@MajorHeidi - I would be interested in the opinion of your OS for sure Claire. Yes that is me on the road - it is in the outback of New South Wales and the road was so straight and so long. Just had to get a pick like that!
@Josephine - thanks Jo for your comments. As far as seeing someone else I will discuss that with my GP today but I feel that I am between a rock and a hard place - going public here in Oz you're really stuck with who you get generally as far as I know. I reckon you might be right about him blowing me off to someone else.

Thought folk might be interested in this information.

Our health and public hospital systems etc is managed by each state in Australia not federally. High level policies are set at the National, Federal level.

The following link provides information regarding the Queensland Health Department.

broken link removed: https://www.health.qld.gov.au/hospitalperformance/es-main.aspx?hospital=99999

Once a patient is in the state public health system, as Bill indicated, the patient is unable to request a different surgeon. It is pretty much take who you get at the time. The surgeons are contracted to the hospital/state and work for the hospital.

If you are admitted as a trauma patient, it is likely one will be seen by a private consultant surgeon who chooses to be on the trauma register for that hospital. If not, one will be seen by the Registrar and hospital OS.

I think Bill, @fulafoto you were the victim of an administrative muddle up. Same thing happened to me with my renal specialist at the public hospital.

I can imagine the anger you are feeling regards the lack of empathy from him, but as you say you are between a rock and a hard place with our public health system.

Vent with us... We get it! There is no excuse for bad manners from our public health Doctors. We understand your frustrations mate :) You are on the way to turning it around by taking back some control yourself. Hope you have a reassuring appointment with your GP.

Hugs xx

@fulafoto ......Hey Bill, OMG I wrote this whole page to you and lost it! I hurried to your thread to see todays news, I want to holler Boo Hoo and Yippee at the same time. So wonderful that you have 90 days and counting down, news that your OS is AWESOME in the OR (which is the MOST important thing), he won't be in your life forever after all!!! Don't listen to the age thing, I am (52), the weight thing (188 at 5'10"), come on at this point in our lives exercise is a thing of the past right!?! My 2nd OS said that I was young would have to likely have them replaced in my life time........not using him!! My first OS said we gotta do this, no other option! I am blessed that he has done over 2000 hips and has a wonderful personality, guess I hit the jackpot! (SORRY) The group of OS that I went to for my knee arthroscopy through an injury at work in August bragged about this OS, said that he was the best in his field and could do a hip in 35 minutes! (If necessary) They make it sound like a walk in the park, in and out, 5-7 in a day, he operates 2 days out of the month! Oh yeah, great photo of you in the road. I haven't figured out how to put a "real" photo up yet, but the frazzled/bored cat is so meeeeee! Think I will post a real me photo right before surgery, then an after surgery photo of the real me!! Please don't hold the anger, it will only make you feel worse than you already do, just look at the positive and move forward, get into the water, I can only imagine it will feel better since we are all lighter in the water, but don't dwell on it, the surgery is in motion and on the horizon, it's getting real now!!

Hey @Poppet @put2pasture and @Vetgirl - thanks for your posts.

My GP appointment went very well - my Dr is an Indian lady who has a real sense of humour and the first thing she asked was what I thought of the OS to which I replied not much. She really had a good giggle and said that he ALWAYS comes across like that at first but he is a real gentleman and is very very good at his job. She did raise her eyebrows about his weight and time factors but said he is trying to look after my best interests with the weight and he is very cautious about the times preferring to give a bad indication and not sugar coat anything so I am feeling a lot better about it all.

On the down side I am suffering major pain (8-9) in my good hip now and she has advised to ice and elevate that one as well. She is also going to write to the OS and ask if he is going to do both at once so will wait and see about that. I do have the all clear however for the removal of the skin cancer next Wednesday so that is the next thing on the plate!

Thanks again everyone - you are all so wonderful!!!! xxxoooxxx

Great validation of your OS Bill @fulafoto ....glad that she explained everything and so sorry you are having issues on the other side now. Getting both done at once would get it over and done with.....

