TKR Pain 2 years after TKR

But we still got it done because we know the only way to get our lives back is to get rid of the mean knee and get a nice new knee.
I totally agree with this!!!!!! I hesitated to get my left knee done, due to basically a fear of another bad p/t experience. I put it off for too long, until I had to go out on medical leave from work because I could no longer walk/stand without severe pain. But I am so glad I made that choice to have the surgery. Today I am at 16 weeks post surgery, totally enjoying having my life back!!

I don't think my bend is improving much but I notice that I'm walking much better. I go (a little) faster and don't limp noticeably. I'm quite pleased about that.
I am worried about what the PT will say on Thursday.

Thanks Spex10. You see your physio 2 days after me so we can see how far we both have come. I feel knee is bending a little better today. Went to the supermarket and managed round pushing the trolley. I would have been fine if my unoperated knee hadnt been so sore. I limped more because of the pain in it .

My knee stiffened up this evening but it was much bendier earlier on. I definitely overdid things today though.
Hoping for another good night's sleep. You too!

What did you do to overdo things? I feel my walk round supermarket was a bit much ..on my knee and my purse.. :heehee:

I just got home from my first trip to the warehouse store. I used the electric cart and hubby put the food in his grocery cart. Even so, I am dead...lol. My knee is fine as it was stretched out on the cart the whole time, but I am beat. There is no way I could have walked with a regular cart, I have to use the electric cart the stores provide. We decided I'm not yet ready to cook my regular dinners from scratch, so bought things like a couple of the rotisserie chickens they have and some rib eye steaks I can easily grill and hubby can do potatoes and salad if I am not feeling up to it, or I can easily do them if I am, and so on. We still have some of my pre-made foods in the freezers, so between that and what we bought today I won't need to do any actual cooking this month. Don't your stores have electric carts? It's a lot easier on your knee to sit in a cart than to walk behind a regular cart.

I'd much rather walk behind a trolley. Its good exercise which I'd rather do than heel slides etc. This was my third shopping session. I also managed 40 rotations on my little pedaler thingy.
One glass of rose and another good night's sleep. Lunch out today. Its all go!

@Spex10 I'm guessing you haven't been to an American warehouse store.....lol. It takes a good hour and a half, or more, just to go through the aisles and departments. Add Saturday crowds to that, long checkout lines behind people with overflowing pallets and carts, and it's a very long trip. There's no way I could navigate through it behind a grocery cart. I wasn't able to do it before my surgery without having to get an electric cart, and there's no way I'm trying it right now. But I'm hoping to be able to do it again one day as it really is a good workout. Google "Costco" and look at images-you'll get an idea of the size of the store.

I do know that @lovetocookandsew! If I were you I'd avoid going on a Saturday though and would shop more frequently for fewer items at a time. Much better exercise if you have the time.
I enjoy food shopping, meet neighbours there and have friends among the check out ladies. All in all a pleasant exercise all round.

@lovetocookandsew Hi, we have a Costco near us, i hate it ! But we also have supermarkets now that are bigger than Costco ! A lot of supermarkets now in the UK are on 2 floors and i hate those too. It's not the size, it's the flooring they use. It always tends to be shiny polished granite or marble, really difficult to walk on even if you have 2 fully functioning legs :rofsign: We were recently in a brand new airport terminal in Turkey and the floor was like a mirror, it was deadly to walk on, (and there was a LOT of walking involved) i don't know who designs these places but you can bet they've never had a knee replacement !

I'm also in UK. Interestingly, the big supermarkets are focusing on much smaller more local units. They've noticed that not everyone likes or needs to shop in an aircraft hanger. These big guys are only motivated by money so have obviously been led by customer preference. Maybe it's a town thing. Some people like to do one massive shop at a time.
I agree about floor surfaces. Luckily our local supermarket has flooring with a sort of smooth but knobbly surface.

Well that was a first. Went to bed about 11pm. Read my book for about 30 mins then put the light out. I slept sound all night not even getting up for the toilet. First I knew was hearing hubby get up at 8.20am.
I also felt so much better this morning. Knee was bending more freely and I noticed I am walking so much better on that leg. Unfortunately I notice I am limping on other leg and have a tendency to be on tiptoe on it plus it has less bend than the operated Knee and has so much more pain than before. It maybe hasn't and is as bad as previously and I just didn't notice because the other knee was much worse.
Have had a discussion with hubby and when I see the surgeon next week I will be asking her for a date to get that knee done. Who would ever have believed I would say that prior to my operation. Don't get me wrong I will go through the same terror because of my needle phobia but just to be pain free will be great. I know I still have a long journey with my new knee but I already see the benefits. I am coming up for 6 weeks post op on Wednesday so hoping I may be able to start driving again.

That's brilliant @Mollymax! It's amazing the difference a week makes. Maybe you could get a short notice cancellation for your other knee. Less time to think about it!

@Spex10 I am off on holiday in 6 weeks so it has to be after that and I need to consider how work will take to me getting it done. I have a feeling I will be told that they cannot accommodate me being off again.

Surely it's a medical matter? Are you not entitled to 6 months off sick (with certification) plus annual leave then 6 months on half pay? You're not skiving. It's all real. Are you in a union?

So glad you had a good sleep, @Mollymax!

I had my first knee done in February, and was going to try for Sept or Oct for the second, but my husband doesn’t teach in summer, and we just decided that it would be better to accelerate the 2nd. So I did it 2 weeks ago. Would have done it even earlier, but husband had some travel commitments. My os requires a minimum of 3 months between surgeries.

I think the sooner you can do it, the better, but of course it has to fit into your own plans and commitments. To be honest, when I first came home this time, I had about 3 days where I seriously regretted doing this, but that was mostly due to my lack of sleep, and the heat. Now I am really happy with it.

But you’ll do it when you can. It is scary for sure, but the sooner it’s over with, the better.

@Spex10 our contracts say 6 months full pay 6 months half pay in a rolling 4 year period but in actual fact if they decide they cannot accept the time you are off whether it is an operation or not they can decide to terminate your employment because you are off too long in their eyes. I have to meet with my manager on 15th to let her know when I am coming back to work but I bet she tells me when she is expecting me back. I am already on a warning because I was of for 2.5 weeks in January due to my arthritis. I will see how long doctor signs me off for tomorrow.
Ideally I would like to get other knee done end October. I see surgeon on 17th August and if she puts me forward for other knee there is a 12 week waiting time so it may be November.

Blimey. Didn't realise HMRC could bend rules like that. They'd need proof that you were up to no good or generally 'at it' but you're not! Good luck with the doctor.

@Spex10 I had a member of staff signed off for 4 weeks with work related stress. I was told I had to get her back to work before the 4 weeks or she wouldn't make the 28 days before being referred to a decision maker to terminate if she told me she didn't know when she would be back. Nuff said.
Felt good on my short walk today. Knee behaved. Bent quite well. Can't say same about other knee though.
