TKR Pain 2 years after TKR

ChrissieG did you see the doctor about your hand? What did they say?

Sorry you had a rough time last night. This recovery is a giant roller coaster[ some stretches are easy and some are difficult. But we're stuck on the ride for a good time yet, so can only take it as it comes. Good job on getting your knee a little further along on those tiles!

@Rhodyrhody I can't believe the pain hasn't been as bad as I expected. I keep waiting for it to kick in. I have more aches than pain. I guess I am maybe lucky for the time being. You may be the same. I guess we don't know the outcome till it happens.
Lovetocookandsew thanks. Hopefully tonight is better. Yes it's a long ride and I just need to bear with it. Hope you are ok.

I'm okay. Everyone went to the mountains to do some fishing today, so I have the house to myself. I went to the kitchen to make myself a mocha (sugar free and only 100 calories for the mug!) and noticed my knee is quite stiff this morning. Looking at it, it is a bit swollen, plus it's pretty shiny on the inside, which is how my knee looks when it swells, so I see a long day of icing in my future. How's your knee doing, other then the aching you've already mentioned?

Lovetocookandsew I am ok. Had some meds this morning but no reason to take any since. Just a dull ache so can't complain. I think all pain of any kind is worse in the middle of the night. I don't like to get up apart from the toilet or I will disturb the dogs. How sad am I but I doubt hubby would be pleased if dogs decide at 3am they want out a walk...
Sorry to hear your knee is swollen. Hope that icing it will help. How is the pain?
I am icing just now in the hope I can get the swelling down a bit.

The pain is more an ache, with a few zingers occasionally running through. I know people love their dogs and am glad they have them if they want them:puppysmooze:, but there are times I'm more glad than usual that I don't do dogs.....lol. I can't imagine coping with dogs that have to be walked:doggie:, fed and tiptoed around, or avoid getting bumped by and/or jumped on by them after a TKR:dogsniff:. It's hard enough to avoid a toddler for a few hours, I can't imagine coping with dogs every day.:oyvey:

Until we sadly recently lost our 13 yo golden retriever...we'd had a golden in the house, every day, for more than 23 years. I've told my wife it's likely I'll be quite needy post-op and...having a Golden around...will probably be best for both of us....

@Rhodyrhody I'm so sorry you lost your dog. I know how much people love their animals, and that's wonderful. We're all different and many people can't imagine their lives without their pets. And there are those of us who love not having pets. Each one of us has a special place in the world, with or without pets. I hope you find the perfect golden and it brings you comfort and joy as you recover, and after.

@Rhodyrhody I am sorry you lost your dog. I know how you feel. We had 3 dogs until last year when we lost our smallest. He was a Toy Yorkshire Terrier and had a tumour in his chest. He was only 8 years old. I was broken hearted. We still have our other Yorkie and our Lhasa Apso. They are a tie but I love them to bits.
Lovetocookandsew until 10 years ago when we got our dogs I couldn't imagine having dogs around and having to walk and feed them etc. It is difficult just now keeping them from jumping up on me and not being able to walk them with hubby. I will look forward to being able to walk them again.

:boohoo:OK so it's 3am and I can't sleep. I think I fell asleep about 1am and I know I was in a nice sleep when the need for the toilet woke me about 2.15. I hoped I would fall asleep on my return but my whole leg aches a bit with sort of cramp in my thigh. I am frightened to stretch/move my leg incase of full blown cramp. Just really uncomfortable. Also my stupid numb fingers hurt.
I just want a night's sleep please. Getting a bit upset tonight. I slept so well my first week so this is frustrating ..:boohoo::boohoo:

That really bites. This roller coaster can really be a pain some days. I hope things settle down and let you sleep! Maybe you need to take pain meds regularly for a while still; aching and cramping is pain after all.

I took dihydrocodeine at 10pm as its slow release only take morning and night and I took 2 paracetamol at midnight so can't take anything else for a few hours. I am a poor sleeper at the best of times and thought I could cope with this but I think the inactivity during the day makes the nights drag.

I am actually sleeping fairly well at night despite not a lot of activity in the daytime. But, I rarely sleep in the daytime, even now after the surgery, and sleep only at night so it's my usual routine, except for being less active. But sleep patterns being off are usual with this surgery, so you're in the normal area while I'm, as usual, abnormal.:) The good news is it does get better, but I know that's poor comfort now.

It's just frustrating. I never sleep during the day. Hubby is good at that and it annoys me... Lol. I slept again roughly 4.30am to 6.30am but have been awake since then. Its now 7.30. So I guess I managed 3hrs sleep last night. I have extremely restless legs which isn't helping.
Sorry to moan folks.

Don't apologize!! This is where we can moan, cry, vent and complain without judgement. No one can understand what it's like unless they have experienced it. It will get better with time. I just keep going and reading others recovery stories to help me keep a positive outlook. But there are days where I feel like I'm never going to feel normal again. :good-bad: Approaching 10 weeks for me so i just keep plugging along. Its all we can do !

Keep your chin up. We can only get better from here!! :console2:

I don't mean to moan though because really this is nothing near as awful as I thought it was going to be. Yes I ache a little bit I am not in serious pain .. Well not up till now anyway. My thigh/groin area tends to be the worst part with its aches.
A bit bad tempered and I suppose moody today. Hubby is having to go away today He will take the dogs with him and I will be on my own until my daughter and grandchildren arrive tomorrow. We have been a bit short with each other the last few days. He still expects me to be able to do more and actually thought on leaving the dogs with me :bignono:. When I tell him I haven't slept he just says neither did he. I think it will be seperate bedrooms until I am sleeping again as I could just see arguments during the night the way things are just now.
Going to make a cup of tea. He can get his own..

My OH and the cat are sleeping in another bedroom. OH is glad of it but the cat? Not so much. I meet a very huffy creature as I emerge from my room for night time bathroom visits.
I can't imagine how your husband thought you could somehow look after dogs right now!
You might enjoy some time on your own. It makes you try more because you have to. I'm not in great pain either but still get surges of twinge related to the staple removal but that's lessening thank goodness.

Might be a peaceful night before family arrive but its a bit scary. Lol to the cat.

Has anyone suffered from groin pain after their operation? This started yesterday and worries me due to my lymphodema as that is where the pain usually starts. Kind of hoping it's just the muscles etc healing and nothing to worry about. I have had problems sitting on that thigh from day one but it has been getting better.
