - she was very impressed and I told her all my knowledge came from here - she reckoned I could educate others on it all!
So now all I have is a visit to the physio when they call and bloods and urine on 14th April before my pre-op appointment on 16th.
Generally I have not been sleeping at all well due to pain in both hips - have been transferring between the bed and the recliner and not finding much comfort in either of them - I got to sleep about 6am this morning and twice this week about 3am. Tonight (it's 7:30pm here now) I am trying to stay awake for an hour or so more and then try to get some sleep as I am feeling like I am becoming nocturnal.

Well Bill @fulafoto sounds like you are all set to go!!! Glad that you will be super organised.
So sorry you are in so much pain at the moment... It sounds like your op date can't come fast enough.....! Not long now and you will be able to go to sleep and stay asleep. Well Bill Im 6 months post op and doing all I need to do with my new hip.... Spent 3 hours gardening yesterday with no repercussions .... How good is that? Your turn soon... Take care... Chrissie xxxx

Before you know it Bill, your day will be here - so pleased you have everything ready. I was thrilled to read that the probiotics are helping. Actually, I was reading a medical research journal the other day indicating that healthy gut flora is key in so many inflammatory conditions, not just the arthritic type. Stick with them my friend xxxxxxxxx

Hi @Poppet - thanks so much for your post! Good to know that I may be doing more than just this tummy of mine good with the probiotics.
All is going well - I had a physio appointment today at the hospital to go through the operation etc however I reckon I could have told her more than she told me - told her about Bonesmart and the wonderful support and information and she seemed interested. It was a group meeting (me and another bloke!) and he was very informative - he had his right hip replaced 5 years ago by the same surgeon and he (the OS) apparently didn't do a real good job - made his right leg 1 1/2" longer and this has caused his left hip to give in. He also needs both knees replaced at a future time! He had a build up on his left shoe similar to mine so here is hoping the OS does the same to me and evens me up!
He also showed us his scar and gave me some other information about the hospital protocols etc so that will be handy - one thing that he is going to check tomorrow is that he was given two suppositories - one for the night before and one for the morning of the op with the instructions to stay close to a toilet. Now that is fine except he (like me) lives about 40 minutes from the hospital so will definitely have to sort that one out. He goes in for his on Thursday.
Also got some news of a photographic nature today. One of my photos has been included in a gallery of 24 photos from an Australia wide project called "My Ride" on ABC Open. This is the link if you want to see it; https://ab.co/NNfBAK

@fulafoto Good Morning and thanks so much for the link to the photos - just beautiful, congrats. Sounds like you are making progress toward your big day. Keep up the great work.

Hi Bill @fulafoto....glad all going well and all your pre op 'stuff' is almost ready. Loved your photo in the link....great shot...well done on getting that inserted. Not long now....! Chrissie xxx

Hi Bill, (can't sleep... 4:29am - must be getting in practice for you, just in case you have sleepless nights during recovery and we can chat online in real time.)

It is real now my friend! All these months of waiting! So pleased BoneSmart has provided you with good information! I only wish we lived closer and I could come have a natter... one day!

I Loooooove your photo! - that it a real honor to get one published - well done you! Typical colors of Northern Queensland isn't it, @fulafoto I love the sky with the clouds tantalizing with the promise of rain.

Not sure about the suppository, it wasn't in my hospital instructions. Are you having a spinal or GA?

Nice pic Bill!
Way to go on learning all this Bonesmart stuff. You could teach it!
In my joint class yesterday, they now say begin Probiotics 7 days before and go for 30 after.
I already started mine.
Oh, and they said a suppository is now mandatory in the hospital. Eww.
Your day is coming, mine April 10.....