Thanks for your support of me....I really appreciate it

Hi Bill,
Just wanted to say hope you get a surgery date soon. Maybe your GP could hurry it up a bit for you.
Maybe the surgeon was in a bad mood- who knows? But no excuse you didn't deserve to be treated like that.
Love your poems by the way!
Hang in there,
Gill

Hi Bill @fulafoto !
Glad you had a good sitdown with your GP.
Wow on the letter she will write to consider bilateral.
Did you and the OS discuss that possibility and does he have xrays/views of both sides I hope?
It sure will be interesting for you to just wait and get 'the letter'.
My initial letter says 'don't call us'; don't call the scheduler' don't blah blah blah. We will contact you.
I guess all over the world they do things this way. Good grief!
((Hugs))

Hi Bill @fulafoto - just been reading all about your OS appointment. As I read it, I said out loud 'What an ......' - politeness dictates that I do not include the expletive.
I hate it when people say 'it's just his manner' - what gives people the right to be so dismissive and rude?
The upside to this is that you are now on 'countdown to surgery' which was the desired result. If that dipstick OS had been more empathetic and friendly you would be saying he was a good chap!
I don't know too much about hips, but will just say that my old Mum had both hers done in her mid-50s. She is now 85 and whilst everything else is slowly falling apart - the hips still do everything she needs them to. My auntie had her hip redone last year at the grand old age of 89. She's hilarious and was most put out that (as she put it) 'her beautiful buttock' now had a chunk out of it. That however was her only concern and her recovery was textbook. On her 90th birthday she was up dancing while I hobbled about waiting for my knee op.
Hope you manage that pain Bill - and keep taking your beautiful photos.
ChrisX

@MajorHeidi - Hi Claire - no the OS and I didn't really discuss anything :heehee: More like him telling me. He did have a CT scan from my last appointment and that is from where he commented my right hip is not good. He ordered X-rays of both hips which I had done but I don't have the results of those - they went straight to him.
Your letter sounds like my earlier ones - don't call us -we'll call you but now I am at the stage that the next letter I get will be for my pre-op appointment (bloods/urine/PT meeting etc.) and it should have a date for surgery on it.
Interesting thing that DW was given when handing in a form for me - the receptionist gave her a list of phone numbers and highlighted the surgical scheduling one - I might just give them a call and ask if they have a date... can't hurt
@dogwheels - Thanks so much Chris and yes - that was my initial thought as well for the OS :heehee:. Dipstick - yes I like that:thumb: So glad to hear more stories of long lasting hips and your Aunty sounds like a real character :heehee:

Bill, how are you doing? I know that you are hurting and all of this doesn't help. I am so sorry you don't have a date yet. I will be not here for a while after Feb. 25 for a while. But when I come back with my new hip I hope and pray you have either got a ner joint or just about too. take care and hang in there it will come. Tashia

Hi @tashia and thanks for your message and kind wishes. I am resigned to the fact it will happen when it happens. To break the monotony of these four walls DW and I am going away for 3 nights early March for a change of scenery - I didn't think I would be looking forward to it so much but I can't wait.
I will be thinking about you and really sincerely wish you the best of luck for your op.

Oh Bill @fulafoto I so know what you mean. I loved my mini break but must say I've had a case of the blues today. I miss the blue blue water and time with my man!!!!

I'm sure a date will come as soon as you have a busy day and least expect it!!!! That's what usually happens....Murphys law!!!!!

Talk soon

Hi Bill @fulafoto....just catching up after having Grandkids for half term holiday...phew!!!
So glad your GP could help with the negatives you had with the surgeon and that it seems you might get a date in the near future....and even two for the price of one!! I do hope you enjoy your break away....sounds like you need it. Take care..Chrissie xxx

Thanks @Vetgirl - Hope your feeling better soon Sally. I actually said to my DW - what are the chances of getting the date while we are away for a few days! If I get any notification we have one of our daughters checking the mail for anything from the hospital but I doubt it will be in this short of notice (I hope!).
@Hoppy Nanny Thanks for the good wishes Chrissie. I know how tiring grandkids can be - had our 3 here today for an hour and I was totally worn out with them!
