TKR Pain 2 years after TKR

Doctor said Ulner nerve is trapped. May have been the cause of lying on my arm during operation or in bed the days after as it started 2 days after the op. Said it can take 4 to 6 weeks to clear so to go back if no improvement in 2 weeks.

Well at least you know what's happening. Hope it improves soon.

Question about scar care. I was wondering if people use anything on their scar. Now I have dressing more or less off I wondered if using Aloe Vera Gel on the scar was a good idea? If so how long should I wait before using it? Someone suggested Bio Oil but I thought maybe the Aloe is better. Any advice? Thanks.

After a good few weeks I used Bio Oil last time. Not sure it made much of a difference but it smells nice. I don't think you're supposed to put stuff on it really. It's certainly a wee bit soon now I would have thought.

I wouldn't put anything on it yet. Most of us don't and our scars turn out OK.

I seem to have gained at least 10lbs
You'd be surprised how much that swollen leg, with all that fluid weighs. I bet that's where most of your weight gain has come from. Certainly don't worry about dieting now. You needs lot of protein and good foods to aid in your healing!

Thanks folks. I won't put anything on it. Will take your advice. Tried to post a photo of swollen leg and puffy for but it wouldn't let me.
Am not happy. My work called yesterday. Usual rubbish ... How can we help you etc. Then she has just called again at 5.30pm wanting a meeting to see how I am. Em major operation, can't walk, not fit... What else do they need. My work is a nightmare.

@Mollymax What a pain. I wish everyone who has this surgery, and works, would not have to stress so much about their jobs. I see so many people with short deadlines for going back, or they get pressured by bosses who don't really care, etc. I think I'd be one of those who'd tell a boss to watch a video of the surgery and leave me alone.....lol. My tolerance for that kind of stress and pressure is nil.

Oh dear @Mollymax. I suppose your boss has to do that or be seen to have offered help. I'm so glad I'm retired (sort of) or at least don't work for NHS any more.

I have also had numb fingers since my op. Like carpal tunnel but also quite painful as well as pins and needles. I’m seeing my GP tomorrow about it. I think the answer is probably the same as yours - positioning during the surgery (I woke up with it) It’s 11 weeks since my TKR and it hasn’t improved any. Hoping it’s not more surgery!

Lovetocookandsew I would love to tell my manager that ..
Spex10 I work for Hmrc which I believe has the same kind of sickness policy as the NHS.
ChrissieG is really annoying isn't it. I hope this doesn't last as long as yours has. Hope you get some answers tomorrow.

@ChrissiG, try using the site on your browser. I found the application was a pain. I just go to: Bonesmart.org/forum

You don't need to put anything on your scar. Mother Nature has been healing wounds for ages and she know what she's doing. Once the incision is completely healed, if your skin is dry, you can use any sort of moisturiser, but it won't do anything to help the scar heal better.

"Hello boss. Yes, I'd love to meet you. I'm housebound and an invalid, but I'd welcome a visitor."
If she comes, let her see you struggling to walk, and be sure to show her your incision and emphasize the excruciating pain you've suffered."

No need to tell her that your pain is much less than you feared it would be! (Where's an image for a big, evil grin? :heehee:)

That's what we're all here for..moral support that's hard to get anywhere else :friends:

Day 17. Had a really bad night. Hardly slept. My foot is quite puffed up and my ankle ached all night which led to my whole leg aching. It wasn't pain as such if you know what I mean just this awful ache. Couldn't get comfy. My numb fingers ached too and more pins and needles than I have had. Sorry to moan. Lack of sleep makes you feel sorry for yourself doesnt it.

Oh dear. Sounds bad. Do you have to wear those horrible TED stockings? They certainly keep my ankles from swelling and there's a definite line between them and my knee. My knee bulges out over the top.

No I haven't been given any stockings to wear. I normally have a full length compression stocking on that leg due to lymphodema but no way could I wear it just now as its from foot to thigh.

Tried to post photo of the scar but can't do it so ignore that last post. Comes up an error.
Good news is I managed to get my foot to come back into the next square on the bathroom floor this morning... So glad I didn't worry about doing those heel slides

Been following your story because I don't do pain well at all either...it's encouraging to hear that it's not as bad as you thought it would be. :prayer: I need to keep hearing that, plus others saying, "I wish I hadn't waited so long.."
