TKR Pain 2 years after TKR

Report on grandson. He has a hernia. It's pushing on him and causing reflux and sickness. The hospital said they will try to push it back this morning but arrange surgery for a later date to repair it. He is being kept in for now. Thanks for your thoughts for him.
Wonder if I am going to get out of here today? Hope they get this pain and BP under control.

I hope your grandson improves, Molly. I understand your worrying about him. :console2:

Please don't come home until your pain is under control. At least in hospital you have help. At home you'll have to make decisions on your own.

Update on grandson. He is still in hospital. Some valve that has opened allowing fluid through as its not closing. Don't know what treatment they are giving just now but said he will need an operation at 3or 4 years old to correct it. Feel useless sitting here not really knowing what they are doing. Poor little baby. Daughter will call me later with an update and to explain better.

Molly, as Celle said earlier, try to stay on a pain medication schedule so you aren’t chasing the pain. My nurses would write when my last pain medication was so I knew when I could next have another dose. Sometimes they brought it on time, sometimes they were busy and I called for the medication. You’ll want to do the same thing at home. As long as you can stay on schedule the pain isn’t too bad. Some find it easier to set their phone alarm to remind them when it’s time for the next round of meds.

Hi all. Baby got out of hospital this afternoon but he will need follow up treatment and he is still not very well but at least we know he is OK for now.

I got discharged at 6.30pm this evening. Was only given enough meds for 6 days. The first 3 days at the dosage I was on in hospital the other 3 days at a reduced dosage. Then I need to see my own doctor and see what he will give me but hospital said just take my dihydrocodeine and paracetamol. Is that going to work? Didn't work prior to operation. That dosage is not going to allow me to keep on top of the pain.
Have come to bed. Totally exhausted. Leg burning and massively swollen. Hubby forgot to put the ice wraps in the freezer... .
Going to see if I can get some sleep as the tears aren't far away right now.

Great one - hubby just told me he has lost the ice wraps I specifically bought. He has no idea where they are. No frozen peas in house either and too late now to go buy any...:hairpulling:

It's a strange fact, but even though Paracetamol doesn't work for pre-op pain, it does work post-op. Give it a good try. You may be surprised!

Do you have ice in your freezer, and plastic bags? If so, ask hubby to make temporary ice bags. Double-bag the ice, to prevent leaks. That may tide you over until you can send him out to buy frozen veges or gel packs to freeze.
Be sure to put something like a tea towel between your skin and the ice bags.

First night at home. I slept from 10pm right through to 3.30am (it's now 3.45am). So very badly needed that sleep. The pain on waking is the worst I have felt for a long time and that's for any reason. Managed to make it to toilet then back to bed. Just taken so oral morphine. Waiting for it to kick in and reduce the pain. When I first woke up I would have easily believed both knees had been operated on such was the pain in un operated knee. Oh boy did that hurt every bit as much.
Really wasnt organised last night. By the time I got home (tired and in a lot of pain from 2hrs in the car) I just wanted to get to bed and wasn't thinking straight. I haven't got drinks beside me to take tablets nor my flask of hot water to make a cuppa. This is going to have to wait till about 8am when hubby gets up. Not got the energy to get to kitchen to see too it myself and if I did it would wake the dogs up and they would want taken out. Guess hubby wouldn't be happy being woken too take dogs out. Normally they will sleep till you get up so that means if you get up early then to them it means - oh it's morning..
Morphine kicking in a little and easing the pain off. Oh how I wish I could turn over on to my side. This lying on your back in uncomfortable. I guess I should remember today is only 4 days post op and it takes time to heal.
Going to to sleep a little more before hubby gets up. Roll on a cup of tea and tonight I will try be more organised. Hopefully will hear more news about baby. Hope they all got a good sleep.

I'm glad you got some sleep. Please don't allow yourself to be in that much pain...wake your husband if you need him-that's what he's there for.....to help you. He can always go back to sleep but you won't sleep if you're in pain. If the dogs need taking out earlier than usual, then so be it. Right now your concern needs to be taking care of yourself first and foremost.

Morning lovetocookandsew. How are you? I must go have a read at your recovery thread. Been a bit distracted.
I agree that I shouldn't have waited till I was in so much pain before taking meds. I was just so exhausted yesterday I just wanted to sleep. I must still be exhausted as I keep falling asleep typing this so will come back on later as going to try get more sleep just now. Sorry.

Sleep when you can. You've had quite the week with your surgery, BP issues and your grandson. Wish I could send you some ice packs :console2:

Try elevating your legs when you lay on your back, it’s much more comfortable that way, and they should be elevated anyway.

I'm glad to read that you're sleeping a bit. I think being home makes a difference. Hopefully you have a good system now for keeping drinks at your side.

I didn’t mind waking my husband up, I needed the help, and he didn’t mind getting up to help me. We were not sleeping in the same room, so I would call his cell phone when I needed him.
