TKR Pain 2 years after TKR

Even in hospital I was so pleased to get a shower so I could wash my hair. I used to have really thick hair but as I got older it got very thin. Unwashed it looks awful so it was fab to get it washed.

Grandson is doing much better thanks everyone.

Yay for your grandson's health!
I also have thin, fine hair that looks clean the day I wash it and oily the next day. I knew I wouldn't be washing as often for a while so got a perm before the surgery. That way it still looks clean for days after I wash it.

My hair is white if left uncoloured so I made sure I got it done before the operation as not sure when I will be able to get next but oh boy the white roots are already showing.

I wasn’t allowed to shower for 2 weeks and then again after my infection surgery for 4 weeks. Luckily I have a lower bathroom vanity and could wash my hair under the spigot. I even did this inthe rehab hospital.

I hope your nausea is better, Molly.

If i hadnt been able to shower I would have been washing my hair at the sink one way or another....
Boredom starting to set in. Didn't sleep well last night but not because of pain. Getting really restless. I am so unused to all this inactivity. I know I can't rush things and anyway my legs are really shaky even walking round the house with my sticks so I know I am not ready to do more.

Boredom's not struck me quite yet. Its still a novelty being 'allowed' to sit around. However, I do enjoy visitors from the outside world!
Every little job seems to take twice as long when using a stick. I come and go to the kitchen carrying only one thing at a time as that's all I can manage - good exercise though. I'll wave to you from across the Forth!

Yep carrying one thing at a time is all I can manage too. Not had visitors yet but daughter and family are coming at the weekend.

Day 13 (if you count operation day). I was hoping this shaky weak feeling would be wearing off but it's not. It's a horrible feeling. Thank goodness for my walking sticks or I couldn't go anywhere. I suppose it's normal but being an impatient person I didn't expect the shakes and weakness. Oh well more rest I guess.

Are you still taking the big drugs? The reason I refused oxycontin/oxycodone/dihyrocodeine etc is that they made me feel so agitated, shaky and anxious and hard to concentrate. I'm glad I stuck with that resolution. I hated those feelings.

I have dihydrocodeine and paracetamol. These were what I was taking for my arthritis prior to the op so have been on them for several years and had no side effects from them. Some days I didn't even feel they were killing the pain then.

Are you able to watch tv at all? I had planned on reading and loaded my Kindle with my favorite authors, but it was months before I could concentrate to read. I did rewatch loads of Law and Order though because it didn’t matter if I fell asleep in the middle or not.

I am on my third book. Didn't read much in hospital as couldn't concentrate but have been OK since home. Got out my box sets of Greys Anatomy so re watching them.

I binge watched all of "Home Improvement" while in the hospital. Now at home, besides my Giants, I'm watching the WSOP Main Event and also binge watching "The Nanny". I am really sick of TV.....lol.

'Home improvement' - so funny. I loved these programmes. I'm watching so many back editions of soaps. Love them though!

I never got into soap operas, but I do enjoy watching sitcoms when recovering. We all need to laugh a lot during our recoveries, so sitcoms fit my bill perfectly.

I am trying not to switch tv on during the day until the evening news. Then watch whatever is on for a couple hours then go watch my dvd's.

Gosh. Well done. What restraint. I do find myself drifting off to sleep at odd times of the day and just go with it. Lovely naps!

I listened to to books. The first six weeks or so after my first knee, I “read” 8-10 books. And crocheted. I made a sweater. Am working on another sweater for this time and looking for some books to read....i’ve Developed a fondness for crime. Audiobooks are great because you can do something else while listening.

During chemo, 7 years ago, I remember binge watching Law and Order, NCIS and Gilmore Girls. I couldn’t even think of reading. I crocheted hats. So many hats.

The one thing I can’t stand is news. If I see news, I have to watch animal videos on you tube as an antidote.

I think sometimes it's the drugs, sometimes you're not eating and drinking enough, and sometimes it's just the recovery--or a combination.
I know I ran out of steam very quickly for the first month or so.
